- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4When you upload the video, you can pick whether or not to charge for it.. It's in the FAQ's:

# Can I charge for playback of my video?
Yes. Or you can allow users to play your video for free. This is totally up to you and your video distribution goals. As the content owner, you decide whether you'd like to give away your video for free or charge a price that you set for it. If you do charge a price, Google will take a small revenue share to cover some of our costs. If our costs to play your video on Google are extraordinary, we may charge users a fee (if you've specified zero as the price for your video) or take a larger revenue share of the price (if you've set a price greater than zero for your video) to cover some of these costs. For example, if you upload a high definition file that's 500 MB and it becomes extremely popular, we might charge users a fee instead of giving it to them for free or ask you for a higher percentage of the revenue from the price of the video. Please be assured, however, that we'll let you know before we add a price or charge a higher revenue share for your video. - the_snitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ever thought that that was at the end of the video that was encoded and uploaded to video.google.com? Just being Mr. Obvious here...
- puneypunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I remember when video.google.com was launched they said _you_ would be able to charge for your videos http://dans.numbersix.be/googlevideoprices.png you set the price and whatever, thats why some have and others dont.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ummm....if you upload a video to Google, you have the option of setting a price. Try it. This is how it's ALWAYS been.
- boldfacelies, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2this one works fine... ITS PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6356367889024058781 - boldfacelies, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2just the guy who made the video. not proof of anything. google makes bank with ads, they wont charge.
no digg - dstart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The uploader can choose to charge for their videos. Nuff said.
Reported as lame. - turbofart, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Everybody who uploads videos to google video has an option that he can turn on that indicates if the video is free-of-charge or is charged. It has been like that since the begining.
Don't make a fuss about it as you've finally stumbled upon a not-free one.
-- no digg, flame. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1no digg
has been part of google video since it's inception.
not some evil scheme by google.
I'm voting lame. - ViperDaimao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, I'm not going to digg this unless the title can be changed to something more accurate and less hysterical.
- casabona, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I wouldn't put it past MS...I mean google."
coffee33- that's clever. Comparing Google to Microsoft. Very clever. How you accidentally said 'MS' when you meant google. Yes, this has never been done before. And google and Microsoft are both 'evil' companies. I mean, they want to make money. and money is evil.
Good Job Coffee33, you have brought something to the table that no one would have even thought without you. Thank God you are here to shed some insight on this strange and dark matter. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Google does not sell videos.
It allows people who submit videos to have an option to sell videos,
Similar to Itunes - idris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dumb. Google already said people will be able to charge for views of their videos.
- dawks-, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1poster is a tool.. take the advertisments off your ***** page and stop posting.
for everyone, like badmammajamma says, research before you post. - tgraham, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not fake. I saw the same thing on a completely different video linked from digg earlier today.
- puneypunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nah it's cool, come spam me!
- tgraham, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0See : http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-295259028791778590
- tyler.kessler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I upload videos all the time and you have the optoin to charge people to view them. So no Google is not going to start charging since they have always gave that optoin.
- OneArmedBoxer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks for letting me know about this! That google can let uploaders make people pay for videos. But no digg because of the fact that this has been going on since the beginning.
- TigerX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm digging this just to attract attention to the comments... This has ALWAYS been Google's plan. You have been able to set a price for your video since the get-go.
- JudgeDredd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0puneypunk, that explains it. Must be a glitch at Google. BTW, your Gmail address is on the screenshot if you care.
- HiddenS3crets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They better not
- Judman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you have to watch to the end to see it.
- 1337codemonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It shows up on alot of vids now.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-219562036854500200&q=tank
Just a random one :) - OandA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yep i see it on a ton of vids too. Face it. google is here to make money just like every other company. and bandwitdh ain't cheap at the rate they're burning it at.
- SupaDawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0+digg. there are quite a few like this. Chances are it's the charge system in place for the original provider just bugging out, but pretty interesting nonetheless.
and that IS NOT encoded in the video, it doesnt take much to notice that it's placed there by the google flash engine, not actually in the video. - ttntyler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This story is lame
- dstanchfield, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Did I photoshop this???? http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6615118678649423400
- dstanchfield, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Okay here is another I just found: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=423412654049302774
- puneypunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's not on encoded into the video, it's part of the flash. Piss around in video.google.com, some do and some don't
- dstanchfield, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Some have it, others don't.... try doing a search for a video, things are broken it appears
- nickboyce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's definitely not part of the video. Resize it and the text will flow differently (ie it is a separate element).
- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Doesn't work for me. I tried all the videos posted in this thread, none of them give the charge thing at the end.
- clevershark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I clearly see it too. It's not in the movie, it's in the Flash "wrapper".
One has to wonder why Google would leave this in if they weren't planning to start charging for the videos, and soon-ish. - lukychmz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0who would pay to see these videos. they are mostly crap
- clevershark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google is a company with shareholders. Let's stop the circlejerk about how Google can do no wrong. Their strength right now might be in selling advertising, but they have to have other sources of revenue as well and they'll do whatever they need to do in order to achieve this.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i will say it is seperate from the video... if you download the videos.. it isnt there.
But still say google wont charge..Unless the clip rights holder wants to charge. and who the hell would buy the 40 sec clip of what old people do for fun? - mikecpeck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm getting that too. Seems like something is coming.
- FearNLoathing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0DUGG. I am getting this also at the end of every video, although I am able to view the full movie. It says "Buy this video to view the full xx:xx" with the length of the video. Again, I am still able to view the full movies, but I just get that message at the end. Mac OS X/Firefox
- dbcoder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Dude, did you ever consider that your computer might be infected with spyware?" -- Sjors
I'm running linux and have the same "problem". As far as I can tell, I don't care. - orange_cs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google plans internet Video Store
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/10724674/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ tgraham: LOL, I didn't even know the French had an Airforce. What the hell do they use it for?
- luke--, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think this is just a glitch. The full 51 seconds ARE viewable in the truck crash video. I think this system will be used for videos that people DECIDE to make for-pay. For-pay videos have been an option for a long time on google.
- pyrolupus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks to me to be a way for the author to get people to view his "click here to get a free iPod" ad. That makes this both lame AND spam.
- Dickard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wish they would let me pay for the end of that kickin video of the dudes driving in the woods. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!!!
Does the fat redneck get his rig a-going?
Does video dude "get out of the truck" as instructed?
Do they find Bigfoot's lair?
SOMEBODY WHO HAS SEEN THE END PLEASE TELL ME WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!! - tafkase7en, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That is one horrible photoshop job man, you are lame.
- brianjking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When you upload the video, you can pick whether or not to charge for it.. It's in the FAQ's:
https://upload.video.google.com/video_faq.html#overview7
@Brandon20. . .
You are very much correct. I've always known this and believed it to be a highly enticing process. Especially with Time Warner & their on-demand driven services. The media is now about personalization and on-demand viewing of all programming. To have Google offer this sort of a service either free or with a fee is huge, and was always the plan. - oddball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0+ LAME
- edwardh2o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What a spammer!
"Oh look at this terrible, terrible news! Look at my page everyone! Oh, and y'all can go right ahead and click on my fr33 ip0d spam too." - Iriel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The idea that people can put something into their videos that requires purchase shouldn't seem like anything new to anybody. Try opening some random random/ominously named pr0n video in quicktime and see what happens. Or look at using DRM on content. Even without the ability to charge for videos through Google (chosen by the content provider), I assumed it was something like that without even reading the comments for greater clarification.
Hasn't anybody realized that Google isn't a pure saint and they're not satan either (please stop speaking like you're bi-polar: and to those of you that I'm talking about, you know who you are.). They don't sell as much as they make it easier for others to sell through their marketplace
You don't even have to research it as much as just use common sense. -
