- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Mr Schmidt meant 100 billion in revenue, not market capitalization. Market capitalization is the ammount of money that all the investors "give" to google through stocks. So they want to make 25 Billion per each quarter (currently make 1.5 Billion per quarter)
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"ONE HUNDRED BILLION DOLLARS!!!!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
*puts pinky finger up to mouth* - Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's all fine and dandy, but they need to find other ways to make money besides search ads. Sooner or later Microsoft, Yahoo or the next 'Google' will find a way to cut into their marketshare and it is going to hurt the big 'G'.
- FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They could make it, but only if they use all of that Dark Fibre they've been buying to set up a cheap broadband service!
I can't think of any other way of making that much money! - pavelich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you can even see it on digg... GMAIL HAS A NEW FEATURE, SEND MAIL BUTTON and everyone freaks out and diggs it. I dont get it
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is where the easy button comes in handy.
- jaybones1515, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1step 1: announce goal to build $100 billion company
step 2: ???
step 3: Profit! - mackoid101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats a lot of ads... :P
- spamzor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1100b is a huge target, perhaps too large - the target itself may cause its stock to drop when they fail to achieve their goal...
I suppose they could do it, but where is the product which is going to make all of thier money? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice irony; the story is on Yahoo. The irony alone= digg+
- Outdoor83, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We all agree it's not gonna happen (except for the stragglers who say things like "dark fiber will light up." And what, dump money at the terminals?). They're not gonna get $100 billion dollars in revenue. If they do, I refuse to ever condone them as a company again... that drain on the economy into one place can't be a good thing.
Back to earth: it's very disconcerting to hear a company state "profits" as its goal. Your goal is to make a great product, get it out to the masses, and keep ahead of the competition. Profit is a side-effect to all great companies, not a destination. I'm worried Google's focus will shift into cash and then we just have another huge corporate megaton company who hates consumers. - sulestis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 And they will do it with google video and google pack!!!!
- themachina, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I seriously doubt they meant $100 billion in revenue, especially if they mean to accomplish that in '06.
More likely they think there's a lot of fluff in the current $111 billion market capitalization (which, with a P/E of 74, there is probably is), and they want to get to a sustainable $100 billion market cap. In other words, GOOG probably values themselves significantly under the market, and are intending to reach an more realistic, sustainable $100 billion market cap based on internal figures. - Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Wow. I've been saying Micro$oft with a dollar sign for the S. Gotta think of something for Google now..."
Take your pick...

They keep this up and soon Micro$oft will be Mi¢rosoft!!! - Heavy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't get this GOOGEL thing.. ok it's a good search engine ... what makes it worth $100.. the adds? i c no adds i have adblock..
- docxxvi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0and it'll take $99B to fix their bleeding interface design
- tsds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its an advertising company...there is plenty of money there if they move into Radio, Print & TV ads brokering.
- kartbart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0IRONY and HUMOUROUS:
The Google Ads on this page are all about "Woodworking" and "Garage building" ??? Is that what Google thinks will make a $100bn company?
Nice joke - Jero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Smart way to increase your stock's worth...
- vtsvenjob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0maybe with $100 billion in revenue they could invest in a space program to go and get that $50 trillion 3554 Amun asteroid. Now that would be something...
- kartbart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For a company that says DO NO EVIL:
- Company says will not give guidance
- CFO says "our growth is slowing, now only organic" and shareholders take a 10% haircut
- 2 days later, the same CFO says "no limit to growth"
- Arrogant CEO says we want to be $100B company.
They just redefined EVIL. - jcs_goog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This can be done. The world is a big place and Google can command a high share of global ad revenue as I showed here in a blog article back in November:
http://schlerplotti.typepad.com/quantworks/2005/11/google_at_4200_.html - GamblerZG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I meant:
//Wow. I've been saying Micro$oft with a dollar sign for the S. Gotta think of something for Google now...
g00gle. Fits the image. - spadin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You could say googl€
- TAGG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0> "I'll leave it to you to judge whether that is $100 billion in market capitalization or revenue,"
> Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt said when discussing priorities for 2006.
