- webkami, on 12/11/2008, -7/+83Not until we get our AdBlock.
- stoanhart, on 12/11/2008, -3/+42I don't think it can repeat Mozilla's success. Mozilla offered an awesome browser to replace a buggy, slow, old browser. Google is introducing an awesome browser into a field with other awesome browsers (and an improved IE).
- holyskeleton, on 12/12/2008, -2/+41I switched from Firefox to Chrome specifically because Chrome is minimalistic.
- dev3, on 12/11/2008, -1/+28This is the right target for Chrome. It is going to be very difficult for the geeks and leet to switch over to chrome from Firefox, even after it fully supports extensions, because it is just so minimalistic.
It's perfect for those people who never change their default web browser. - greedyemu, on 12/12/2008, -3/+27I've switched to Chrome for most of my browsing. It's just too damn fast. Firefox feels so bloated and badly designed after using Chrome for a few weeks.
- inactive, on 12/11/2008, -14/+31Get FireFox
- davengineer, on 12/11/2008, -9/+23Sorry, but Foxmarks alone is enough to keep me on Firefox.
- dvsbastard, on 12/12/2008, -1/+15Adblock Plus:
296,219 weekly downloads
30,171,465 total downloads
Your figures are just a little off... - rubblecovers, on 12/12/2008, -4/+17absolutely
- elnerdo, on 12/12/2008, -3/+16I'm just going to put this out here:
Internet Explorer 7 is a better browser than Safari. - SupaFlyTNT, on 12/12/2008, -1/+13Nope; most offices use IE because their legacy million dollars backends require it such as Oracle. People think business can adopt things just like a normal user, this is not the case; browser change = lots of potential money in changing/upgrading internal systems.
- secaedelcielo, on 12/12/2008, -2/+14Still no Mac compatibility?????????
Why, Google?! Why do you hate us?!!!?!? - seventoes, on 12/12/2008, -0/+10You misspelled "one of the most popular firefox extensions with over thirty million downloads".
Just because you don't use it doesn't mean it's not popular. - indyGuy, on 12/12/2008, -2/+12Good luck with that, Google.
- 3gibberish4q57, on 12/12/2008, -2/+10You know what would be awesome? An article about Chrome with a luster-related pun in the title.
- bigfatphony19, on 12/12/2008, -1/+9I have no problem with Chrome, but when I sit down at my computer, I open Firefox automatically. I don't think it's going to change unless I have some GREAT reason to use Chrome.
Sorry, Google. - sessone, on 12/12/2008, -5/+13why would you need chrome? isnt safari vastly superior to everything already?
IT JUST WORKS! - Manther, on 12/12/2008, -0/+8It is. I didn't fully realize just how big until I got a new computer at work, and I didn't have it installed for just a couple of days... Once I realized it was missing, I took care of it, and I'll never go back.
- AlphaDrake, on 12/12/2008, -2/+8One of the biggest untapped markets is offices. Most offices use IE because it comes with windows, if Google could tap into that market, their percentage of browser usage would shoot right up.
- inactive, on 12/12/2008, -1/+7Less than 2,000,000,000 use the internet.
Almost 100% of Firefox users use Adblock. - MiGs2, on 12/12/2008, -0/+6After using adblock, I forgot the internet had ads!
- lemur, on 12/12/2008, -3/+9I think all true geeks can appreciate minimalism. If you're like me, you use multiple browsers depending on which one is most suitable. Chrome is simple and fast enough for me to do a lot of the spontaneous browsing I do while I'm at the desktop, and if I need some fancy extension or extra feature I can always fire up Firefox.
- lemur, on 12/12/2008, -1/+7Chrome Shines on the Desktop
- drgmdp, on 12/12/2008, -0/+6improve CPU usage issues and i'll eventually switch. you shouldn't need a dual core micro to browse the intertubes...
- footodors, on 12/12/2008, -1/+7they're tentacles are everywhere. They must be stopped.
Now there's adsense for domains.
Soon, we will all bow to the google god! - anonymous1986, on 12/11/2008, -1/+6It's officially out of beta now. However if you're on the dev channel you'll need to switch back onto the beta channel in order for it to update.

Quote: "We are working to add some common browser features such as form autofill and RSS support in the near future. We are also developing an extensions platform along with support for Mac and Linux." - Taiyoryu, on 12/12/2008, -0/+5I'd like to add Firebug and BugMeNot to the list of must-have addons before switching is possible.
- footfwd, on 12/12/2008, -1/+6Not if my hotmail account has any say in the matter... please fix the bug Google.
- fuse13, on 12/12/2008, -2/+7exactly. me too. im a web dev and am forced to use all sorts of browsers at work. when at home i choose to use a simple fast clean browser without a hint of bloat. right now chrome is that browser.
