- ThePharaoh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm not too sure about this one. The only thing I could guess is that with MS and Yahoo joined at the hip for IM services, Google is trying to attach itself to AOL. If Jabber were closed source then Google probably could have gone that route, but since AOL is being left high and dry it makes a nice target for Google.

http://www.freneticphoto.com - whizzbang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They are doing it as Microsoft are looking at buying AOL as AOL are a large source of Google's ad revenue. If Microsoft buys AOL then Google loses money. If Google buy AOL then its income stream is safe.
- jonnyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0no don't! That's a really dumb idea, in my opinion. The only advantage would be forcing AIM to work with Google Talk, which would be kind of a big one except for the fact that Gtalk doesn't actually produce any direct revenue.