I call this BS. Next year he will tell - "Sorry, your guess was wrong. No revenues for you - dumb-ass shareholders."
BTW, Even in revenue they can make 100bln without PROFITS.
Simply take dollars from one place and give to somebody else without taking any commision.
A lot of people will be happy to use Google if it will be free for them.
Let's wait while thouse evil people will start talking about profits. - GamblerZG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0//Google
g00gle - Braxo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0USA ran an article on or around 2/27/2006 saying that Google was expanding outside of the internet. For example, google would buy a block of TV commercial time and auction it off to potential companies that would display their own ads. They also were talking about doing this with radio. Google profits if the amount brought in by the auction is more than what they payed for the time.
Now imagin if Google could do this on a large scale, they could become the biggest advertising company in the world. - jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well, if you guys hate certain companies like MS, should should really be concerned about any company that says their goal is to make $100 billion. That usually means they are willing to do anything to do it, no matter what it does to their customers.
- Kazrog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google's going down this year. Fo rizzle.
- Areus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"you can even see it on digg... GMAIL HAS A NEW FEATURE, SEND MAIL BUTTON and everyone freaks out and diggs it. I dont get it"
haha - adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I thought their goal was to organize all the information in the world? What happened to that?
- zonemen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google came out and said this because of the negative response they got this week from saying Google's growth is organic, and not as strong as before.
I personally doubt they will reach this target. Soon enough people will turn against the company (just like against Microsoft), and that will be the downfall of Google. Sad, but true. - Enoch9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"you use google any time you need to do a text search on the web. you used them today and you'll use them tomorrow."
I haven't used Google for weeks. - compu73rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+02 words. Good luck.
- CombatWombat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, they have my support. They've certainly kicked ass privacy-concerns, and they're turning around a little with China. Plus, they're damn nice to the average everyday user. I mean seriously, all I need to say - Google pages - and it's just proven that google is so not evil. If any tech company deserves a good $100 billion right now it's google (Canonical Ltd / Ubuntu are organizations).
- szelij, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0$100B? It's sounds quite insane to me. I don't know how they're going to do it i doubt theres $100B in revenue on the Internet that Google can take advantage of. They prolly mean market capitalisation...and you know some stupid idiots are going to buy more Google shares.
- sirplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0they'll do it. doubters don't understand who these guys are. wait til all that "dark fiber" lights up. and thank goodness. why not an upstart powerhouse with the slogan "don't be evil"? you think the world would be better if we still had to look at MS and Apple and Intel, without Google in the mix? spare me. you use google any time you need to do a text search on the web. you used them today and you'll use them tomorrow.
- spambot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is poetic. Kind of like watching a child grow into adulthood. Young Google was so cute. Remember long before censorship, when it was a crazy, young idealist with that starry-eyed mantra "Don't Be Evil." It's great to see they're growing up and seeing the through the eyes of an adult, realizing true happiness lies with materialistic goals.
- Rajio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This just in: Company's goal - To make lots of money. STOP THE PRESSES!
- gator99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would imagine they're going to roll out their "GBuy" service to get a lucrative share of the market currently dominated by PayPal.
- Marno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0g%gle
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who cares.
Enough with the Google ***** already. - lludacrisboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thats why you gotta hop on with them now. better buy up your shares with them casue i did. their gonna sky rocket
- furtwan1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0funny, stock drops...google makes wild claims.
didn't see that coming...
evil. - Double-Z, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just after the stock drops, lol.
- MrHomeValueCom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this just in...
google scratches balls...
stock up $30 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah... I plan to make $100 billion this year too... :P
- sirplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0my goodness. read "the victorian internet" by tom standage, then tell me the dark fiber doesn't matter. dump money at the terminals? essentially, yes. wabbit season.
- drunkJerkface, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thought their goal was to not be evil...
