- goat77, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27Uh huh, got it too. Didn't think much of it.
- 2000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Yep, I just got the same e-mail right now. Google Office is beginning to take shape.
- pjack91, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7They are probably taking it out of beta, and making people use their gmail username/password to sign in.
- tommajor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Actually it was sent from Writely, but I guess they are Google ;-).

In a few days, we will update your Writely account to use your you@gmail.com Google Account registration settings.
This means you'll need to use your Google Account password when signing in, not your Writely password (if they're different).
If you've forgotten your Google Account password, just go to https://www.google.com/accounts/ForgotPasswd
Thanks!

Only thing that is changing is the login authentication. What new features are you all talking about. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@unsavory
You might want to try copy and paste the next time you quote someone. - benliong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5>They are probably taking it out of beta, and making people use their gmail >username/password to sign in.
Funny, you know how they have this Beta Level Meter where they ask you if they're ready to get out of beta? It was 62-64% ready last time I checked, and I voted not ready because they didn't have page view and no direct way to email document to co-worker. I guess they'll be fixing at least the email part with integration with gmail. - acroyear2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, I just received the same thing. If something is coming of this soon, I have to say it's about time. Writely appears to me, to be in very stable use. I wonder if they are just implementing new features. Maybe that's the reason for their delay.
- errer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I've been using Google spreadsheets for a while now...while it is a little sluggish, the convenience of having access to a document at home and at work without having to send the latest version back and forth each time is well worth it.
Writely offers the same convenience, but currently, it's not integrated at all into the Google suite of applications. Integrating it would definitely be a good thing. - bdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oh God! They make **one** announcement, and it means the whole world is changing. It's just a login people.
- Tawni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I also received that email. Writely has been far better than word and I would definitely purchase a Google office package before buying another MS one.
- benliong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, it looks as if they're really trying to tie everything in with gmail, which makes sense. In normal business environment, the app you use most is probably email.
Gmail integrates with Google Calendar rather nicely. Not iLife type of integration, but integration nevertheless. :) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Anything I say about what might be coming would be pure speculation, but I'm excited.
I got everyone at work usign Writely for all our needs there and it's worked absoloutly perfectly. Having it as part of a productivity suite inside google would be incredible. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm sorry. I didn't mean to waste your precious time with my article devoid of any purpose or concrete truths; you're obviously a busy man.
I have an idea though! Just don't read the story. In the thirty seconds you save you can probably post two more comments in random articles you don't care about at all that are devoid of any purpose and entirely obnoxious.
See how brilliant that was? I'm a people helper. - prab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree that I would buy something from Google first, but I still don't think Writely is better. My main complaint is margins. In MS office it is just click and drag, try to set margins at all in Writely. They also need to have an advanced mode with features such as office (mail merge, rotate pictures, tables, ect.) I realize that they are trying to be simple, but if these features could be activated with a checkbox it would keep a clean interface. I hope Google reads digg.
- pacificdave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I doubt anything is going to happen within the next few days other than merging your writely account with your Google account. Same thing they did with Blogger.....
- Kratos76, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4OMG! I just found something that's not really news worthy, but maybe I can submit it to Digg so I can up my profile and people will think I am really cool! I know, I'll write about it in my blog, then I can submit it from my digg user name which is totally unlike my other username that i use in my blog, then they'll really think I was fast on the digg submitting! Yay!!
Edit: Okay, I actually did digg this. I got the email too. It's cool yes, I was just using this as an example to the major flaw in digg.com. It's a popularity contest. - dayquil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And yet you've managed to gloss over the other major flaw, where a ludicrous portion of the comments are spent talking about how stupid things are, or how stupid the people who submitted them are, instead of letting the digging process control what gets promoted.
Congratulations on catching the stupidity though, you're making strides! Go you! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Or perhaps they are just consolidating their authentication services?
