In response to privacy complaints google decided to change their policy to store your search records for "only" 18 months instead of 24. They don't need that data for 18 seconds let alone 18 months!

- inactive, on 02/29/2008, -3/+1Let me get this straight, the EFF did a freedom of information act request for records pertaining to Horvath's correspondence with Google from sometime in 2006 to whenever. Google hasn't been asked for anything, and has said if they are asked they will be glad to cooperate. The DOJ has acknowledged the request, but it seems there was no correspondence to turn over since Horvath worked on other cases during her tenure in the DOJ. So what are we upset about? the fact that Google hired someone from the DOJ? I think I can find other stuff to get upset about.

Go Digg ! - faskippy, on 02/29/2008, -4/+1Hey guys. Sorry to change the subject, but had to ask someone I was sure would know the answer. Here's the question: I bought a laptop from best buy almost a year ago. Toshiba. Took it on a job. Later, while looking for something, used Google Desktop to locate doc with key phrase. It pulled up all sorts of things that I had never seen, including a conversation (actually, more than one) regarding dropping the kids off at school, helping customers, etc. I have no idea where this stuff came from. I've never had these conversations with anyone by email, or otherwise. Thank God there was nothing bad that I could see. Is it possible that this brand new laptop was built with a recycled drive or something? I must say, I'm puzzled. Where could this stuff come from? Any ideas? P. S. No one else has used my computer since I bought it.
