- metapop, on 11/21/2008, -1/+58wiki technology is the future, and i'm glad to see google embrace it. the internet should be user driven and user governed... it's probably the main reason i like digg.
- sandiegodude, on 11/21/2008, -4/+38Oh thank god. I can finally bury results for stupid Experts Exchange and not see them every time I search for something technical related. I hate thinking I've found an answer only to find out the solution requires a subscription to view.
Oh yea, and for those rare times when I still do the old-school MP3 search on Google, I can finally bury those damn fake "index of" pages which re-route you to internet radio sites.
This personalized dig(g) feature on Google is going to be great! - Claw787, on 11/21/2008, -1/+18How to use it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8Pl1H0dIXE
To use it, just sign in to Google.
When you do a search, you'll see those icons next to results.
This is an awesome feature. There are many spam links I don't wanna see in my search. Now I can just bury them. - darlingt, on 11/21/2008, -0/+16Now, instead of Internet memes being on forums like 4chan and sites like Digg, they'll be spread all across Google. Dear [insert deity here], the humanity!
- Enchorito, on 11/21/2008, -0/+13Oh God, the last thing we need is pedobear in search results comments.
- ciordia9, on 11/21/2008, -0/+12Results are personal, they do not aggregate.
- TSK05, on 11/21/2008, -0/+12You can always just scroll down right? At the very bottom, the results are printed...?
- valis, on 11/21/2008, -1/+10This _could_ lead to a sort of Bizzaro Orwellian world where public consensus dictates what is, and what is not, reality.
Actually - it's already a lot like that so ... never mind. - AnotherEdd, on 11/21/2008, -0/+9diggoogle? how about giggle
- n0ia, on 11/21/2008, -1/+9Or when you search for anti spyware and it links to some other junk program
- CaptCarrot, on 11/21/2008, -1/+9Or when you have a page where the owner has embedded useless and untrue "Britney Spears Topless" keywords.
- specialK16, on 11/21/2008, -0/+8Why in the world were you....
Aghhh, nevermind. - snoopydee, on 11/21/2008, -1/+7Maybe bury price comparison sites when you search for stuff to buy - if they stayed buried for similar searches I could see a use for it.
- diskoh, on 11/21/2008, -0/+6So you're the guy putting jazz singers in my porn results.
- Enchorito, on 11/21/2008, -0/+6There are plenty of times when you're searching for something, and some ad-driven vapor site is at the top because they exploited search words and tags on their web site. Being able to remove that BS is a gift from Google.
Also, there are times when words have multiple meanings. I once tried to do an image search on jazz vocalists who "scat". The results gave me nightmares for days. (Seriously, NSFW) I would have paid money to bury that *****. (yes, pun intended) - strictnein, on 11/21/2008, -1/+7For Experts Exchange: You know you can just scroll down to the bottom to see the answer, right?
- jakatak, on 11/21/2008, -4/+10How do you stop your competition from burying you. If I see my competition higher than me then I am going to bury him. An honest search or not, he is getting dugg down. How do you stop that from happening????
- Tanktunker, on 11/21/2008, -0/+5RTFA, it affects only your account.
- NathanielJ, on 11/21/2008, -0/+5From the article:
"Comments are public, so you can share them with the community and see what others thought about the same results." - Petrarch1603, on 11/21/2008, -1/+6Expert Sex Change hahaha
- Khraiven, on 11/21/2008, -1/+6You're naive if you think all the stupid sh*t people post is because of their age. Stupid people are stupid, regardless of their age. You don't outgrow stupid.
- PFCalcio, on 11/21/2008, -6/+11Why on earth would you want to bury something in a search page tho? I don't think I get it. If you are doing the same search then you should bookmark it; if you are doing a different one then surely your parameters change.
- Cglass, on 11/21/2008, -0/+5not sure, did you want to taste them or what?
- BenRT, on 11/21/2008, -1/+5Ten years from now: living in my Google AdSense-supported home, paying half the rent for contextual ads on the kitchen counter.
- BevansDesign, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4So, am I the only one not seeing this? I'm logged in on Google, I did a search. Nothing. I've only got the useless "preview" function.
