+digg - combatchuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+130 seconds in photoshop and I'd have it fixed. That is no excuse.
- gaijinflyer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Look at the comparison between South Korea and North Korea.
Also, i found it interesting that the midwest US (KS, IA, NE, OK) have towns in a rough grid. - TheBaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The maps don't line up. All of Cornwall's lights are in the middle of the English Channel.
- Lynd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wouldn't harm to do some processing, most borders are horribly mismatched...
And BTW: it's not done by Google, look at the (c). - hiro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll digg it because Google didn't do it
- RaistlinMajere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hmm...kinda hard to see the map at night...
- DesertFoxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so you guys are say that this is crap because the mapping is a little off and that is only powered by not done by google?
- retawd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Look! Africa is dark!! Thats Google's fault too!
- jchae84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jesus christ! africa has NO NIGHT PRESENCE!
- justinvt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0didn't know Pesti 2006 was written all over our planet - drrrrrr
- schnuerle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks like the Hungarian image hosting site he or she is using is down, or at least not serving images. Probably a Digg Effect.
No comment on the tards that thought it was done by google, not lined up because the projections are different, or think it's crap. Oh wait, that was a comment. Tards. - expotice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is very cool. too bad the nighttime data isn't availble in higher resolution
- CosmicJustice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why did this guy stick his copyright all over a NASA photograph?
- breakneckridge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Only 128 mega pixel? I got one og those guys on my cell phone! ;)
- tmcleroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0same same
- psychoaliendog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The reason why the maps don't line up isn't entirely their fault, as it says on the web site:
"The underlying 128 megapixel night imagery from NASA uses a map projection different from Google Maps'. The two are aligned near the NYC-Madrid-Tokyo axis only" - allarise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0***** puerto rico is lit up!
- davdav, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wish it zoomed more, but still pretty cool
- idleformat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0According to this, during the daytime I live beside the English Channel. When the sun goes down I'm suddenly in north London.
- azharc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its not working.
- maad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"No data available" :(
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Another cool but useless piece of crap. I just wasted 2 minutes of my life."
And even more by commenting on it here out of free will. ;-) - jizzimmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't see what's so special about this.
No digg. - montek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If it worked, it might not suck.
- Sturm55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0same...
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Obviously not made by google"
Yeah, as anyone can see by looking at which site hosts it.
Why is this even brought up? Are people really stupid enough to need to be informed about it?
"Why did this guy stick his copyright all over a NASA photograph?"
He didn't. There's no copyright symbols besides his name, just a year, which doesn't make it a copyright. There is a copyright for NASA in the lower right corner though. Clever to advertise himself, but not claiming the copyrights. - jydesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dear site owner, get rid of the huge useless "Nightime" banner please
- geoboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Gentleman, I think it's safe to say the site has been "Digg *****"
- dielawn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wish i could zoom more, but i like this, dugg.
- sdm011, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think the google logo looks cool with a black background.
It isn't dont by google, but is still pretty cool. - Philipp_Lenssen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Same here, doesn't work ("no data available" etc.)
- dcipjr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It'd be cooler if it zoomed in more -- a LOT more -- but I'll digg.
- UnKnownViper27, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Freaking awesome!
- reets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Doesn't even work here. Map comes up but everything is No Data no matter what the zoom.
- filipf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maps don't line up - look at the Baltic see!
- matrix2022, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nifty.
- motionblur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Total digg. Very impressive with the roads imposed on the night map.
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All this is is a photo of the world at night overlayed on Google. No digg.
- edgarneo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0why do people still think that google and their services are cool? it just a e-company making a buck. and helping the chines gov to put journalists behind bars (a new service?). wow! that is cool :(
- I8PP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why didn't he stretch the night image so it lines up with the day one?
- Murdock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Neat! Not as detailed as I would have liked, but still cool. I have this poster on the wall behind my comp desk. I have been waiting for this for a long time.
I know this wasn't done by google, but Google needs to do Google Earth at Nite! Now that would be cool - Cyberdactyl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Dusk Map doesn't line up for me either.
It appears to be little more than a night shot with allot of transparency simply laid over a day map. - weaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Check out the contrast between South Korea and North Korea at night. Crazy.
- edgarneo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0like what you did though ;)
- dargon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0More than just the maps and lights don't match up. The lights themselves don't always seem to match up with the major urban area they are attributed to. For example, the Okanagan, in British Columbia, the light blob isn't located above the urban center, rather it's over the mountains to the south east.
- zootm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome, although the map overlay insists that Edinburgh is in the middle of the North Sea! :)
- removespyware, on 02/19/2009, -0/+0Awesome Posts!! Hey remove Malware For Free!!
