- unpure, on 04/21/2008, -7/+27One step closer to world domination...
- mytibt, on 04/21/2008, -11/+26Google should buy Microsoft and give it to Yahoo
- AceyS, on 04/21/2008, -2/+10I would disagree. They do have a product. Perhaps you have heard of it. www.google.com. Also, google initially began with just one service: online search. A service is essentially a product.
- AmazingAndrex, on 04/22/2008, -0/+8http://code.google.com/android
- CaviMike, on 04/21/2008, -4/+11"the search giant whose very name has been transformed into a verb"
Xerox = facsimile
Polaroid = instant photo
Kleenex = tissue
Matchbox Car = small model car
The list goes on but Google is the only one that doesn't actually have a product. That's saying something.
(yes I know verb ≠ noun but that's because Google doesn't have a product) - tformed, on 04/21/2008, -1/+8Google's product is the search engine.
- Daniel591992, on 04/21/2008, -2/+7Merry Christmas!
- luchid, on 04/21/2008, -0/+5Now kill it with fire!
- Ranvier, on 04/21/2008, -2/+6I would.
- Daniel591992, on 04/22/2008, -0/+4ARRRR!!!
- Dmanaway, on 04/21/2008, -1/+4Pun very much intended, I suspect
- ferrija1, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3It's the second most popular site in the world, what do you expect?
- macewan, on 04/21/2008, -4/+7They should purchase Digg, Yahoo, Twitter & WordPress.
- supermanred, on 04/22/2008, -0/+3George Bush will become self aware and take complete control over the internets before Google does, in 2009.
- mirunit, on 04/22/2008, -1/+3With only one source of revenue?
- inactive, on 04/22/2008, -1/+3I was going to say, MS actually has cash, Google is just valued at a high amount.
There is a difference you know. - totorototoro, on 04/22/2008, -0/+2I read the ***** article. Apple was 7th in brand power. Google was first this year. Google was first last year. Microsoft was first the year before that. IBM, another tech company, was ranked ahead of Apple. Why is Apple mentioned in the headline?
- pw378, on 04/22/2008, -0/+2Wow, did Ballmer send out an order to all the 'softies to start trashing and digging down the Goog?
- threemagic, on 04/21/2008, -1/+3I googled your comment and it came back with "jealous *****"..
almost a google whack (you should google that if you don't know what that is) - YourDoom123, on 04/22/2008, -0/+2never heard of gmail have you...
- totorototoro, on 04/22/2008, -0/+2Yeah, and IBM was ranked ahead of Apple. Did you read the article?
- pw378, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1$16 billion in cash is 'not so much'? Google has... well... googles of cash. Read their SEC filings dude.
- ligyron, on 04/21/2008, -3/+4Should've rickrolled
- Atomic1fire, on 04/22/2008, -3/+4the only reason people know about apple is the ipod
- schoate09, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1Microsoft brings in $20 billion in reveue each year. Revenue is mone above the operating income, IE, that's how much they store each year. $16 is nothing, that won't buy much, some people have more than that.
- inactive, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1You're serious? ***** hell that's pretty sad.
- skunkman62, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1big returns, bitch. and what stocks do you have?
- jcannonb, on 04/22/2008, -1/+2LOL
- schoate09, on 04/22/2008, -1/+2Very true, Microsoft has large stashes of excess revenue accumulated from many years, Google, not so much.
- paranoid123, on 04/21/2008, -1/+2Because the article is clearly comparing technology-related brands. Before you comment on anything, at least read the entire crap and not just the tile and a picture.
- skunkman62, on 04/22/2008, -1/+2i do. i own google and apple stocks
- Dmanaway, on 04/21/2008, -2/+3 I less than three google
- locojones, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1Wow, you're a financial genius buying stocks that pay no dividends.
- pw378, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1so, your suggesting then that Microsoft / Yahoo merger would create a webmail monopoly? Good point. ***** Microsoft, can't wait until they are off this list entirely.
- skunkman62, on 04/22/2008, -1/+1for someone that calls google "the google" i doubt it.
- pw378, on 04/22/2008, -1/+1Really? I wouldn't be caught DEAD with a Microsoft shirt on, but Google.. hells yeah, the chicks would digg it.. :)
- inactive, on 04/21/2008, -2/+2Well, you can use "Microsoft" as a verb too. Just make sure you don't use it when kids or ladies are around. You don't want to sound like a yahoo, you know (no pun intended)...
- Lazydriver, on 04/21/2008, -1/+1Totally.
- TomTruelle, on 04/21/2008, -2/+2for ***** and giggles.
- inactive, on 04/22/2008, -1/+1Doesn't Google have a giant machine that plays global thermo nuclear war all day called Joshua?
- bbliss17, on 04/21/2008, -3/+3congratz to google. Awesome!
- globito, on 04/21/2008, -1/+1Apple was 16th last year, now it's 7th. That's impressive.
- mindracer, on 04/22/2008, -2/+2thanks for the laugh :)
- sonicEd, on 04/21/2008, -3/+3If only they could... M$ nets more money than Google grosses.
- wilfulwilly, on 04/22/2008, -1/+0you could hardly say it's mainstream yet though, Hotmail & Yahoo remain the dominant web-based email clients.
- CarStan, on 04/21/2008, -4/+3That your name brand is used as a verb is sure sign that you've made it to number one.
Maybe the other 2 need this, too. - locojones, on 04/22/2008, -2/+1When your name becomes a colloquial verb you haven't achieved brand dominance, you've achieved brand dilution and are on the verge of losing your trademark protection in the event someone wishes to challenge it. Ask Xerox how many millions they had to spend so that their name didn't become synonymous with "copy." Ask Polaroid how many millions they had to spend so that their brand didn't become synonymous with "picture." As Velcro how many millions they had to spend so that their brand didn't become associated with "hook & fastener." And look at how much influence Coke and Pepsi are pulling over restaurants that serve whatever "soda" they have on hand regardless of whether someone asks for Coke or Pepsi.
Google doesn't want their name to become a generic term for "to seach." Because then their entire company falls into jeopardy. - supermanred, on 04/22/2008, -2/+1RTFA
