- SuperMoonMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The article made it clear that that was just a prediction. I gotta retract that Digg of mine.
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8To undigg stories, go to your user profile (top left of page) find the story and look for the undigg link just below it.
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Whoops, prediction? Undugg.
- MrDiaz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4one thing I forgot to mention....Linux based :D
- cfizzo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3keep in mind this is only speculative
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2MrDiaz. It's just a prediction from next year based on some guys opinion. You've listed it as fact when it's clrearly not.
- groverallnight, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"The article is complete speculation, it's sad that sensationalist tripe like this gets to the front page but good articles get blinked out of existence."
That's because digg is made up primarily of people who digg stories based on their titles and aren't the least bit interested in RTFA. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why/how did this get back to the front page?
- shamanking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1stupid not even true
- shannonxj, on 12/26/2007, -0/+1COOL! A google PC? and Walmart? goota check that one out at http://www.rollingpricesback.com
- krum0786, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3First off this is pure speculation and second its too early for Google to come out with a PC without first releasing an Office Suite
- wirah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hasn't happened yet (23/10/06)
- Handcannons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1***************************
The machine would run an operating system created by Google, not Microsoft's Windows, which is one reason it would be so cheap — perhaps as little as a couple of hundred dollars
***************************
Big deal. Frys has been selling PCs running a Linux variant for under $200 for over a year, they put them on sale every couple of weeks for $169, probably less for their New Years sales. - NerveBand, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@theone3
Thanks for the undigg tip. damn speculation. Don't get me hyped up that easily! - chair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I'm surprised that enough people were watching in the Digg Spy to find this story after it was buried."
Yeah I was watching too. I'm glad it's back. 400 people dugg it and a few idiots decided they didn't like it so no one else should see it. It's not a fantastic article, it's just a bit of speculation from a reputable publication based on information from industry insiders, but it's not "lame". - theone3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this
- Philodox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The article is complete speculation, it's sad that sensationalist tripe like this gets to the front page but good articles get blinked out of existence.
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1is bs.
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thenikola's link said "Google, Microsoft, Sun Join Forces to Set up R&D Lab"
Microsoft? Ehhhh.. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Google goes up against microsoft, again"
thats all people read to warrent this 600+ diggs.
w00t, im the 100th commenter - salweem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Will Google release a very cheap computing platform? Will the Red Sox win the pennant? Come on, this is just rampant speculation without a threat of fact of substantiation. No digg."
@wilf_brim
Didn't they win the world series, you can prove me wrong i don't watch sports so. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0google OS??? maybe
http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/software/google-os--123473.php
Google pc could look like their server boxes
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3759878.stm
looks like a big hunk of cheese to me.
I dont know but with their partnership with openoffice and experience with linux i can see a google pc and why not walmart sells lindows er i mean linspire - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0diggen NEWS batman!!!
- clevershark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The big problem I have with this rumor is that the internet appliance would have to be powered by Linux or BSD, and that all of the Google desktop apps released to date are exclusively made for Windows. It's hard to think that Google would release an internet appliance that was unable to use its own tools.
- ericvdb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Someone remind me why this isn't news? A reputable source is reporting this...not some guy with a blog. They admit to a certain amount of speculation, but they have some source admiting to discussion with walmart, so I say it's still valid. Seems a little early to me for google to throw this out there....but who knows. If it was Dvorak blogging on this I'm sure it would be treated differently.
- davinci2k1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0SuperMoonMan has it right; it's a prediction, a fictional gaze "into the looking glass"
Sheez, read before you Digg.
no digg. - audiocollective, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Google has been in negotiations with Wal-Mart Stores Inc., among other retailers, to sell a Google PC." I thought Google was not supposed to be evil? Wal-Mart is one of the most evil companies around.
- lightningrod220, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This isn't very likely, as Google tends to aim more in the direction of software (sort of like Microsoft), so they'll most likely do the rumored Office suite first, if they do anything like this at all.
They've been buying everything they could get their hands on lately, so they'll need to slow down soon. - wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Will Google release a very cheap computing platform? Will the Red Sox win the pennant? Come on, this is just rampant speculation without a threat of fact of substantiation. No digg.
- WizzleFish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bet Google will make a Pc, but I don't think it's going to get out in a couple of months - most likely, it will be white with the Google logo all over it - I'd expect it to be something like the mac mini - no keyboard, monitor, or mouse, you have to get all that yourself.
- thenikola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought I remembered reading that google hired engineers to "research" operating systems about a year ago... also to me it seems pretty plausible that it would be a Solaris-esque operating system because of this:
http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=13011
But then again, this is also just speculation, I just think everyone is throwing the idea out too quickly.
When you consider that sun microsystems and google could be teaming up anything is possible because Sun has extensive work already put into pretty much every area from office suites to operating systems.... Criticism anyone? - Wedgieman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hate to say it guys, but Wehatetech said this was going to happen a few months ago.
http://www.wehatetech.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=189&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0 - dcipjr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pure speculation. No digg.
- Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Walmart? barf.
- sabster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And now begins the more fast paced defeat of microsoft.. muahah
- StephnDolenc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Hopefully its as good as the AOL pc!" haha
- Deep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I had posted the same thing 19 days back and no one cared to digg..
http://digg.com/technology/Google_to_launch_to_PCs
and this one for 920 diggs in 1 hr haha
Deep - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0id be cool if they released it with their signature sneaky style
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0more like a aol low priced pc with the google name stamped on it and some google features built in to it.
- staticten, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah right!!!!
would any of you guys even buy this!!
WALMART!! PLEASE!
i'm sure you're PCs are a century ahead in terms of technology.
my gardener would buy this......and that's as good thing. I believe every human being should have one by now. - NiLeS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Doubt it'll happen...
but if it does, I can say I knew that already! - bcnewman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@shiftt - LMAO!!! Too funny...
- NidStyles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wouldn't touch it with your floppy apendage, what makes you think I'd want one?
Like it was already stated, I'll stick to OS X. - wwwdeveloper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google does already have flavors of THEIR OWN operating systems that they have built in house and use in their server farms. Do you think that they are using an Xserve, Windows, or Redhat??
They have had their own OS for a long time now. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good??? Please let me have my doubts..
Google teaming up with Wal-Mart, now this is scary. - bejitunksu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Misleading title... but dugg for the article
- Jerivix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This "prediction" isn't too much more than a weak rehashing of Bob Cringely's speculation on a "Google Box." Take a look here: http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/pulpit20051124.html
- XStatic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Too bad Yahoo made the latest deals with TiVo instead of Google. It would have been nice to get some TiVo capabilites (transfer, storage, etc.)
- diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll stick with OS X, thanks
- teh_toaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm surprised that enough people were watching in the Digg Spy to find this story after it was buried.