Digg down for wild speculations. - acroyear2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh come on. No one here is talking about a stupid login. We're all looking forward to Google making new applications. That's what this is about.
- Chris24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ya... Its about time... Microsoft is my least favourite company... Google is one of my favourites... Because they have soooo many USEFUL! Services, mostly powered by AJAX. And i was thinking recently, Microsoft has 1 AJAX Powered Web 2.0 application - The Microsoft Office online trial.
Soooo... its about time google! - macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1:-)
I switched to my gmail account about a month ago. Now if they will make it tie closer to the rest of the Google properties. And change the color to match Google, add tabs and mimic Zoho's online wordprocessor just a little more. OK, just kidding about zoho - serious about the tabs though. - randyzhang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=writely
- simd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Edit: Okay, I actually did digg this. I got the email too. It's cool yes, I was just using this as an example to the major flaw in digg.com"
Err, how is an interesting and relevant article getting to the front page of Digg an example of a major flaw? - randyzhang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1maybe it's your browser's settings?
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So does this mean that all Google account holders will have access to Writely now?
- TanNg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is one time convenient, while using goog application like excel you have ALL USAGE TIME convennient. I can understand when ppl praising Gmail, but praising Writely and Google spreasheet seems like political prerefences not real value. You will hurt your productivity for using inferior productivity tools.
- joel8x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope you will be able to open word documents sent as attachments and read in gmail directly in writely. That kind of integration would be key.
- mrkmrk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can set them when you print the paper from your browser.
- ApplCmptrDood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hopefully it'll get out of beta and work with Safari!
- Dawson1066, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Google's office apps are pretty neat, but does anybody know how to get right-clicking in Firefox to work properly? The Firefox context menu always covers the app context menu.
- steveatdownmix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But will it be available to Google For Domains users?
Spreadsheets isnt, currently. - metalhead3767, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I got it too. Google hardly ever takes anything out of beta. Gmail is still in beta and its been what, 4 years? They might just want to put the google logo all over it so as to make it seem less like a separate company.
- SoreGums, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd prefer to use my real email address instead of @gmail .... oh well.
If hosted gmail accounts integrate properly in terms of contacts and pictures I'd use gmail hosted. I like having pictures of my contacts, that's why I've stayed with @gmail and setup the send-as thing :) - trump48257, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Has anyone else not been able to go to www.writely.com recently? I haven't been able to load the page for like a week and a half. Any ideas?
- jordkett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its probably just a convenience thing. Makes it easier to sign in, and keeps googles databases smaller.
- kuya, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Sorry. We all received emails. No news here. Lame.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame
- trump48257, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Tried it on two computers...Mac and PC using Firefox, IE, Safari, and Opera. Can't figure it out.
- bradleyland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yaaaaaay AJAX!! Yaaaaaaaaaaay!
This post (and the preceding) brought to you by Special Ed. - bcavanaugh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm just not sure yet about online apps or an online "office" suite. I've been playing with both Google spreadsheet and Writely for some time now, but I'm not totally sold. I guess I'm just so used to standard applications it just doesn't feel right yet.
- allanak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1meh...I got this too. Didn't seem all that interesting. When/if the new features get released, post another article :P
- Kratos76, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1you'll get it soon dawg! don't worry! Breath, yes. It will all be ok soon.
- gmemon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1i got that mail too.. if any of you played red alert II .. then it feels like the chronosphere is getting ready... i.e. Google Office :)
- funbags, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2lmao
- MuddyPitch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I haven't gotten an email yet. Marked as inaccurate.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Yeah.. I got the email a few hours ago. It technically came from "writely.com" though.
- corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3I got one. Was thinking of sending in a notice to Digg, but then I saw this here so I dugg it instead!
- MSTK, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0sulacio - i think he was using a play on words.
(Edit - gah, I clicked the wrong "reply". anyone know how to fix this?) - bll3r87, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1yea i just got mine too. . . .
What is Digg?