- lcarsdeveloper, on 12/12/2008, -0/+5From their own site:
http://dev.chromium.org/developers/design-document ...
The following lists some types of extensions that we'd like to eventually support:
* Bookmarking/navigation tools: Delicious Toolbar, Stumbleupon, web-based history, new tab page clipboard accelerators
* Content enhancements: Skype extension (clickable phone numbers), RealPlayer extension (save video), Autolink (generic microformat data - addresses, phone numbers, etc.)
* Content filtering: Adblock, Flashblock, Privacy control, Parental control
* Download helpers: video helpers, download accelerators, DownThemAll, FlashGot
* Features: ForecastFox, FoxyTunes, Web Of Trust, GooglePreview, BugMeNot - Fyrezerk, on 12/12/2008, -2/+7Dugg for the pun in the title.
- bales, on 12/12/2008, -2/+7Yes, because nothing is more annoying than moving your mouse over an ad and it plays a video or takes over your entire screen.
- awesometastic1, on 12/12/2008, -2/+7It's the speed that got me as well. Particularly speed in loading bloated sites like digg. It almost is a reasonable load time in Chrome.
- inactive, on 12/12/2008, -0/+5Although initially chrome proved to be much faster than fire fox giving me the extra umph to try it out for a couple of months, after a while of usage i felt it actually became just as slow as fire fox. Add to that no adblock, dev toobar (or any addons for that matter) and some weird quirks (the download tab wtf?) including pretty regular crashes, and i just cant get over it. thus i am back to ff. fire fox is still superior, though i would like to see the performance of both improved.
- lemur, on 12/12/2008, -5/+9Oh come on. It's not like the pages don't function anymore.
- ch40sBr1ng3r, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4Sorry, me <3 Firefox way too much....if i divorced FF now, it would take away the kids, and try to take half my stuff...
- sk33lz, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4Great, another browser I have to make sure everything looks ok after I design a webpage :| How about let's enforce the browser compliance standards for any company that wants to make a web browser. You can't make everyone happy with too many browsers. Currently, you can come pretty darn close. When more browsers emerge, this will only become more of a task for designers and webmasters. It is already a task to "hack" IE styles to line up with every other browser. Sorry for the rant, but hopefully the developers of these new emerging browsers are in tune with standardization of code in browsers like Firefox and Opera are. So far it looks like Chrome is doing a good job of following standardized code, but Netscape was also a great alternative to IE at one time.
- westyvw, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4Yes. Internet without Adblock and Flashblock == "OWWW MY EYES!"
- quaunaut, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4Uh, actually they have it in the design document.

Use Cases
The following lists some types of extensions that we'd like to eventually support:
Content filtering: Adblock, Flashblock, Privacy control, Parental control - m1zl3d, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4@elnerdo On Windows I would agree with you 100%...Safari for Windows blows (as does iTunes but that's a different discussion). However, on Mac OSX Safari is quite nice. I still prefer Firefox 3 but Safari renders pages pretty damn fast.
- inactive, on 12/12/2008, -2/+6It fits very well on Vista.
- lazerflesh, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4SUPPORT ADBLOCK
.... Or an equivalent. Than the net will flock to Crome. - Khast, on 12/12/2008, -3/+7*ahem* Internet explorer has been beat functionality wise by Firefox, Opera, Chrome (even in beta), and Safari.
I haven't used IE since 6.0... with the exception of playing with it when a new release comes out. - MrViklund, on 12/12/2008, -2/+5It's a dead end project and will probably end up in the thrash bin in a few years.
I think the reason why they took it out of beta so fast was because they wanted to get the buzz going again not letting the product fall into oblivion. - farfromhere, on 12/12/2008, -1/+4No.
- e2superman, on 12/12/2008, -2/+5Well I work for a company in the defense industry and smack dad on our homepage last month was a notice that banned us from installing Chrome. It cited security flaws as the main reason. I am not sure if this was because of flaws in Chrome or because it likes to talk to Google servers which is a risk to the company for many reasons. I am just thinking that Chrome will have a long way to go to convince companies -- most people use what they have at work at home...
- onClipEvent, on 12/12/2008, -0/+3for those who want to speedup Firefox boot times, try Firefox Preloader....as the name suggests, it preloads the app in memory so subsequent loads are much faster. the date might be old, but it works for v3.0.4.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffpreloader/
btw, i don't believe Chrome would ever have extensions or Adblockers, since that'll just weigh it down, taking away the main attraction of the browser. - Charklii, on 12/12/2008, -0/+3Actually, I see ads on Gmail - if the internet took a lesson of Ad placement from Gmail - I'd be happy. But as it is, ads tend to be intrusive and annoying.. so adblocker it is.
- drgmdp, on 12/12/2008, -2/+5diagnosis: you have not used it
