- sickaltima, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3ftfa "I believe this is a great chance for Yahoo and Ask to knock Google off its pedestal. If I owned Google stock, I would be selling it right now."
anybody want to sell google stock half price let em know? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's a massive job trying to keep a search engine serving up the right pages and I don't envy the team who are trying to sort this mess out. Great documentation Joey and a good clear example.
- capnrefsmmat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No, I've noticed quite a few other sites that have just "fallen out" after being #1 for years. Some of which changed nothing at all, while the sites that took their places are not relevant at all.
- classifieds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good article Joey.
I haven't used Google search in over a month. Best explaination I've heard so far for the crap results. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I do both myself.
And I do believe this could impact Google's earning power. I hear teenages making fun of google all the time. Thats gotta tell you something. - JoshA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2your sell your stock conclusion is crap. don't think for a second that this will hurt google's earning power. the worse google SERPs are the more likely someone is to click on an ad. google isn't broken because its search is changing, the way you think about your site is broken. stop relying on SEO and make something that people will go to on purpose, not by the accident of search.
- Wackos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes, Google is smoking crack.
- EnviroChem, on 05/22/2009, -1/+2The article has some very interesting observations about how the major SEs differ.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's not just your article Joey .. It's all overe the web .. :)
Anyway nice thread. - ohiosweetheart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1very informative. Thank you for making it simple for webmasters who are new to this SEO stuff.
- mecki78, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Google has simply much more pages in their index than Yahoo or MSN or Ask. more pages also means more "crap pages" and more "crap pages" also means worse results. But what if it was one of the crap pages you were looking for, maybe it's not so much crap after all? You'd never find it on Yahoo, MSN or Ask. They don't even know it. E.g. the security focus pages are very relevant and important if you run such a board, and who knows if Yahoo knows about these at all.
When I search for something, I prefer to get as many pages as possible. For me only the raw page count is important. If the results are not what I wanted, I modify the search term till all the crap pages are out (usually adding two or three negative search terms starting with - will kill them all). So I will always go with the search engine which gets me the most results, not with the ones that gives me the best results, because what is best and what not, is still something I decide, not the search engine.
The MSN manager once said "When people search for TFTs, they want to buy one, not to find out how they are working". So? Really? Funny. When I search for TFTs, it's never because I want to buy one, it's always because I need technical information about them. If I want to buy one, I go to a shopping search engines that has direct store links in my neighborhood. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they should have left everything as is a long time ago instead of getting feedback from webmaster world and adjusting things to fit them better.
- roadies, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1and WHY AREN'T YOU USING NOFOLLOW TAGS!!!
How dare you, bow now before the mighty GOOG.
Excellent article btw JC - Liminal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Good theory. Hope G cleans up their act soon
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice read!
- noppid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sounds like the words of a marketing man. Sure, people sell stuff, that's what advertising is for. When the only thing google serves is adsense sites that show ads that create adwords revenue, there is a serious problem.
People want information long before they look for a buy button. Most no one goes out to buy without doing research. That is a fact. Over sell me and I'll pay more just not to deal with you.
Plus, as another poster pointed out, the kids with mommies credit cards think google is useless.
Monetize that! - jukhau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if you do warez, porn, sex etc. searches with google, it gives really weird results, there's something strange going on.
- pcmarketing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Some people have a problem with affiliate sites, but at least they lead to a site where someone can perform an action (buy something). Made for adsense pages often lead to an endless circle jerk of clicks, where google gets a % of every click.
- noppid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1They seemed to have installed their own challenges. No backing out of this one. They have to fix it live it seems.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1ROFL!!
Thanks Sarahk - messiah18, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1A better way of finding out if Google is relevant is to search for porn keywords like "porno clips" you'll actually see then that Google is truely broken just look at the results.
- cope, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1why did this? Its spam, and hearsay..
that guy obviouslly just sucks in SEO..
my website is in the top 3 all the time with the searchword V8.
I just think the writer is having a rant. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Thank you everyone. I hope it helps us gain some insight.
