- jtdgrz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Anyone else think using your gmail address for the subdomain is a baaad idea?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Its a great way to get spammed too. It uses the same name as your Google email account.
- MOGua, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7people should stop posting their Googlepages here, it's like posting your gmail...
A spammer only needs to do:
1. search for x.googlepages.com
2. append @gmail.com to x
3. ???
4. profit!!! - tuxmelvin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I feel like it's 1997 all over again!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5this is the worst news ever for most hosting companys.
Google is going to take over a huge market of the hosting biz I am willing to bet. - MikeSD34, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Sorry, your web browser is not yet supported.
Our programming wizards tried their darndest to get Google Page Creator to work with as many browsers as possible. But alas, even the most expert practitioners of web sorcery must sleep now and again, lest their JavaScript magic run dry.
So, for now, you'll need either to download a new version of Firefox or download a new version of Internet Explorer (Windows only), and then come right back."
Don't let the magic die! ( on safari ) - synae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5ok...addressing some of the complaints.
"you can't delete the pages"
go to the page manager, check the box of the page you want to delete, and then choose more actions>delete (or unpublish if you jsut don't want it accessible). done.
"you can't download the pages"
er...yes, go to the page and save the web page just like you would any other page. you can see all your pages at the aforementioned page manager.
"you can't use the pages on your own domain!"
yes you can. just download the pages and put them on your regular domain/host.
"digg effect! LOL!"
Digg isn't the only tech news website. everyone is trying this right now.
"spammers will find my email address!"
First, (if you're going to use this as your website host/editor) consider getting a different email address just for the site. second, it's just as easy to send email to "blahblahblah@gmail.com" as it is to test blahblahblah.googlepages.com.
"you can't edit the HTML"
yes you can, there is an (unfortunately) tiny blue link in the bottom left corner. for those of you than want more power over the HTML, create it locally and upload it as a file (on the page manager). then this is just some free web space.
"it's ugly!"
not everyone thinks so, get over yourself.
"it doesn't work in my browser!"
neither did gmail at first, wait.
"it's going to be just like geocities!"
yea, probably. - siouxmoux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Google Page Creator gets the Digg Effect. Oh just great.
- Justus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"We're sorry...
... but your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now."
Grrr... - corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's pretty cool! Google keeps getting better and better
- GuineaPig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Google likes a challenge. Apparently, Blogger noise didn't make indexing hard enough.
- kday, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2LOL, it allows "adult content". Time to post some porn :P
- MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://vurtunetech.googlepages.com/index.html
Nice to knwo you can upload custom html with googles very own ads in them - peregrine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well think of it this way.
No bandwidth limit.
Easy to build and work with.
And now you won't get those annoying Photobucket bs things crapping up your forums.
Will it be as bad as geocities? Probably. Will it look prettier and run better?
Bet your ass it will.
Go google. - seventoes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Woot! Go trogdor!
Wanna know what i think google is doing? They wait for a rumor to come out, then they RUSH and make that rumor true so noone gets dissapointed. Thats what it seems like they did here, because it seems like something that a corporation put together in about 2 weeks. - cmajewski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The Digg effect...
Thank you for your interest in Google Page Creator! Google Page Creator has experienced extremely strong demand, and, as a result, we have temporarily limited the number of new signups as we increase capacity. In the meantime, please submit your email address and we will notify you as soon as we are ready to add new accounts. Thank you for your patience. - MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's also good for hosting your images for free without them complaining about size.

hell yeah...+3
Google pages reminds me of the old days when everyone had a "homepage" at geocities. Good thing they bought blogger instead of releasing this... - danglerman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2To the digg effect!!!!

We just overpowered google's servers guys, nice job! - Widescreen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is it just me or are we all giving away our gmail email addresses by posting one of these pages? The page is gmailaccountname.googlepages.com right? Harvesters rejoice!
- evil_marty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I doubt I'm the only one who has thought of this but doesn't it seem google are doing a .mac? I mean maybe not OS intergration but they are starting to provide all the tools and features of .mac.
.mac mail = gmail
backup = not yet done
website = google pages
blog = blogger
syncing = sorta google desktop and gmail
so are they going to compete with apple and go better? - meson2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is violates the rich media patent : http://digg.com/programming/U.S._Grants_Patent_For_Using_AJAX :-D
- cloud525, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Notice there's no ads at this point...
Though they claim "What you see is what you'll get":
As you edit your page, you're seeing exactly what it will look like when other people see it. No complex tools to learn. No web designers to hire.

