It was also announced that Current will team up with Google to provide twice-hourly updates on popular web searches.

Google has signed a deal to partner with Al Gore’s new cable channel, called Current, which will launch this summer. this might have something to do with Larry Page’s oblique comments about soliciting homemade videos. The Current channel will, as part of its programming, accept video submissions from users, and provide video production tools on its Web site. Google will furnish twice-hourly reports on popular current searches. - Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The article summary makes no sense...
Sounds like one of those nonsensical spam subject lines you see all too often. - notman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For those who have DirecTV, look for a channel called "Current TV". If you look at the listing, it says Google TV (or something like that) as the title of what's on. It always reads that. This may be a regional thing on DirecTV. I'm in Michigan, so anyone around here can likely see it.
Maybe they are working on media center PC's to interface with this channel. - EnzanBlues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, that summary is absolutly horrible. I would expect more from Albertpacino. Anyways, like said above, another reason why google is going to rule the world some day. First they take control of the internet then the rest of the world. It only takes a little time.
*bows before google +digg - jameswfrost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't understand your summary either - you've taken a few segments of sentences from that article, and jumbled them together with no punctuation (apart from 3 apostrophes) into something that makes no sense at all!
- mousky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"using Google’s search and advertising technologies to enhance users’ Television viewing experience trends that are shaping user behavior when watching Television identify areas where use of Google’s search and advertising technology can enhance this user experience"
What the f*ck does this mean? Worst article summary I have read to-date. We need some quality control on digg. - junkfood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Advertisers are already scared about people fast-forwarding past commercials. They will be even more worried about people downloading shows and having the ability to not only skip commercials, but potentially remove them from the file.
I think this puts Google in a prime position. Google already brought back online advertising and now it's bigger than ever. With 99% of their revenue coming from advertising, I think they will be the ones to find the sweet spot for advertising on IPTV that consumers will like (or at least willingly tolerate). Most likely through providing some sort of incentive. They have been able to make all their money by giving us a reason to tolerate advertising because we get something new and useful. See: Gmail. They give us all the storage space we can use along with a nice email application, in exchange for the right to advertising along the side. We flock to it.
They provide us with, say, the ability to see any show at any time. In exchange, they use part of those wide screens (which are getting more mainstream everyday) to display unobtrusive, non-distracting ads. (Don't ask me how, but I think they can.) That means advertising can go from 10-12 minutes of full attention per hour to less attention, but for the full hour.
That will bring the advertisers around and, therefore, help push the whole technology into mainstream. - apollo2011, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You an already watch shows from within the Google Video Search.
- digitaltrav, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Current TV = Google TV.
- tobashadow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Current TV is so Da*n boring!
- nickster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I know Google has a show on Current TV they mostly talk about the top searches and other things.
- Jon2x4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0TV...on Google...This century get weirder and weirder
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's a fact guys. Top story albert, Well done.
- Tech_Junkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So Google to take over the world. So why is this a good thing. Can anyone say Microsoft 10 years ago, but this seems to be what all the google minions want. So once google has control say GOOD BYE to standards!
- Orwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ive been watching google current for around a month now good tv... supernews bush satire is good
- notman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree. I tried to watch current TV one time to give it a chance and it was rediculusly boring.
- thewoz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmm, Al Gore sits on Google's Board of Directors... And Al Gore owns Current TV... I wonder how that deal got started?
Side note- Current sucks- the user created content is mostly uninteresting/pointless. Imagine a 24 hour channel devoted to showing all the worst segments of 60 minutes. - nymphetamine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"For those who have DirecTV, look for a channel called "Current TV". umm....no. dude, the only have like a little segment from google. and its about google searches. so i wouldnt expect google to really partner up with a crappy channel like current tv. if anything, they would probably start their own channel. - nymphetamine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0another reason to believe that google will take over the world.
- Permanent4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm not interested in Google TV. I'd be more interested in Google Radio.
- larfus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0while watching a PBS show the other night Google actually sponsored it.
- brett.evans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah I'm in Hawaii and can get Google TV/Current TV, some of it is pretty useful.
- Albertpacino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Here is a paper by Sergey Brin and other Google engineers
http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~milch/papers/www2003.html
they have been speaking about this since some time.
