- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+23Im inventing a new social network called "going outside and meeting people like a human being" but it probably won't do well
- a7bat, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21Anyone feeling the social fatigue? I want an anti-social network.
- canewediggit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12a bit off topic- whatever happened to the digg social network? a few months back a submission got front paged about a bunch of digg users collaborating on an open source social network. did the project go anywhere?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10it's in public beta
- stalefries, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Could you please use the "Reply" button?
- gmprunner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Someone should make an anti-social network where you make a profile and you can't access anyone else's files, so there's no communication with anyone else whatsoever.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7its typical here on digg. all talk and no show

- Ethanael, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Mark wouldn't sell, and there is no reason for him to.
- jamble, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I need more social networking tools to keep up with all the social networking I do with my imaginary internet friends who I'll never meet.
Looking forward to web3.0... - ronin691, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Whether real or fake, you gotta love Darth Vader holding a banana and a guitar!

(and there used to be std-ster - but i can't seem to find it anymore. coz i didn't look) - smackhero, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3what's the point of having a network then? so you can all be anti-social together?
- verifex, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I am glad to see Google and Yahoo going the RIGHT way and funding a research project at a major university. That means that this project will have some real accreditation and not just be another silly entrant into the social networking orgy that we are currently in. That also means that when the research and software are done, Google has the money and reputation to implement it correctly.
I always found the idea of all these hundreds and probably even THOUSANDS of social networks rather counter-intuitive. As they are great at letting you meet other people on that same network, but they fail miserably at letting you be truly social with people all over the place. I find it stupid that in order to find some of my friends online I need the following:
1. Find a network to connect to and sign up.
2. Find a friend on the network, or convince a friend in real life to sign up.
3. Talk to people on these networks; About what exactly? Can't I just use email?
4. Something inherently interesting in the network itself that brings me back to it.
The social experience is simply much different online VS. real life! That is why these companies are putting research dollars into in order to deliver something that gives us a truly great medium to connect with people. As for the merits of being "social" on a computer, lets save that conversation for another day. :) - gadgetboy32, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3This will explain it all

- gfair, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1We don't need next-gen social networks, we need improvements to the existing ones. I only want to type my information so many times before I start bucking.

So yeah, who's Al and does he work for Google? I'm confused. May of 04? - jdoc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2pwonce.com? No. Have you watched the video?
- fenalphthalein, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I love how Gunther is one of the friends on the left of the picture.
- longboarder543, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2And it will be called "Goohoo".
- TroubleInMind, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Although I agree with your general sentiment, Pownce is alive and well - and attracting attention. So far, it seems like Twitter Plus, it seems to have potential.
- kingkilr, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Its not worth it for google, FB's valuation is $8 billion.
- smackhero, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2seriously. how is it that so many people still can't get the hang of the new comment system. is it really that difficult to use, or are these the digg octogenarians that can't even figure out how to copy and paste in microsoft word?
- ernestlehmann, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1What we need is someone who can combine the best of the chat interface with the ability to search address books or chat friends for six degrees of sepration. I know you and you know Joe and Joe knows Bono, but only a six degree search would turn up the path which could then be bartered, bid, sold, or otherwise commercialized for lead generation, fun, dating, jobs, etc. Someone must be able to do a better job than LinkedIn with this concept using chat instead of a web site?
- makingme, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Omg... seriously. Ever since Facebook opened up their platform, everyone and their mom have been building "social" networks. Seriously, I worked for 1 year to migrate my friends from Myspace to Facebook, definitely ain't switching anytime soon!
P.S, Pownce is worthless. Its twitter with grokked file-sharing. - neutrino15, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2I KNOW! Every other word these days is "social-network." I guess its part of the whole Web2.0 thing.. Personally, I am SICK of Web2.0! Not AJAX or good design, I like that, but all of this social stuff on the internet... These companies are just adding one more feature to an existing model and calling it new.. I want Web3.0!
- Netrilix, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Open vi or notepad.exe, depending on your operating system. That'll give you a nice anti-social network. Sorry, I don't know the Mac equivalent, probably iNote or iWrite or iCan'*****.
- longboarder543, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2And it will be called "Goohoo".
- ronin691, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Whether its real or fake, you gotta love Darth Vader holding a banana and a guitar!
http://www.techcrunch.com/wp-content/moshlogo.png - ZigVicious, on 10/11/2007, -7/+3yeah, facebook sucks, it could do with googles minimist design to un-clutter the interface.
