- bobpaul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't understand why everyone's always bitching about google video. Yes, the front page looks stupid, but it's google so you're not going to click anything there anyway, you're going to use the search tool.
The free videos are all low quality, but they were uploaded by people. If you change the setting in the lower left corner of the player you can tell it to run origional size or double size and it usually isn't half bad, just smaller. It's not google's fault people are uploading crap.

Google should stick to a minimal search/category/popular front page. Obviously Google needs to add more functionality to the google video such as tagging/category exploring but it doesn't need to be much in the way of GUI fluff.

The layout is pure google, they are not supposed to be graphics intensive eye candy experiences. Google is all about the function. They understand UI design and function better than most and thats all that counts on the web. Everything else is just fluff. It would be nice if they applied Google Suggest technology to the video store and had browsable categories. It looks like they are headed in that direction, but they still have a long way to go.
Hopefully the video and audio quality goes up and they hire a design team. Personally I like the layout of Google video (although they took a step backwards with the small icons). The store may be a gimmick as of now, but think of the possibility of people selling their own personal content through it. As for overall ease of use and the vast amount of content, I would say that the free videos are defiantly worth your time. Lets all remember that this is still in early Beta, and that it will improve over time. If anyone wants to rag on Google for something, why not the lame Google "Pack" that came out a few weeks ago?