- korbink, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4That has always worked for me from day one, I thought it was well known.
- RoboDonut, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4I don't think that's true. On average, people are incredibly stupid. User-driven content works iff your site has a clear subject and a majority of your userbase is knowledgeable about this topic. This is why "Old Digg" > "New Digg"
If they do drag user voting into their ranking algorithm, I really hope that they weight the votes by age. There are far too many 12-year-old kids who waste all their time on YouTube, Ebaum's World, et al., and I really, REALLY don't want an avalanche of stupid videos when I'm looking for serious information. - sebby2022, on 11/21/2008, -1/+4Dear Lord, the huge manatee!
- manogamez, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3I wonder how many times people have told you this.
ExpertSexChange.com actually DOES show you the solutions even if you arn't subscribed. Just scroll down. - CaptCarrot, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3The only concern I have about this is that "None of us is as stupid as all of us." So instead of getting results based on queries and non-intelligent system responses, we'll get responses that people think we need to see instead.
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3actually studies show it's the opposite. like an ant colony, the individual ant may be incredibly stupid, but the colony as a whole is very intelligent in the way they operate. like the old study with the jar of gumballs where people had to guess how many were in the jar, and while nobody got it right, the median of the guesses turned out to be near (if not precisely) exact.
you may argue that this is false, and in some areas it is, for example just because more people use IE than Firefox doesn't make it a better browser. and there was a holocaust... and people did vote for bush twice... but... the... but the science uhh... says that uhh.... the majority... damn it. - oxymoron69, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3www.mall-shoes.com scam ripoff counterfeit pedophile
www.mall-shoes.com fraud phishing identity theft
www.mall-shoes.com spammer credit card fraud
www.mall-shoes.com rapist steal cloned credit cards
www.mall-shoes.com telemarketing fake shoes - damnitdaniel, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3reddit?
- RudeTurnip, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3I always wondered why that site never had articles about the transgendered community...it makes sense now!
- jambla, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3I haven't seen it either. Im logged in but its the same old search for me.
- sandiegodude, on 11/21/2008, -1/+3LOL, I guess I'm just too impatient when I search! Thanks guys.
... yep, feeling pretty stupid right about now. hahah! - usedupfag, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2What's worse is when Yahoo Answers comes up as a top result when you're searching how to fix a driver error or a spyware related problem, only to find the reply to a question is "You have to format!!!11 sux 2bu" I ***** hate that.
- nickycakes, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2sounds a lot more like reddit
- BevansDesign, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2Exactly. If it helps weed out the exploiters, that's good for everyone.
- relinquish, on 11/21/2008, -1/+3This submission sucks. *bury*
But seriously though, this applies only to your personal google login, nobody else's. So its not as much of a wiki as it is a personal customization. - pob000, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2The search results can only be dugg up and down when you are signed into your Google account. Only you see these modified results.
If you sign out, the generic Google results are unchanged. - Archos, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2... And Digg's market shares is plummeting. You won't sell Digg now.
- Archos, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2But you only bury one web page on one search page. You don't bury an entire web site on all search pages.
- roctimo, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2Dude if I could place ads on the inside walls of my apartment and have them halve my rent, I would do it in a ***** second.
- legoalert33, on 11/21/2008, -1/+3I can't wait for the new era of Google bombing.
- falcon707, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2Digg has scarred me.
Even though it's been months, every time I click on a Youtube link I'm scared of being Rick Roll'd. - TheMachine1, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1I do not see the icons yet when I sign into google but I notice the "note this" link in search results.
- neowolfwitch, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1It's apparently being slowly rolled-out to a certain number of "random" people. So- if you are logged-in to your Google account and don't see the new buttons- Google doesn't like you...
(Seriously though- while there have been several articles about it in the Tech. media- it isn't widely available yet. The articles I've read seem to assume that everyone has access to it, which isn't the case.) - NicholasBentley, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1I didn't have it at first and then I did a search and there it was. Played with it for five minutes. Then did another search and the feature was gone again. Is there a switch somewhere or a bug?
- Scott2, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1there's not a billion and a half ways that could go wrong.
