- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+62Who's Stephan Colbert? Is he Stephen Colbert's relative? Let's stop the bastard who stole his thunder with some counter SEO tricks.
- omarciddo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+39You name me an American greater than Stephen Colbert!
- armynixon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+34In my gut, Colbert is the greatest American, and that's all I need to know.
- happyhappyhappy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25fkr3 - obviously he is not the greatest living American. That is the joke. Get it?
- JasonCox, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27This next wag of my finger goes to Google...
- MattCutts, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22It's not a manual change; it's just a fresh push of our Googlebomb data. The algorithm doesn't run every day.
- Callidus, on 10/12/2007, -20/+39Stephan Colbert eh? Who is he?
- Kakou, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Who the hell is brandon wirtz?
possibly the Worst Living American for beating out Stephen Colbert. His self-sacrifice may make him the Greatest Dead American, but there's a chance that his non-sacrifice may make him continue his worstness into the grave. - Lister169, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10"It's not easy being green." - Kermit the Frog
Truer words have never been spoken. Kermit the Frog is the Greatest Felt American. - EndersGame, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8He is a funny guy and I like his show, but I definitely enjoy The Daily Show a bit more. In fact I think Stephen Colbert was funnier when he appeared on TDS. Either way he is good at what he does.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6fkr3 you are an imbecile
- Jessejb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Stop lying to me!!!
Where's your truthiness? - spartacus51, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4He is an actor, but also a writer.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0170306/#writer
I would imagine he also wrote his correspondents dinner bit, as it'd be in poor taste to use someone else's material at something like that. - spartacus51, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7"The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his." -Patton
Besides that I'm so sick of the quasi patriotism that goes around today. I don't think there's anyone in the army today 'selflessly dying for their country.' Maybe a couple, but from someone who knows two dozen people who have been in the armed services in the past 5 years, including 3 very good friends, every one of them did it for their own selfish reasons. Besides that it's a difficult argument that anyone dying in today's army is doing so for their country. It would seem to me that we're dying for OTHER people's countries these days.
Oh, and how could someone who died for their country be the greatest LIVING American? - happyhappyhappy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8"what makes Colbert greater than say, firemen who risk their lives to save others for crappy pay?"
Um, you do know this is a joke, right? - omarciddo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3...and that brings us to tonight's word.
PSEUDO-ACCOMPLISHMENT - AMSRay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Maybe Viacom should have left his clips on YouTube. I love watching his show, but it'd be nice to see them suffer for being so ignorant.
- VanD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hopefully Stephen will make note of this on an upcoming episode
- crweaks23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3fkr3... you obviously have absolutely no idea who Colbert is and possibly have never even watched the show. Why do you even bother to comment with an unfounded opinion on something you know nothing about??
- marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hm... you're actually a Google employee. Thanks for the semi official info.
- omarciddo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6...wrong comment thread, digg down.
- Ajajadude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I dunno, Google has never spoken to me before, let alone told me anything about Colbert no longer being the greatest.
Maybe I don't drink enough. - Abudiwa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2you don't get it, do you?
- Gzero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Instead, the top results are filled with entries about making Stephen the greatest living american or about him being it.
- MrTimmay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What, fkr3 said something stupid.. again? Oh, that's why I blocked him... never anything intelligent or positive to add.
re: mike - 'First W gets kicked off his #1 spot, now Stephen? Google, you are a fickle girl.'
as for that... well, the top results for 'Miserable Failure' still refer to W - holycrapitsed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2So Google gave Stephen Colbert a handjob, eh?
- slapthemonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yeah, must be one step ahead.
- cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Blasphemy!
http://www.cafepress.com/colbert08hq - jaadfoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2THE GREATEST AMERICANS LEAD BY EXAMPLE.....
Now get to it. - fiver22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1stephan.
- thisniss, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0in case you're still wondering, this is "Stephan Colbert": http://www.wikiality.com/Stephan_Colbert. But yes, STEPHEN Colbert is the Greatest Living American, regardless of what Google may think!
- spencewah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Who's not honoring him now?
- sensibledriver, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The dude that sell Mr. Goodwrench services and gets all of his lines from writers? What little imagination we have left, America.
- laserdog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I don't know, MS has put an awful lot of time and money into making MSN the worse...
- enemyspaceship, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1As of 1:03 a.m. Northwestern time, US (pacific NW or what ever they call it GMT+somenumberhere)
- schmitey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I also think, and Colbert would agree, that if Sam Brownback was elected president he would be the greatest living American. A conservative Catholic (unlike Kerry...sorry but pro-choice doesn't cut it)...yeah, Colbert would go crazy for good reason!
- diargasm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Maybe because of Viacom and their lawsuit against Google? Youtube made Colbert great, maybe now they are turning the tables against him.
- stalky14, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He did it by making the other guy die for his."
(or something like that)
(edit: beat me to it. Damn.) - Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1We need to get Google up to #1 for "worst search engine".
- angstd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Great Living American, or Greatest living American?
- bwizard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1If we all keeping searching for him as the greatest living american will it not post it the top again?
- AmericanEmpire, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1STEPHEN COLBERT, IN OUR BOOK, IS NOT ONLY THE GREATEST AMERICAN LIVING, BUT ALSO THE GREAT AMERICAN THERE EVER WAS.
/Just joking......
But seriously he is one funny guy. Hands down.... - etnu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1If they selflessly die for their country, they can't exactly qualify as "greatest living American", now can they?
- enemyspaceship, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0On a google search for "greatest american living" ColbertNation.com" still ranks number one
pwnt?
Probably not but who searches for that anyways? - LavaHot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2pfft, Colbert and friends are way over-rated. Why would google manually remove him? What would they have to gain, even if they were to go against their hypocratic oath?
- TonksKC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This is blasphemy! This is madness!
...Seriously, though, this article depresses me. Stephan Colbert is my hero :( - mikew101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1It does mean something to them. It means that anyone with a tv show or even a decent online following will be able to manipulate the search results for keyphrases. Google doesn't want people to do this so that others will get the same idea, and apply it to business.
It makes google look stupid when all it takes is one person asking for a lot of links with a certain keyphrase. - christopheles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! He is.
