- varchar255, on 02/26/2009, -1/+23Good to see Google following through on their promise to make things more transparent.
- masterc, on 02/26/2009, -0/+20Skip the blog spam: http://www.google.com/appsstatus

- Zippo, on 02/26/2009, -1/+11Hey, at least they're willing to provide tools like this. You damn well know Microsoft has never apologized for any outages Hotmail (or any other of their online products) has had over the years.
- Solkre, on 02/26/2009, -3/+13I don't see a green check mark, is it working?
- noisician, on 02/26/2009, -0/+8outages are inevitable. plan for them.
- Baryn, on 02/26/2009, -0/+8What if I need to view the status of the App Status Dashboard?!!
- Zippo, on 02/26/2009, -0/+7Except for the fact that Google is a business providing a service, not a favour... not to mention Google Apps is a business suite... one companies pay for.
Same goes for Hotmail... for some bizarre reason, some people pay for extra Hotmail service. - falafelkiosken, on 02/26/2009, -0/+7function is_gmail_up()
{
return is_gmail_up();
} - agildehaus, on 02/26/2009, -0/+7There's ads. They're not being nice and giving everybody free email. If they make money off us, we should expect good service in return.
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -4/+10And they shouldn't have to.
Apologies are nice, but Hotmail and Gmail are free services. It's like yelling at your mom for making you a sandwich, and then delivering it to your basement free of charge. - AgentBarcode, on 02/26/2009, -1/+6Gfail? This coming from Failcrunch? Please.

- Pseudorious, on 02/26/2009, -3/+7Sorry, once bitten, twice shy: it's carrier pigeons for me from here on in.
- inactive, on 02/27/2009, -0/+3It's like Googling Google.
- Baryn, on 02/26/2009, -1/+4FAIL
- KibibyteBrain, on 02/26/2009, -1/+4Well, part of it is I think the absurdly good reputation Google has on the Internet along with the general enthusiasm for the company results in a balance of very high expectations of its products. No one cares when Hotmail goes down because the Internet at large doesn't have the same sort of care for that product in general as gmail.
- lovemorgul, on 02/26/2009, -1/+4good about responding to down time with blog posts alerting users with status updates.
- Nephersir7, on 02/26/2009, -1/+3Here is the report on the outage

- KipBond, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2Some people pay to use Google's Premium "Google Apps" service. It's good to know if Google is working on fixing a problem you are experiencing.
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -3/+5The shutdown of Gmail was planned all along. It was an excuse to launch this product and make publicity arond it.
- BrentL, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2An RSS feed will be nice. Right now it points to Google.com
- lornefs, on 02/26/2009, -0/+2Yeah or maybe it was ;

/s - flashcat7777, on 02/26/2009, -2/+3It's nice that they give more details than "OHAI we has found bugz they be fix'd shortly... [later] kthx it's better."

Is that a service or is it the _actual_ Google control panel? - ydt89, on 02/26/2009, -1/+1Speaking of Google being down.. Can't seem to access it right now. Not even the search -.-;;
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -2/+1People aren't tired of using "fail" everywhere?
- AnotherDiggGuy, on 02/26/2009, -7/+3Google's 2 biggest services fail within a month's time?
I think Al-Qaeda is hacking the internet. - alconebay, on 02/26/2009, -5/+1There is no possible way Google could come out with an app that fast. Maybe another company, but not Google.
- FireSlash, on 02/26/2009, -9/+2function is_gmail_up()
{
return true;
} - raustin, on 02/26/2009, -11/+3Sounds like Google is expecting more trouble down the road?
