I love Google and Google loves me. - Fabbyfubz, on 01/25/2009, -0/+43In other boring news, I just had a bag of Fritos
- bradharrelson, on 01/25/2009, -6/+41***** happens often on map sites. Buried.
- jake1337, on 01/25/2009, -1/+31It could be worse...It could redirect you to Jersey
- inactive, on 01/25/2009, -2/+26I'm happy google has enough taste to keep people out of Staten Island. Hellhole that it is.
Even as an Italian I can't stand Staten Island. - Legacy23x, on 01/25/2009, -1/+20Dugg for sending people to my ***** city.
- IphtashuFitz, on 01/25/2009, -0/+13After spending 4 years in Schenectady for college I'd much rather have spent it in Staten Island. At least Staten Island is a stones throw from Manhattan, etc. All you get in Schenectady is Albany, Rensselaer, and Troy.
- mikeas, on 01/25/2009, -1/+13Still better than a TomTom. Bastard tried to take me through a snow covered path in a state park over a mountain on my way to Snowshoe, WV.
- immatellyouwhat, on 01/25/2009, -0/+12Hey they have a 12345 zip code!
- inactive, on 01/25/2009, -0/+10whoa
- namelessXsilent, on 01/25/2009, -0/+10Dugg for keeping people out of my ***** city
- Ragzouken, on 01/25/2009, -0/+10That's was pretty exciting compared to this story, actually.
- roxgod666, on 01/25/2009, -0/+8When the clouds turn black, the sky turns gray, and the sun hides for dear life...you know you're in Jersey.
- jake1337, on 01/25/2009, -2/+10True that, DOUBLE TRUE
- BradOFarrell, on 01/25/2009, -0/+8It's okay, no one was using Google Maps to get to Staten Island.

- inactive, on 01/25/2009, -0/+7wow, you're a vulgar one aren't ya?
- nebloof, on 01/25/2009, -0/+7I don't ever rely on just ONE map site. So I compare with google maps, yahoo maps, and sometimes mapquest if things don't make sense. I only had to compare once with all three, and that was because I had a job interview (turned out to be a classified site apparently), and google maps placed the site 40 miles from where it actually was. Yahoo maps was a lot closer, but I had to call a representative to get accurate driving directions.
- earlvanze, on 01/25/2009, -0/+7Yes they do, the GE Headquarters. Every year they get mail from children asking Santa for presents.
- PGPirate, on 01/25/2009, -2/+9How do you accidentally a NYC neighborhood?
- cutlerchris, on 01/25/2009, -0/+7We have always been at war with EastAsia.
War Is Peace.
Staten Island Is Schenectady. - marmol, on 01/25/2009, -1/+7oh yeah, i'm pretty sure everyone remembers when that happened.
- TWiThead, on 01/25/2009, -0/+6My roommate's TomTom sent us to the wrong town (roughly the correct distance from our apartment, but in an incorrect direction). When we slowed down to look for the invisible business that it claimed we'd reached, we were stopped by a cop on suspicion of drunk driving. It was a huge inconvenience (and the reason why I'm glad to have purchased a Garmin).
- Vidalsassgirlie, on 01/25/2009, -4/+10But I thought Google Maps was the best
- 12916studios, on 01/25/2009, -0/+5That made me spray Pepsi from my nose. Not a great feeling, no matter how amusing your comment was.
- LoveWidescreen, on 01/25/2009, -2/+7This is not unique to Google. Does anyone remember when MSN **really** screwed up going from Haugesund (Norway) to Trondheim (also in Norway) by going through the UK, France, and Germany?
http://blogs.sun.com/kevin/entry/microsoft_map_bug - inactive, on 01/25/2009, -0/+5Schenectady is bad? Go to Utica.
- pintocat, on 01/25/2009, -0/+5There is a world outside of NYC. I don't really care about NYC.
- inactive, on 01/25/2009, -1/+6poor upstate ny :(
- kouchan21, on 01/25/2009, -0/+5I don't care
- LumberingOaf, on 01/25/2009, -0/+5Agreed. A lot of my family still lives in Utica. Good pizza, bad everything else.
- danthek54, on 01/25/2009, -0/+5No Google is doing the world a favor by 'accidentally' leading people away from that extention of Jersey. Anyone who's been to Staten Island knows its not part of NYC

oh moay gawd! - EricAugu, on 01/25/2009, -0/+5Stuff like this is bound to happen when the governor of your state is blind.
- rikuansem13, on 01/25/2009, -2/+6How could they do such a thing?
- monkeymad2, on 01/25/2009, -0/+4One side of the border is about as blurry as a blended frog, the other's completely clear down to about a few meters. Both show the middle of nowhere - just one nowhere is somewhere different than the other nowhere...
- inhaler, on 01/25/2009, -1/+5Besides, last time I crossed Google I had to tell coworkers I "ran into a doorknob" to hide the black eye...
- gfxlonghorn, on 01/25/2009, -0/+4I am.
- inactive, on 01/26/2009, -0/+4google maps gives some of the worst directions. i travel alot for my job and got so irritated with how poor their directions are i started using microsoft live and they have been ALOT better
- thecheatah, on 01/25/2009, -1/+5I have heard of ***** like this only from google maps. I think last time someone found an infinite loop. The directions would loop over and over again.
Do you have examples of other map sites? (Just trying to understand the complexity of the problem vs. just poor programming/logic) - inactive, on 01/25/2009, -1/+5It's actually a pretty sweet crossroads location, 3 hours from Boston, 3 hours from Montreal, 1 hour from Saratoga & Lake George and the adirondack park, an hour from Catskill ski mountains and state parks, 2 1/2 hours from NYC... Just wish it was a shorter trip to the finger lakes, niagra falls, and the casinos...
- TiMMY8765, on 01/25/2009, -0/+4scroll it down past the 2 google street view ones
http://thedailywtf.com/Articles/McDialup.aspx - Netrilix, on 01/25/2009, -0/+3People end up in Staten Island mistakenly and never leave.
- dolphumous, on 01/25/2009, -1/+410308 vs 12308
- ZeeZee2k, on 01/25/2009, -0/+3Don't forget the smell, roll up your window
- bdfariello, on 01/25/2009, -0/+3I have a Garmin and it works fine. I've never had to navigate NYC itself, but I've navigated Long Island, Buffalo, Rochester, and Albany successfully.
Oh yeah, Garmins work in the real Schenectady as well. - inactive, on 01/26/2009, -0/+3Don't hate me, but I used to work for the albany county health department and bomber's has had a... let's just say disturbing number of red flag violations. I've heard stories of them literally beating away rats with shoes and leaving the blood dry on the floor for weeks.
if you're into wings, I suggest Legend's nearby or wings over albany down western ave. near price chopper. burritos i guess trader joe's can't go wrong. - talonstriker, on 01/25/2009, -0/+3I think it might the graph might have built incorrectly. I once heard of a bug in map quest, that allowed you to get from somewhere in Illinois to Norway by traveling 1 mile and under 5 minutes. The bug was due to an incorrect edge connecting the two nodes representing Somewhere, Illinois to Somewhere, Norway.
- netant, on 01/25/2009, -0/+3I always figured it out by the stench. j/k
- Yambag, on 01/25/2009, -1/+4It's Staten Island, who cares?
