I think you are underestimating the number to running enthusiasts who are geeks. The majority of my graduating class of software engineers all ran/biked/Rollerblade etc. I agree this might be inaccessible to some, but I think enough geeks will get a kick out of it that one of them will fix the installer up for a less technically inclined running partner. - ShaunJordan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I won't use it, but pretty damn cool!
+digg - a1programmer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0SportTracks (http://www.zonefivesoftware.com/SportTracks/) is some great free software that does this.
- Thujone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ambiguous title...
- periwinkle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I had to write a set of bash/perl scripts to do this. Not very clean. This actually looks pretty nice. Those garmins rock.

What is Bumpr?
Bumpr is a free service storing track logs from your GPS device and rendering those track logs as time-based Google Maps for you to share. - ProfHognutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm more than geeky enough to handle this and I have a forerunner 201 which is one of my favorite toys. I run. Outside.
- drtage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can track your miles for cycling, running, etc at FitnessJournal.org (http://www.fitnessjournal.org ) and keep a running tally of how far you have travelled across the US. You can also share your data with others and taunt your friends. its pretty cool.
- Guyute, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0or you could plan ahead

this works with google maps to give you running distances.
i've been thinking about hacking something up,
and like most things, someone's already done it.
it's great.
http://www.favoriterun.com/ - MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thats a cool idea.
- tbone2day, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Do you need a web server, or is there a client application for this?
- SpacemanSpiff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/
- HowNowCowBrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Another view of this, incorporated in a weblog. http://docawe.blogspot.com/
- gooru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome! There's finally a geeky incentive to get me off my butt!
- swoper101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.motionbased.com suits me just fine
- dwb75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can check out this site as well, http://upload.runoutside.com These guys support the 201, 301 and the timex watch.
- Boris008, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh yea, this is great idea...if you want to be stalked by someone. I wonder if you can upload them to MySpace?
- dendrimer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0pretty cool, too bad it will quickly turn into a stalker tool.
- Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
I hope single women do not post their jogs onto their own (public) websites... Maybe Google should put a disclaimer on it so nobody in the media tags it as the "Google Rape" tracker...
I mean, this is about as lame as someone uploading their child's whereabouts to a public webpage based upon GPS logs on some of those child locator products. - lightcycler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For the Collaborative Mapping version of this, try openstreetmap.org (takes everyone's logs, and makes a free map out of them)
- yeehawjared, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.zonefivesoftware.com/SportTracks/Demo/ScreenShots1.html
SportTracks is really good software like someone said above. this link works - seventoes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Man... that title made me think google gave in to the FBI's search log request.... you need to be clearer.
- Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love how people are calling this geeky, when it's been done for years by people who are familiar with packet radio and APRS... well, minus the google map, but on a map none the less.
My question is what GPS units reliably catch the GPS signal while you're bouncing all over the place? All my GPS units need to be at least oriented in one general direction (i.e, held out in front of you, or on the dashboard) due to the patch antenna they utilize - blueorder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@ tbone2day
yes - iriemanhq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0this little app/hack/mashup is geekness at it's finest- however, the install is probably a little to complicated for the typical runner enthusiast, and the average geek probably says "run? u mean go outside?" (IMO). i don't run, i ride a bike. i'll prob. try it out.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Dont understand?
