- d3m3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13They're working on it, it'll be ready when it's ***** ready.
- dnthomps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Example of thumbstacks.com's service: http://tinyurl.com/syao2
*tinyurl due to digg taking the (plus) sign out of urls... grrr :( - heymark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Or, have a fair competition, depending on the user and preference.

- SyDIGG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"Google Likely To Buy Another Company"
In other news: Madonna likely to have more sex. - mastercheif, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Jeez, they should get ***** writely out of a closed beta first. That needs to be their best application for their office program.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Those Thumbstack guys suck. Here is a beta application that works with safari, opera9, firefox, and IE: http://thoth.robrohan.com/laboro/offero/index.thx
:-p - WinterSolstice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Well, I'm going to be dug down for this, but to heck with it.
Is it better to have your data on a corporate server where they can afford to sue, or on your own machine where you can't? You're screwed either way.
Honestly I can't really answer that question... I'd like to actually be able to trust someone some day.
-WS - TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@ dm2m2: Hopefull it won't take 9 years (and counting) like the last people who said that!
- TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I've always thought it's a good idea to store all your personal data on a corporation's servers, too
- TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The US government seems to. They could easily hand out a subpoena and get all my data. Or just ask for it, like they did when Yahoo and MSN gave out the search records. AT&T even installs wiretapping hardware in their facilities, according to a former employee. Like the saying goes, it's better to be safe than sorry.
- DAC1138, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Likely to" isn't "is going to," therefore we shouldn't even begin to speculate. Remember when Google was "likely to release GoogleOS?"
- prab, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Check your URL.

Great product. - zeldafan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Google Office 2006
Coming in a month or two, after they get all the basic beta versions out the door. - BlueLaser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3But when will we see more integration? I hate using Gmail and then being forced to open Calendar in a new window to see my calendar events (compared to, say, Outlook where Notes, Tasks, Mail, and Calendar are all tightly integrated).
Before Google Office can be success full, I think Google needs to create an online desktop space that allows you to easily access all of their office apps AND easily access all of your saved files. (And I'd like to be able to organize my saved files in "virtual folders" rather than always having to search for saved items as is the way of the Google.) - BlueLaser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That's not all you need if you use ThinkFree. You have to have the Java Runtime installed and running, which if you ask me means ThinkFree isn't really a web-based solution (it's just a web interface to Java running on your desktop).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Honestly, I'd prefer a stand-alone product to a web-based product.
Drag & Drop between applications, as well as right-clicking, is much too critical in many users' worlds.
Don't forget how Undo History & Shortcuts are crippled when using AJAX in a browser! - replica, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yawn. Microsoft will not lose any sleep over this.
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Make sense ... They could pretty much clobber Microsoft's Live Meeting in the corporate space.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you read the Privacy Agreement for GMail, it specifically states that they won't hinder the request for personal data by any government agencies.
If the gov't suddenly gets a hunch that Al Qaida is using GMail for communication, they'll start knabbing your e-mails in droves.
Maybe you shouldn't have clicked through that license agreement so quickly? - Escamillo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All those PHDs and all Google can do is by others' web apps?
- joelito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, lets see...
Personalised homepage, check.
Email, Check.
Online Word Processor, Incoming.
Online spreadsheets, Check.
Online Presentations, Incoming.
Online calendar, Check
Yep, all they need is a google.com/ig/office - projektmayhem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it's free. like open office. only more "mobile" (as it were).
i'm all for google here, i'll sell my soul for "the grid" (if you didn't get that you aint nerd enough) - brandizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They should make their search results as good as they used to be first.
They should also make their spam filters as good as they used to be. - hasanahmad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its funny you know. google is only the leader in search while it lags pretty far behind in other services.
- firemaker103, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Pff, all I need is http://thinkfree.com...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'll sell my soul if I can get a buyback option.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OOh, Gamma!
Gamma will probably be the new buzzword for "beta that's actually good enough as it is" :) Then again, maybe that's already what it means, and I simply know nothing. - h0zae, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@dm2m2: "it'll be ready when it's ***** ready."
now we can keep everything in beta and never worry about ***** getting done... i did see progress over at Yahoo... Flickr has been raised to GAMMA... they are a step ahead of google.... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nah, just to see if I could. I doubt google would want it anyway - the libraries are actually cross browser and who wants that eh? ;)
- somerandomnerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not as strange as the number of people who comment on articles reaching the front page with a small number of diggs.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ill wait till someone uses some kind of super plugin that will replace java flash quicktime and windoze media
- Sudha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am still not sure about this kind of web-applications. Would people in corporate would like to make their official details visible to google? Am sure spreadsheets and other web-aps which google is buying is not going to take it anywhere. A file sharing site might put google on top.
- TheGentleman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They need to acquire RememberTheMilk.com for the notes part, or something similar.
- TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Call me paranoid, but my entire hard drive is encrypted with 256 bit parallel AES
- ericwb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Indeed, I very much doubt the corporate world would be inclined to stuff all their data online, no matter how "secure" the system is promised to be.
Now for individuals who are not paranoid and/or do not work on sensitive data, this might very well pull off. That is, if the applications work in a predictable way, and have all the basic features expected from an MS Office clone. - chadu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is like saying "Ford likely to be building another car"
- inukki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0likely to buy another, sounds like a certain company google gets compared what it might turn into...
- aviat0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Let's see how things align between Presentation, Spreadsheet, and Word Processor by the Spring (ie., same time as Office 12 will be released). I think 70% of current MS Office users will NOT have a reason to upgrade to Office 12. Why buy the cow when the milk is free?...
- d3m3, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Did you build that just to try to sell to google?
- gingerbob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0mxGraph (http://www.jgraph.com/mxgraph) if you want visio in a browser.
- rowelld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Having Google consolidate everything together is awesome. I have my mail, adsense, analytics, calendar, personalized page, excel. Google has it going. They are a lot more productive than those guys at Microsoft.
- gcube9x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Only if i also get to see the fifth world...or whatever it's called.
- TheDusk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Google.. you're taking over the world!
I hope I'm kidding.. But how can I be sure.. - TaeBoX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2lawl
- sspooner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Just like everyone thought xterms would be 15 years ago, then these crappy MS thinclients.
Apps will just become more connected, I don't want any of my stuff "online", I want it all locked away where the Russians and kids can't get to it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2How about a Visio app while we are at it? http://thoth.robrohan.com/demo/uml/
- curlyman500, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Yay for everything online. I really hope it becomes a standard some day
- fanboydcs, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2TenebrousX, and why not? They can read your email using google mail? Give me a break, these companies have no interest in your personal data
- bigfuzzyjesus, on 10/12/2007, -11/+239 Diggs and front page... thats kind of strange

What is Digg?
