- Dokument, on 11/04/2007, -2/+120they should call their retail stores the gspot
- eternal464, on 11/04/2007, -4/+88Maybe some competition would make Apple smarten up with some of the iphone ***** going on.
- piratearggghhh, on 11/03/2007, -2/+78I really don't think it's the phones and their features that is broken with the phone industry - it's those damn contracts, ***** service, and expensive as hell prices and plans. Now if Google fixes that and makes it truly competitive, I'm for them 100%. But a new fancy phone...not too excited.
- ncapone, on 11/03/2007, -1/+64Man, Google wants to change every industry, don't they?
Not that it's a bad thing, cell phone companies suck. - BlackJackJester, on 11/07/2007, -3/+60But..most men wouldn't be able to find it, and women wouldn't tell us where it is.
- inactive, on 11/04/2007, -4/+52Google stock hit 700 today on this news.
- darkhero, on 11/03/2007, -3/+49Can I watch porn on it?
I hope it supports Flash, Windows Media, and Quicktime! - idae, on 11/04/2007, -6/+51i hope google will be able to keep it sexy and appealing.
- krd1979, on 10/31/2007, -1/+30If the plan is cheap or free they can spam me all they want and I really don't care that much what the phone looks like. I say as long as form follows function and it's not to big or too small it will be great.
- carpespasm, on 11/07/2007, -3/+25then google it, it's not that hard to find.
- aywwts4, on 10/31/2007, -2/+23No, it will be plain, white, and deliver the content you need quickly and efficiently with little show or flash. In short, everything I ever wanted.
- inactive, on 10/31/2007, -2/+21Lets hope it isnt as revolutionary like the segway.
- solis365, on 10/31/2007, -1/+17its really nice to be able to check your email without having to whip out a laptop. faster text messaging is useful too. as is giving your phone to someone in the car with you and saying "figure out where we are." they just pop up google maps and bam, instant directions (this also works if youre lost alone, just pull over first ;-) )
im not big on games either but the internet is USEFUL, no matter where you go. and getting it in a package the size of a phone is much more convenient than the size of a laptop. - cakerun, on 10/31/2007, -1/+17If it will significantly lower the cost of your service, is it really too much of a price to pay?
In some situations, that may be useful. [or not.] - RyeBrye, on 10/31/2007, -1/+16I hope it's an unlocked GSM phone. That's really the only way to release an "open" phone.
- charlief, on 10/31/2007, -1/+16still too much speculation... if things do happen, lets hope they learned from everyone else this time.
- Shigglyboo, on 10/31/2007, -17/+30there are other phones besides the iPhone being released? I'd like one with blue buttons that doesn't drop my calls or get weak bluetooth signals. a nice camera that doesn't glitch out would be nice too. all the internet ***** and games seems stupid to me. that's what laptops are for.
- hollowex, on 10/31/2007, -2/+15Welcome to the World of Tomorrow!
- shampoovta, on 10/31/2007, -3/+16Sex is how you get trapped in bad relationships.
- mitrovarr, on 10/31/2007, -1/+13Google is going to face some harsh resistance from the cell phone carriers on this one. The fact is, they make a lot of money for charging for things like ringtones, little games, utilities, etc. that no one would be able to charge for in a million years if consumers had uncontrolled access to their own cell phones. They make more money from those things (and it's basically free money since they cost next to nothing to sell) than they'd make selling network access to Google.
Unless they're planning on putting up their own towers, I don't know how well they'll be able to pull this off. - GawtMilk, on 11/01/2007, -1/+12If it uses ads, it'd be free. That'd be awesome.
- surfing, on 10/31/2007, -2/+12Let's hope for adblock mobile
- BlackJackJester, on 10/31/2007, -2/+12I just really hope we don't see crap like stores sending ads to my phone as I drive by them (knowing my location based on GPS). That would kindof suck.
- Joest23, on 10/31/2007, -3/+12Google is revolutionary with everything they touch. I'm sure this will be no different.
- reddikilowatt, on 10/31/2007, -3/+12No, the world of tomorrow will have ads in your dreams.
- popltree2, on 10/31/2007, -2/+11Will I be able to cut/copy and paste on it? 'cause that would be awesome.
