- mentor972, on 08/07/2008, -13/+60It's too much of a pain in the ass to do it every F-ING time. Gonna leave Digg after 3 years.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go type in a captcha. - inactive, on 08/08/2008, -5/+47ENFORCE. ENFORCE. USE SPELL CHECK FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!
- basye, on 08/07/2008, -10/+44Yes, it's a major pain in the ass but at the same time it's inevitable (fark you, spammers!).
Also, this digg's comment rating system seems to have a bug--anyone else notice this? Comments which should be +1 are all registering as '0' (without being dugg down). It's happened to every comment I've read this morning. - gcnaddict, on 08/08/2008, -4/+25They should fix this spam problem instead:
http://digg.com/tech_news/***** ...
Yes, I know it's a shameless plug, but someone needs to do something when the top 20 diggers start posting the exact same stories at the exact same time.
I'm sure none of us joined digg to see suggestions from a group of people who all spam the exact same stories. This, to me, seems like a huge priority. - david76, on 08/08/2008, -2/+22Wouldn't it be logical for a comment to start out with 0 diggs? I mean, by setting it to +1 it's like patting yourself on the back.
"Good comment, Dave." - david76
"Thanks David." - smoger, on 08/08/2008, -0/+14i dont see why your own vote shouldn't count. if you were running for office you'd be able to vote for yourself as well
- badwithcomputer, on 08/07/2008, -7/+19wait a minute...captcha is gone for me right now. i'm making this comment without a captcha. oh, happy day!
- slantyeyed, on 08/08/2008, -1/+12I love how he spells ENFORCE as INFORCE.
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -1/+11Exactly. I've already been spending more time on reddit. It is too much of a pain in the ass, and it's just ***** obnoxious after having gone so long without having to do it. It's like someone who has been serving you beer at a bar for twenty years suddenly making you show ID every time they bring you one. Big mistake.
- justjeninsf, on 08/07/2008, -4/+13hey basye and others - there is a bug that we're working on fixing right now. we're hoping to get it fixed and pushed today. thanks.
- kplo, on 04/01/2009, -2/+10yeah, i was wondering about that
- Dobby156, on 08/08/2008, -0/+8i dont see no captcha
- MtheoryX, on 08/08/2008, -1/+9@untzboy:
Why the hell would writing it in C++ make it any easier to go back and fix something than any other language?
PROTIP: Maintainability is not a direct function of the particular language itself; it's a function of how well the programmers wrote the application. - CosmicJustice, on 08/08/2008, -1/+8Especially if you claim to be:
"An Internet Marketing Consultant who specializes in Social Media, Viral and Search Engine Marketing blah, blah, blah" - inactive, on 08/07/2008, -2/+9Well i dugg you both to fix the flaw.
- wetdirtmud, on 08/08/2008, -0/+7Excellent. I searched through the comments to make sure /someone/ noticed that. It was making my eyes bleed from the front page.
- beatoven, on 08/08/2008, -1/+7Digg, can''t you use a nicer alternative to captcha? Just use images that e.g. say "29 + 3" and ask us to type the sum. Those captcha you're using, with numbers and letters in different fonts suck!
- DteK, on 08/08/2008, -0/+6what captcha?
- jeremyduffy, on 08/08/2008, -1/+7As far as I know, the captchas were a mistake. Only new people have to deal with them. For example, as I post this, no captcha.
- MtheoryX, on 08/08/2008, -1/+7Way back when I first joined Digg, there were no captchas.
Then, a little later, they started a new policy that new members would see captcha's and old members wouldn't. So I was grandfathered in, so to speak.
I'm assuming it was the same for mentor972. - bubbles19518, on 08/08/2008, -0/+5I love when people say what I want to say before I say it. Then I all I have to do is digg up their comment. Both of you even used correct spelling. Bravo sirs.
- rodrigo74, on 08/08/2008, -0/+5One thing that I like now (well, I just noticed now) is that I can "undo" a digg up/down by clicking the other way around. I've dugg people down accidentally quite a few times..
- SuperSunny, on 08/08/2008, -0/+5My god Captcha is annoying
- Llanowar, on 08/08/2008, -1/+6When I first joined Digg the captcha was in place too. After a few months it got removed.
So, how come if you're on this site for 3 years you haven't noticed the captcha before? - Burento, on 08/08/2008, -2/+7Thats cause you must be a filthy spammer.. :)
- borez, on 08/08/2008, -0/+5What captcha?
- Enigma776, on 08/08/2008, -0/+4These things are always annoying
- o0adam0o, on 08/08/2008, -0/+4I feel like people digg/burry comments depending on what the digg count is ( + or - )...how about hiding the amount of diggs untill you digg or burry the comment....id say that be a nice experiment.
- ieee, on 08/08/2008, -0/+4-----------------------
"and if they had wanted to inforce a captcha on the entire site then they could have done so"
---------------
and I could have gone back to one of their competitors.
Unlike a web board the structure doesn't lend itself to getting to know people well so it is easy to pick up and leave. One anonymous person giving you a comment or a score is about the same experience on any other similar site. - JigoroKano, on 08/08/2008, -0/+4I don't think I've ever sent a shout and I've gotten captchas.
- sewalsh, on 08/07/2008, -8/+12test
- lofi4life, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3actually, for the first time I didn't have a captcha to leave that or this comment! strange.
- markdr123, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3I'm not getting asked to do any captchas when writing comments...
- antdude, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3And disable CAPS. :)
- ericthegreat, on 08/08/2008, -1/+4knowledge of proper engrish is not key to good posting make
- djsim, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3*****!
- acidmutant, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3just noticed it....
- Claude1971, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3then Skynet would be able to figure it out and the Terminators would come enmass!
- Niz1, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3btw this was 19 hours ago there is no captcha for me atm.
- Draakan, on 08/08/2008, -1/+4I would have no problem with CAPTCHA if it would work more then half the time. I can't use newegg at work anymore because no matter what it says I input the wrong thing. If this starts happening here, then yes, I would abandon the site without a second thought.
- santaliqueur, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3I don't.
- andyd273, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2Or just have three submit buttons that all say save, with text that tells you which one to click.
"Click the middle one to submit" etc. - shadowspawn, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2Thing is, it will reduce the amount of all comments. Only those who are passionate will post comments. Those of us who just have an offhand witty reply won't even bother.
They should stop the capcha after x capcha comments per user per time period. Oh, and fix the reply to comment bug. - andyd273, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2The Captcha wouldn't be as bad if it wasn't case sensitive... depending on the font, it's sometimes hard to tell if a letter is upper or lower case, and the captcha refresh seems to be buggy if you type it in wrong.
- ChayesFSS, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2My Doctor says he can get rid of it for you, please be sending $10,000 hundreds to...
- sailadayaway, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2Yea, we all had to type captchas back when we first started commenting, once digg realizes you're a human they stop doing it, I think it just had something to do with the comment problem yesterday...
- KSUdesigner, on 08/08/2008, -2/+4Because they weren't using the captcha system 3 years ago. I've been on digg for 3 years also and up until yesterday I had never even seen a captcha on digg.
- Whitey07, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2I saw it last night, I didn't really mind..
- Yodzilla, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2what happened here?
