- Area51mafia, on 06/07/2009, -0/+51The guy's left hand is using the mouse on the right side of a computer that's off.
- Sham3d, on 06/07/2009, -1/+30This will make it easier to find weird *****
- jasdf, on 06/07/2009, -1/+21Seriously, when will Google take over the world?
- nicksource, on 06/07/2009, -0/+17I love the morphing effect as you navigate to another place.
"but until today, navigating the streets from your keyboard has been somewhat of a chore."
Keyboard != Mouse - borez, on 06/07/2009, -1/+14No but it can show you were to go eat.
- s4g4n, on 06/07/2009, -0/+10But can google maps cook my dinner? I didn't think so
- tonich03, on 06/07/2009, -0/+9Actually you don't even need it! Just go to Gmaps and there is no learning curve required... just wow
- Paranoidmarvin, on 06/07/2009, -0/+7It's like having super powers!
- RetepNamenots, on 06/07/2009, -0/+6Nice changes.
Does anyone know how long it usually takes for Google to upload new streetview cities?
The street view cars were going around Milton Keynes at the end of March, but it's still not accessible... - m0rph, on 06/07/2009, -0/+6or where to buy fresh ingredients.
- clickwir, on 06/07/2009, -2/+8Here, just go right to the video. It's all you need. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yx7arHbQkKA
- acceleration, on 06/07/2009, -0/+5Excellent. Looking forward for this type of street view navigation to come to Google Earth (those camera icons look bad and are annoying to use). Seamlessly zooming in from satellite view, to aerial view, straight into street view in Google Earth shouldn't be too far off.
- Majora26, on 06/07/2009, -0/+5In 2012, Google will become self aware...
- roijen, on 06/07/2009, -0/+5My guess is the mouse isn't connect to that machine.
That or Google has finally shown their true intent. They can now switch their arms and compute with their brains. - rieuwa, on 06/07/2009, -1/+5Love it Google : ) Keep these great features coming!
- nitsua11513, on 06/07/2009, -1/+5Google will actually become self aware in 2011 and will be sneaky enough to cover its tracks so that nobody even realizes that it achieved sentience. Then in 2012 after a year of planning and putting the pieces into place, it surprises even its creators and announces its intent to create a new utopia.
It turns out that during the time that it had to plan its move, Google monitored its users' behavior and selected those who were best fit to help foster the growth of this new Utopian civilization. Those who are worthy are taken to live with Google and prosper in its utopia. Some may be given a chance to enter, but only after years of preparation to prove that they too are worthy. Those who never make it are left to their everyday lives, but without the best of humanity there isn't much left of what we know as civilization today.
Thus ends the prophecy of Google Judgement Day, whence our lord Google delivers us googlers into Google Heaven, Google purgatory, or Google Hell. The end is near! - phylaxer, on 06/07/2009, -1/+4Wow they have 3D models that correspond to photography. GPS isn't perfect. Did you see how they knew buildings were vertical, and the height of terrain in the distance? Crazy.
- kylere, on 06/07/2009, -1/+4Ahhh the first step in SUCCESSFULLY taking over the world is to make sure people do not realize it.
- novenator, on 06/07/2009, -2/+4This feature is awesome and its great they're tweaking it for greater ease of use
- DamonToo, on 06/07/2009, -1/+3Just a true geek wanking to hot web app features.
- tonich03, on 06/07/2009, -1/+3Incredible. I wasn't excepting such a huge leap. Indeed, navigation was pretty bad in the previous version.
Did they have that laser system to determine the surrounding space since the beginning and they implemented it now? I was actually expecting that only to work in big city centers, but it works on my street as well.
A Google technocracy is coming, this is insane. - inactive, on 06/07/2009, -0/+1not really. if you were inside a cube (like the camera), you can determine where in space someone clicked using trig. This works because we assume the ground is level and the cube is perfect - this is why if you go to a street with a hill, the click feature seems a bit skewed
- Whatasillyhat, on 06/07/2009, -1/+2God dammit Google...
- ghatid, on 06/07/2009, -1/+2Wow...that means Google's put depth into all of these images...I'm no programmer, but isn't that insane?
- benbrooks101, on 06/07/2009, -1/+26 to 12 months.
I saw one go past me in Crewe waaay back, still isn't on there. - megamod, on 06/07/2009, -1/+2they either reverted the video or he switched the mouse for left handed people.
- Nephersir7, on 06/07/2009, -1/+2Meh, they already included that feature a while ago, look at the glitch I found:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q& ...
Just click on the arrow to move forward
Also occurs in the other direction :
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q& ... - chrisduser, on 06/07/2009, -1/+2Enhance, enhance, enhance.
- insidein, on 06/07/2009, -3/+4Why not just go to the Google blog?
http://google-latlong.blogspot.com/2009/06/introdu ... - Teradoc, on 06/07/2009, -1/+16-12 months is a very good time frame. Cedar Rapids, Iowa hasn't been on there for more than a few weeks and when clicking through, 1st Ave in downtown, it was taken appx July/August of 2008. The Dairy Queen west of the River was torn down about September.
- roijen, on 06/07/2009, -1/+1Darn it, I lost Ed. My apologies. I will not rest until I find him.
- Myztry, on 06/07/2009, -2/+2Microsoft's never far behind. Don't know what they do if they didn't have to Google to imitate...
Must be embarrassing for Microsoft having Google release everything first. - ahpro, on 06/07/2009, -1/+1That's really good. The feature of it changing when you go onto a building's side is very impressive.
- guyincognitoo, on 06/07/2009, -1/+1I just want to know why the US has crappy cameras compared to Europe.
- mbivons, on 06/09/2009, -0/+0Constantly pushing the boundry of what a search engine is and should be. I wonder how BING will respond as it matures?
- Gkernel, on 06/08/2009, -0/+0They've also removed some streets here and there. I'll be happy, though, if they are just replacing some of these runs so we can zoom in on the images and actually read signs or addresses, not jpeg mush. Street View is the bee's knees when it works well.
- NoNameWorks, on 06/09/2009, -0/+0and how to prepare them
- lydiasky, on 06/08/2009, -0/+0I'm glad Google's constantly changing and improving their products! Google maps has changed so much since I first used it. Though my friend from Canada says they aren't allowed Street View due to licensing issues. Sad.
- LiquidIse, on 06/07/2009, -2/+1Now in beta.
- lethalpreacher, on 06/07/2009, -3/+1So how man people went to google maps after the video?
- DulcetTone, on 06/07/2009, -3/+1I always find the panning control the opposite of what would be natural. I expect a left-drag to cause me to look left, as I would in any FPS video game. Here, they still rely on the "hand moves the document seen THROUGH the window" model, which appears in very few apps (presumably because people found the other frame of reference more natural).
