So, Google will get a lot of free, mostly positive speculation hype for free from Apple's deals. And the best thing about it is that Google doesn't even have to follow through on any announcement of their own, because all of it will just be speculation on an idea, not an actual product like Apple (presumably).
This sets the stage for an ACTUAL google announcement sometime down the line. The speculation and hype will already be on everyone's mind, thus giving Google lots and lots of publicity and coverage when it happens.
Man... I just got MYSELF excited over what will no doubt be the Google music mind meld ipod/itunes killer! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4what in ***** sake are you babbling about?
- Petrarch1603, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4kowgod, you make a well thought and reasoned argument. However I think that you are speculating on Google's motives. You say that Google is "making noises" to be associated with the Apple 30th anniversary announcement, but you don't offer any evidence. I believe that Google is being honest when they say that they are not developing a music store. It seems wise and prudent for them to meet and network with executives in the music industry. Perhaps this relationship will come to fruition down the road, perhaps not.
- TKDWILSON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Google screwed up video. I am afraid of them getting into music until they fix that. Look how much Google video sucks. Youtube is better and has better content. Their DRM makes the pay ones useless. They used to have text from TV shows and such and it was search-able and they eliminated that without saying a word. They SAID they were going to make it so you could see small video clips from TV shows and THEY DIDN'T FOLLOW THROUGH. Now they got this horrible quality video store with VERY limited content. They need to make their video store and their video free downloads ROCK and they they need to move into music. Google is awesome at all the stuff they do, I have no idea why they put out an inferior product like their media so far.
Eric Wilson - Webteeth, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Is it really that great of an idea to have an announcement only a few days before Apple's rumored 30th anniversary event? I would imagine that whatever Apple has to announce would overshadow Google's announcement.
- PhaseDMA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree with you TKDWILSON. If Google messed up video why should anyone believe they achieve anything with audio?
On the other hand competition is never a bad thing for consumers. - kowgod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry, indeed I did mean that whole thing as a hypothetical, hence my sarcastic comment at the end about exciting myself and my inconspicuous use of the qualifier "if."
You're right, I'd mostly trust Google when it says it is unrelated. I don't have any evidence showing that this indeed is wha they have planned. I was just "thinking out loud" so to type... - ToddC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2In related news, Google announced that it really has never developed a useable video store either.

when you search for led zepplin all they need do iis have a side selection of led zepplin songs to download, put in your cc and off you go.
after all, itunes has shown without a doubt that music downloads are in huge demand, and can turn a profit. - Petrarch1603, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2rtfa, Google is not making an announcement of any sort. They met with industry executives and when this was confronted by a reporter they responded. No announcement.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Google must be an ancient name for the deity of the BullSh#+ subrealm of the disruptor/Confusor/dweller unevolved soul incarnations that are miles from Mars. Ok enough of my BS aside, google does nothing but BS at first and then turn around and do what they have just said they wont do once the heat cools down from the Analysts that influence their stock prices. The fact is they have intentions they deny them and then they work all sides of the fence, the owners are much like Palpatine and Count Dooku from StarWars. F Google