Still, looks cool otherwise. - pkkid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My first reaction was cool.. After using it for about 3 minutes, I lost hope and realized it is just a 2006 version of geocities page builder with less options but cleaner code.
You Google fanboys have yet another toy to brag about tho.. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1worked here .. finally Google Webhosting..
100 MB and no file size limit .. and no bandwidth regulation ..
now it only has to support asp / php - kherzig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In the days of xanga, myspace, and other blogs, how much of a need is there for something like this? Or maybe google will be the next myspace or xanga! Vote Google for President!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1free. no ads. 100mb space. great interface. wow, one can't go wrong with this.
it does have a lot of implications for piracy though. forget gmailing songs to one another, just upload some MP3's and whatnot to a throwaway gmail account's google page and away you go! - trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Also this works fine for me in Camino (then again I am using camino as firefox agent).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it actually restarted my computer..and not a cold boot either, it was as if I had gone to start>shutdown ..really weird occurence..
- MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, and they even let you edit the html. Well, I got to hand it to google, they did a great job on this, and its much better than any other webhost out there infact, they offer a lot of space for what free? Can't compain there even if you use it to host images.
- dylanA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1did digg just take down google?
- NiLeS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OK, so Trogdor == Google Geocities (Kinda):
http://www.valleywag.com/tech/google/googles-secret-plans-trogdor-calendar-and-wifi-153854.php - aliguana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1PapillionUK : I live in the UK and it works for me (mind you, I do have my Gmail set on US settings, so I get all the Googletalk goodness too)
- ANorton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So when is google going to allow you to purchase your own domain name and use this instead of lamegmailname.googlepages.com?? I read Mircrosofts Office Live Beta allows you to do this.
- CerebralVisions, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I might not use it. But would recommend it to those wanting to try the web out.
pretty cool.
Where TF did he find this? - mbaguy4000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmmm...image uploader not liking my files. Getting "failed" messages over and over. File size on each are less than 3mb.
- crbaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Excellent write up about Google Pages on TechCrunch.
http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/02/22/google-pages-released/ - topperstone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its very flexible look: http://chulorey.googlepages.com/index.html :D Apache rulz
- mateo60, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1could you link your podcast to it? use google bandwidth? or am ignorant? :)
- blindog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Awesome! fast, autosaves, flexible, and FREE.
Another Google tool. - ogletree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow Digg affect on Google that is something. I wrote a review of it.
www.ogletreeseo.com - Hollywood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What the... I get a 404 error for pages.google.com and www.googlepages.com
But I can get to the user pages from those submitted in the comments..
I am accessing this from Australia - ntnwwnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How long until they put forced Google ads on the pages?
Also, anybody instantly knows your email addy.
[email addy here].googlepages.com - CheeseheadDave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does Google hate Safari for some reason? Didn't Google maps not work on Safari when first released? When I went to Google's page to report a concern, Safari 2.x wasn't even listed as a browser choice.
Pretty sad, considering that Safari is standards compliant...
http://webstandards.org/buzz/archive/2005_10.html#a000584 - tzon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Works in Camino for me (version 1.0)
- Nighthawke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@bahaal: @applepro: Alot of comments and anti-hacking checks in the source code. Fattens the page up a bit, but they do the trick when the time comes for each entry to come into play. The pages look good and are tight. Well done!
@google: You might have just gave yahell/***** something to go take some antacids for: an EXCELLENT HTML editor! - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://dan428.googlepages.com/home
I used a comment from a user here on the page. Just for testing it out..
i think its great, google did an excellent job catering to the average user. they also let you edit the html. kudos to google. - jobeats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1time to go and register some new gmail accounts
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anyone have success embeding a Flash file? It strips mine out when I publish.