- kenvsryu, on 10/31/2007, -1/+9Please stop driving while looking at your phone.
- warsql, on 10/31/2007, -1/+9I have been considering buying a phone and getting month to month service. This may finally push me over that edge. Still, data plans seem to cost way more than they should.
- t0ny, on 10/31/2007, -1/+9Is it me or does Google rule?
I mean, they care ( at least it looks like it ) about their customers. They dont try to rip us off, and they give us useful good services then as a afterthought they try to make money off of it. - mitrovarr, on 10/31/2007, -1/+8Not really, they've put out a lot of half-assed mostly abandoned projects over the years. Their instant messaging client immediately comes to mind.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/31/2007, -4/+11That's what I thought until I tried using a laptop on a plane, especially when the seat in front of you is in "recline" mode.
I've been eyeing the T-Mobile "Wing" or something else that has Word and a decent thumb-keyboard. Battery life is better than most lappys, too. - iofthestorm, on 10/31/2007, -1/+8Seconding the fact that cell phone companies suck.
- Lemon, on 10/31/2007, -2/+8That's what the "thumbs up" button is for, *****.
- justelite, on 10/31/2007, -5/+11free talk and adsense on the cell phone display. Cool!
- speakingdreams, on 10/31/2007, -1/+7Any alternative/change to the current cell phone hell is welcome by me.
- fuzzmeister, on 10/31/2007, -4/+10WM and Quicktime, definitely. Flash is much harder, though. Most Flash programs rely on knowing where your mouse is, and without a mouse, they wouldn't work very well at all. There is probably a way to solve it, but it wouldn't be easy.
- inactive, on 10/31/2007, -1/+7You don't listen to the news do you. Google plans to participate in the huge 700 mhz auction coming up. :)
- phoomp, on 10/31/2007, -1/+7I just hope Google does more than just reinforce the cellphone industry. The other notable recent entry to the cellphone market only strengthens the status quo.
- aqzman, on 10/31/2007, -1/+7I don't know what to do! I love Google and by the sounds of this phone I'll want one, but my two year cell phone contract is up next month and I'll probably be signing another two year contract. Any advice, Digg?
- iffypop, on 10/31/2007, -1/+7the first line of the article = "someone wrote that someone said that google might talk about..."
blogging has enriched us all.. - jcook793, on 10/31/2007, -1/+7Don't sign the contract? Is that enough advice? Or do. We really don't care. :)
- eternal464, on 10/31/2007, -2/+8theres still plenty wrong with the whole concept if you ask me, i just don't care to listen to any apple fanboys bitch about how great it is anyway.
- psykiv, on 10/31/2007, -1/+6WTF are you smoking? I use Google Maps and Gmail for blackberry's on a daily basis. They both rule!
- jcook793, on 10/31/2007, -1/+6Are you serious? Mobile Gmail is perfect. Google Reader is amazing. Maps is awesome... GOOG-411... Even Picasa and Docs work well.
- hollyminkowski, on 10/31/2007, -1/+6If Google wins the upcoming 700mhz spectrum auction then things could get VERY interesting.
Maybe free web access, free voice and video calls...and the end of the cell industry as we know
and don't love it. - zachshmack, on 11/02/2007, -2/+7Yes, because we all know how the stock market likes to round to one significant digit.
- inactive, on 10/31/2007, -1/+6In the rest of the world where phone co's don't cripple feature of phones, anyone is free to install any ringtone, background etc they choose. yet they still make massive profits.
It really shouldn't be a problem. and if it is; the telco's should wisen their asses up and see that their antics are keeping you guys in the cellphone dark ages - XXXXXXXXXXXXXX, on 10/31/2007, -2/+6first step to world domination
- carpespasm, on 10/31/2007, -1/+5probably just leaving the pointer where it was last moved to until you touch somewhere else? I'd say flash being a CPU/memory hog would be more of a problem
- morcheeba, on 10/31/2007, -2/+6Exactly. I was out on my motorcycle and a frantic soccer mom was asking directions to a school (literal soccer mom - kid was dressed up to play!). I had no idea where it was, but I whipped out my iphone, found it, and showed her the exact map. I don't usually carry a laptop when I'm on my bike... but I'll always have my phone.
