- spludge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Errr.. google has sponsored this network for many months now. I work across the road from bryant park and this plaque has been up for several months. Google has an office nearby and I assume this is just a bit of their 'community outreach' I wouldn't read too much into it.
- maxflava, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"spludge" is correct I work in the area as well and that sign has been there for a while.... more info:
http://www.bryantpark.org/amenities/wireless.php
also there are like 11 other wireless networks blanketing this park. - aphextwin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can't wait work takes me past there tomorrow...
- mattclare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OK, so I'm in Toronto:
If I go to the top of the CN Tower, what exact direction should I point my Cantena for free Google WiFi? - coldsteel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I haven't used Bryant Park in about two years since my job moved out of midtown, but it definitely was NOT sponsored by Google then - We moved a couple of months after David Blaine did that standing on the flagpole stunt in the park (My office had an almost birds eye view looking down on the guy) and I used to use the wifi (with VPN to get back into the company network) several times. So maybe some of you guys that saw this earlier should have said something before when everyone's been trying to figure out where Googleweb or GoogleNet or whatever is going to pop up next.

- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0... I might add that this network was far from speedy. I was frequently frustrated with super-slow downloads. :-
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh man, this makes so much more sense now...
Google sponsoring wifi networks instead of creating their own...I could see this taking off easily :) - CheapDigWannbe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is awesome, I'm planning a trip to manhattan alreasy =)
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google has taken over the world in 2014.
Microsoft has been boughten by Google.
Yahoo has gone bankrupt.
Google is now power hungry.
Google OS is now in 95% of households. - Singee15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Insert Generic Google "taking over the world" comment here
- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Flatly wrong.
I used Bryant Park wifi all summer long and it was always sponsered by Google.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oddly enough, my PDA detected a wifi network this morning called "Google". I wasn't able to connect but it was being detected for several hours... and this is in Celebration, FL (Walt Disney World area)

- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Can anyone explain to me what this doucher is talking about? If there's anyone he wants running this wi-fi, it's google. If it weren't for mining information anonymously, google wouldn't exist.n
- Joe_rigby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0All hail Google.
= ) - Neptuned, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Oh i love Google. Welcome to New York fellas.
- brucebeh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"Oh my Oh My...when is google going to make it free near me :)"
haha, i'm thinking the exact same thing. I just can't wait till i can see "GOOGLE" as an ssid on my wifi network. - coldsteel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Hows this a dupe? I searched and found no links for Bryant or IP before submitting this and DIGG submit never showed any similar stories (bunh of google stories but not this one) as far as I can tell the blog entry was made today?
