- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Ok - the comments thing - there is a thing right under where it says "comments" that says "Comment View Threshold". This is defaulted to 0=Neutral - that means you won't see any comments with a negative rating. (See the little "Rate Comment" thing in everyone's comment. The higher the number, the less comments you'll see. There may be 50 million comments, but you'll only see the ones that diggers have rated as high as, or higher than the number in your threshold.
If you want to see *all* comments, you have to put the threshold to -3
Plus, you can rate other people's comments, to help filter out spam, and to attack those with whom you don't agree. >:-) - keane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"OK a little confused... When users click the button i thought it was supposed to download firefox? So instead, users have to already have firefox and then install the google toolbar?"
If you are using Firefox, it detects that and sends you to the page to download just the toolbar. If you set the Firefox's user agent switcher to IE (or open the page in IE) it will take you to a page that says 'Download Firefox with Google Toolbar'. - Daedalus42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That is completely awesome... a full-frontal attack on everyone else's favorite Mega-corporation....
However, I wonder what this means for Google's own browser, or the take-over future of the Mozilla Corp. - redkore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yikes! Google is super creepy!
- aerius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1AcronymFinder.com has one of these buttons as well.
- maddog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1about the comments,
aerospace, I think there were 8 comments, but maybe they were just flames, or spam, they are removed but the comment counter still shows them.
I'm not 100% sure though - computerjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn it, US only!
- Linuxrocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm going to download it 50 billion times
- Kizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They should give me a few hundred bucks :D
- computerjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How do I get Firefox button thing?

- kingkool68, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OK a little confused... When users click the button i thought it was supposed to download firefox? So instead, users have to already have firefox and then install the google toolbar?
- stansky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sweet.
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Gimpshop, all the top comments in ALL the recent news stories have disappeared.
- donKey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't see the firefox opiton, only adsense.
- calvin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah i noticed that count error too. Weird. It says there is 15 when there is 8.
- gilfil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Any idea about it will be available for publishers from outside US ??
- aerospace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sorry this isn't more post related, but is anyone else seeing the comment counter having a higher count than actual comments? first it said 8 comments and upon trying to view them, there were none. now i see one comment but the counter says 9. i've refreshed a few times before leaving the comment.
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I predict that Digg is going to use these some time soon.
- computerjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yep - same here aerospace
- GunsGoBang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's so cool. I wish that I still used AdSense and had a website now!
- nibble128, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I despise bundling software most people don't want with software people do want... give the links if you want to advertise! don't shove it down our throats by including it! first adobe reader with the yahoo toolbar, and aim with its, and msn........... all these toolbars aren't always the easiest to remove for normal users... I don't know, if you have a good product, people will choose to use it, but if you make them... well you are as bad as Microsoft
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oops, Maybe I am wrong. I just found that to really get the dollar, you need to have Google Tool Bar installed in your Firefox. Just having Google Tool Bar in , say, IE and then also having Firefox (w/o the GTB installed) doesnt get you the mula.
My first instinct was soley based on the digger's Explanation of the digg.
Sorry, probably bad digging on my part. I guess that is what the digg really stands for: Do the digging, so we don't have to find the link oourselves.
Very diggable, really. - ArtVandelay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Careful with the wording. It says it pays "up to $1"
- ThankTheCheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0brilliant. Hopefully this is the last nail in the coffin for Internet Explorer.
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 kingkool68
Ah.....no. You muat already have the google toolbar, then download firefox in order to get the dollar.
According to the instructions on Google, you dont get the dollar if you do the "download with" option.
If I am wrong, pls neg my comment. - silentvirus, on 10/25/2008, -0/+0they should like pay everyone 25-50 cents to download firefox...that would rele get it out
- ahsan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WOW! Google is now becoming a software distribution channel. Just think about what this can do to the monopoly in Redmond. Referrals to openoffice can surely make a dent in Microsoft cash cow.
- jersey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love it, but it's too bad the buttons suck. None of those work on my site(s)
-j - BenStockwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What's the point of the Google toolbar? Firefox already has a built in search box.
- luke--, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0awesome
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is the main reason Mozilla made their For Profit branch. They made $12m US from the google search bar built in to firefox. Yeah, mozilla gets $ if you use that little search bar.
Kinda nifty, isn't it?
Oh, that's how Opera is able to make their browser free now, too. - Tech_Junkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If Microsoft did this with IE all the google bots "would say this sucks, what the hell is Microsoft doing. LOL Google Bots = following blindly
- epkphoto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a great opportunity, but I am quite frustrated with Google that this only counts when a Windows user installs Firefox with the Google toolbar. No such luck if you successfully convert a Mac user or another OS user: "A Firefox referral is counted when a Windows user, who has not previously installed Firefox, downloads and runs the program for the first time." What makes this Windows specific? The Firefox Google toolbar is a cross platform extension, so it would make sense to me that this opportunity should apply to all operating systems. Come on Google!
- Vortech89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For some reason I'm not able to log in to Google Adsense.
- kingkool68, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Thanks for the explanation Keane!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0that's so ***** awesome... once i finish my website, i will be a millionaire!!!
- jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0gimpshop, that isn't the problem.
Digg is showing 26 comments for me right now, but even with the threshold set to -3, I can only count 18. - Arizona_Glover, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Its just a shame that everyone visiting http://paulsbaker.blogspot.com/ already uses firefox.
oh will at least it looks tidy. - sixkorn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The Moziila foundation makes a lot of money off the Google search built into FireFox. Every time someone uses it then clicks an add generated from the search, they get paid. If google pushed the google toolbar, they would save money. Pay $1 now and save thousands later.
- aerospace, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0gimpshop,
i tried changing the threshold to -3, but the count is still 8 off. thanks for pointing that feature out though, i hadn't noticed it before. - jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Its too bad Google Toolbar isn't all that great.
- NerveBand, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0but i still wish they would push opera more than firefox...at least opera is hella stable.

What is Digg?
