- jasper976, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36***** stuff is dug all the time, this article for example
- drpeppper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29Meh if its a good article go ahead and spam.
***** stuff doesn't get dugg (most of the time) and doesn't receive generate links. - WillSpencer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30Perhaps Digg should publish an article recommending that Digg users spam Google? ;)
- RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12This article is, in-itself, and example of such spam.
I also like how this guy has ads for several different text-link sales services on his blog. - webtickle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Those SEO people better not spam Digg. Digg is a place for news, not a place to build links!
- angrycommenter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12This is the dumbest story ever submitted to Digg.com. I feel like slicing off my nipples and pasting them to the forehead of the jackass responsible for placing this crap in front of my beloved Digg community. Another SEO website? Go make your money somewhere else, you moneygrubbing douchecanoe.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I'm guessing Google is just paying lip service. If you try to do a surf-by-SPAMMING on Digg, the community buries it. If it's truly interesting then it'll be dugg (with a few weird exceptions)
- smhill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8You are being sarcastic, right?
- swooshonln, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7You mean that people haven't been doing this already to promote there own personal sites/blogs? It wont change much I'm sure.
- Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6There was a disturbance in the Force, as if a million people cried out all at once...
- smhill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You get a thumbs up for "douchecanoe".
- ulyssesyt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm still amazed by readers who actually think Digg isn't being used in a systematic way to promote sites and make money.
recognize that most of what you see on the front page is there for financial and marketing reasons, or keep thinking that it's warm-and-fuzzy "social networking"--your choice.
why did you think Digg is being valued so highly for purchase? - AndroidIQ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"douchecanoe"
I just wanted to say that.
"douchecanoe"
Yep, still funny. - mpancha, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Inaccurate >> Google didn't say to use Digg for link building. Read the article you submitted .... sheesh. Marked as inaccurate... too bad I can't also mark as lame.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think there is a huge difference between SEO Spam and people using Digg as a tool to promote "Useful" articles.
SEO Spam is just crap. Webmasters who build websites on SEO are simply webspam aimed not at informing and being a service to those online, but to build profit. They give a crap about their users and the overall welfare of the net and only about themselves.
I've seen TONS of personal websites/blogs advertising articles here and the majority I've seen have been really neat, useful or just "cool" things...
thats what Digg is about..sharing and serving the lesser known sites and information that you just wont find via the mainstream sites generally. (e.g., an article in my local papers website may not make cnn.com, but would still be found "diggity" by the masses here).
True spam is easily spotted though... and generally is ignored. - DRTED, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2nintendo wii
- letaalio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't really care if someone promotes his site if he is posting something interesting.. That's the beauty of Digg - the stuff which is boring or full of spam won't get to the front page. Having said that, I think there is room for improvement in the Digg front-page-story-algorithm.
- mutatron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Is it okay to wear an asshat with a douchecanoe after Labor Day?
- cmdrNacho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2this guy is a douchecanoe douching in a freaking river of douche. How the hell does crap like this make it to the front page.
- PDelahanty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Unfortunately, Google will rank Digg links the same and it doesn't matter if something is on the home page or if it just has 1 digg. This means that spammers will submit tons of crap that never gets dugg...and where people don't bother to bury it either. It's going to be a lot harder to find the good links among all the crap.
- mutatron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was thinking about doing this for one of my websites, but I've seen stuff like that before and felt it was in bad taste. It seems like it's okay if someone does it about a company they aren't directly involved with. Or maybe I only _thought_ they weren't spamming?
Anyway, I've found links on digg to a couple of product sites I wouldn't otherwise have found. So maybe I should go ahead and give mine a shot. As drpeppper pointed out, it won't get dugg up anyway if people aren't interested. So where's the harm? There's a lot of non-spam crap that never makes it to the front page anyway. - noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Meaningful articles that you have written yourself is probably what they mean. They didn't say start a blog, link to a cnn story from 1994 and post it under seven names.
Digg is a very effecting way to get search engine rank if you have content people care about.
@mpancha, let me take care of the lame mark. - dattaway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There used to be a time when commercial interests were forbidden on the internet. And spam was a luncheon meat.
