..
oooo! Look at the shiny Google thing! Sweet!
How quickly we forget... - stewacide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1very amateurish, like most of Google's non-search efforts...
- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They've had many of these for quite a while, I use several of them regularly. Same for Google Desktop, new sidebar widgets are appearing all the time, with no fanfare.
People seem to dismiss Google stuff because it's not particularly pretty (most black text on white) and because it's not very complete when they release it. But the problem with that is that Google is into building frameworks using existing standards, and letting other people develop content. Remember, Google is primary a search company, that shapes their paradigm. They don't create content, they make it possible for other people to get their content out there. - MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2
I know I have to say this all the time but:
All you friggin DORKS who live on Digg.com and complain about "old" or "dupe" articles need to go out get some sunlight, maybe a girl/boyfriend. Seriously if all you have to do is sit around and make posts that say "Old." or "Dupe.", then maybe you don't need to waste any more of my oxygen. If sunlight or a companion doesn't do it for you, consider Prozac or equivelant.
The reason they articles make it back on the front page is because LOTS of people didn't see them the first time around. Hell I pop on here a couple times a day, and I still don't see all the articles that fly on and off the front page. Try to wrap your little minds around the fact that most people do not hang off of every single post at Digg.com, 7 days a week lik you do. GASP!
I bet that put goosebumps on your nearly transparent skin. - 1337geek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow, i might just switch back because of this, i went to http://www.netvibes.com/ because of some of its features, but man, these are some awsome additions.
- miketrin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1At least we didn't have to go to a google adsense blog to get to the new modules!
- Oakes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1None of them interest me. Google Personalized in general is pretty terrible - constantly saying "Information is temporarily unavailable" and taking ages for feeds to update. I recommend Goowy.com as a feed/widget page for Windows users; I recommend Safari and Dashboard for Mac users :-)
- foomojive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Netvibes rules. It's the easiest way to do RSS, even easier than any standalone application. Netvibes + Gmail + Meebo + Writeboard + Hipcal = web office.
- VStrider, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's great and all, but you got to sign up and accept google cookies.
Thanks but i'll keep my privacy instead. - oxymoron69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sweet, i needed a calendar on there...
- boolean4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Mini-mail allows you to set the from: field but the mail server will tack on another HTTP header that identifies the real source address.
- troydoogle7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0looks like they didn't test half of them.... too busy updating their chinease censors. Goolag ***** right up there with google video.
- wuleidando, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0they are ugly
- Inbal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's getting harder and harder to take sides in this competition. Nosey yet featurefull Google, or Netvibes?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Also you can spread modules in multiple pages to reduce load time of each page in www.pageflakes.com
- Recluse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is it just me or does the personalized homepage just not work. Its never worked for me, I keep trying to change the weather thing from happy, TX to where I actually live. And EVERY time I change it, nothing happens.
Hmm what a suprise, tried to add a new widget, didn't work. - Inbal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Problem solved, I tried it and it sucks. Most features don't work properly anyway.
- Singee15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0FUGLY - use www.live.com
- spacemonkeyx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think I'll probably stick with netvibes for now despite Google having some features I'd use (primarily the movie showtime one). I like how I can "minimize" and "maximize" my modules with Netvibes. If I added all the RSS feeds I have on Netvibes to Google, plus the del.icio.us module, etc. I'd have a homepage that would scroll for days.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll stick with Netvibes.
- caldroun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Seems like I just looked the other day, and thought...they really need to add more. Cool! They Did.
- LazyBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0most of them are useless and have been avalible on other sites for a while.
- iliketurtles2, on 11/20/2008, -0/+0Movie info works for the UK too :-) http://www.google.com/movies?hl=en&client=ig&q=movie:+theatres+DH1+3JP
- GuinnessGoblin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0heh I like the moving eyes :P
- specialk2hz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I personally like Googles Personal Search Page... I've tried others like netvibes but one reason keeps me at google. It has previous search box that tells me what ive searched for and my history. That is the one thing that keeps me at google... however I do like the eye candy of netvibes..
- Prontech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0goggle goggle goggle ... I'm od'd on them already. I use to love em' but has the expand their business beyond their core compentency I'm losing interest.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow .. so someone just copied everything out of http://www.googlemodules.com/ and put it there .. digg++
- Gomez1856, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice. thanks
- apache2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The google personal homepage is dull, and boring.
- patrickdurr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone know how to personalized the look and feel of the "personalized" page.. ie. color's, background image etc...
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sweet!! The traffic one is awesome!
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's a ***** ton!
- jacinto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with others in that they are not all that visually pleasing.
Plus, it's been done before.
BTW: How come no one mentioned live.com in this discussion? - Crockpot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow this is totally sweet. Now I can look at my Halo 2 stats in my homepage.
- vdxc, on 09/29/2008, -0/+0most of these have been here for ages, reported as old news.
- MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
I just picked up a few of them, some good stuff in there. I agree that they look like arse. Further evidence that most coders are crapy interface designers. - mikedpirone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0all these widgets have been there for about a month now. how this made frontpage i dont know.
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0google reader module is promising if you use googlereader :
http://www.google.com/ig/directory?q=reader
theyre all so ugly though, ill stick with google's - PlaidPhantom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like the Weather map. Very useful when I drive to work in another city.
- flea2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wish there was a "most popular" section so we know what people like and don't miss any good ones.
- squenix1221, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Sweet!
Just when I switched over to Mac!"
uhh, since when can you not use the personalized homepage on a mac? - dingledoink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0F1 Pit Babes is super awesome!!!
- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Don't forget all the freely available modules from here too: http://www.googlemodules.com
- emligy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0i don't like gadgets! i love widgets from http://www.widgipedia.com
- davidmenges, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like so many modules that my personal home would load very slowly. Is there a way to create a second page of Google modules that I'd browse to from my personal home only when I need less-used modules?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0IMO, www.pageflakes.com has the most useful modules. There are lots of really cool modules and they are very well done. For example, the Todo list, Address Book, Calendar modules are really feature rich and complete.
- MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
jesus, Im already having to scroll down to see all the stuff I added. I love the page though. It's the first portal / directory I have actually enjoyed in over 13 years online. - kingamoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0O.K. Doesn't Mini-Mail allow you to send emails with any "sender" address you specify? Is that legal?
- modcam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0woah i didn't expect them to actually use my torrent search widget. i would've thought they wouldn't want to endorse it due to piracy concerns. guess i was wrong!
- znarfor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How man, theses widgets are all damn ugly. I'll stick with http://www.netvibes.com/