- everfresh59, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The internet is one giant enlarged SPAM, and if you think about it, who doesn't like to eat their eggs with some spam!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Welcome to the commerce-driven Internet digg users!
- floodyberry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It looks like bs3arch was already on this hot bandwagon a year ago with all his spam submissions from www.searchenginejournal.com. Almost none of them hit the front page though, he must not have had fatmike, zaibatsu or webtickle as friends back then.
- BigKitty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There wasn't much of an Internet back then, though.
- bs3arch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's a form of reputation building. If a representtive of IloveDoucheCanoes.com answers every douchecanoe question they can in a meaningful manner, then they are going to build the positive reputation of that company amongst Yahoo users.
- freff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1FTA: "Another example [of how to generate links] is to earn a reputation in a certain field by building an authority through services such as http://answers.yahoo.com."
Seriously? Do yahoo answers help promote your site? I'm not sure about that one... - mohn11, on 08/20/2009, -0/+1It is good information, but i think Google never say use Digg for link building
- CaptShmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1if this ever happened, i think digg would just restrict new digg entries to manual submission (no more digg this buttons) and maybe place limits on the amount of stories you could post a day, i think that would mediate some of the adverse effects.
- freff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I did a whois on IloveDoucheCanoes.com. Just so everyone knows, amazingly enough, it's still available. Go figure.
- kalmi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg should ban Google Bot. :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well, in theory, that might work, but in practice, spammers are, sadly... much more adept at spamming than websites are at stopping it. (on my website as an example, I had to disable anonymous comments, posting..etc.. because of spammers. pisses me off big time)
limiting the amount of links people post on digg each day will simply inconvienience the good..the bad will make 40 accounts. - ClinicalService, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1For Crawling your site very fast you can use digg
link building for that site that has not more competetive keywords.
Thanks
http://www.skonlinesolutions.com - Nanobe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Google doesn't appear to treat all links on digg as equal. There have been a few digg submissions for various things on my site and I noticed no major boost on Google. But when one went front page on digg, that article was quickly on the front page of Google results. That was after the article had already existed for a while and digg was the only new noteworthy site that linked to it at the time.
- davidshq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought the article was good and I think that the suggestions were good. Digg users can block the spammy content, as has always been done and promote the good stuff. Perhaps eventually Google will even take Digg ranking into their page ranking. Anyways, people will always try to make money off the internet (heck, I do), the question is whether they provide any valuable original content in the process.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1relax, Digg's database only goes back a few months. What this means is that the link from digg only lasts as long as the article is in diggs database. If a story is not headlined, it gets removed after a month, and when google does its rounds - it will soon find that this site no longer has a link from digg and it will demerit a value - which will take out its pagerank.
Splogs will find no real value in getting their pages here, because angry users will (or should) report the blogs/adsense ad sites when they see it. - LecherousVenom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And it's "douchecanoe" for the win.
F**k you, submitter. - tastethevenom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great, now here comes the surge in interest for Pay Per Digg...
- dlinkers, on 01/29/2009, -0/+0I consider Digg as source of Information not source of building links.
I hope everyone are aware.. - teekymaster, on 04/07/2009, -0/+0Yes, i second on you. Digg should be used to get popular and show what you got? and not for link building. Also, i don't think that PR is much important in SEO. If you are an advertiser then PR is important for you coz due to high PR people may get attracted towards you. But if you are running a site for making money via affiliates then you should focus on traffic.
- servicingyou, on 06/12/2009, -0/+0good information.
http://www.webmarketingexperts.com.au/ - dinalleno, on 06/05/2008, -0/+0Article isn't spamming because it was created with purpose. I don't think digg will allow the spammers without being notice.
- edm2001, on 01/17/2009, -0/+0Digg is a popular link building and indexing solution for new sites.
http://digg.com/tech_news/State_sues_Web_SEO_firm_ ... - nbcivic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When they do post more articles, all we'll do is jam their bandwidth. Even the duggmirros can't keep up anymore.
- stickaffgoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1really good stuff to know... though in some ways we always knew that writing for your audience always pays dividends.
- stevemathew02, on 08/25/2008, -0/+0Good post!
- teslat, on 10/17/2008, -0/+0Good job!
this can help you to make a link build
