- linkdj, on 04/24/2008, -2/+57So when can I get Mobile AdBlock Plus?
- nirav72, on 04/24/2008, -0/+20as if friggin mobile download speeds weren't slow enough. Now we have to deal with banner ad graphics clogging up the wireless tubes.
- inactive, on 04/24/2008, -3/+22***** this.
- 180andback, on 04/24/2008, -2/+19Oh, fantastic. More ads.
You know, when I woke up this morning, I turned on the TV and there were ads. Then I went to check my email and there were ads. When I drove to get a pack of cigarettes, there were billboards all around me, and the gas station? There were ads there, too. Plus an entirely different set of billboards for the road back. Then someone IMed me on my phone, and I replied, but I just felt that something was missing. Now I know what that something was.
Let's all band together and thank Google for the opportunity to see more advertisements for products that we don't want or care about. - Merrick178, on 04/24/2008, -1/+13Haven't they heard of SCREEN REAL ESTATE? Buying ad-space on phones better cost a hell of a lot more.
- Muero, on 04/24/2008, -0/+11Does anyone have a screenshot of what this looks like? The article would be much better with an image.
- Premier, on 04/24/2008, -0/+8And so it begins ...

Source: http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/04/24/google-now-of ... - Elderon, on 04/24/2008, -1/+8If I'm being forced to see ads on my cellphone / mobile device than I should have my monthly fee for reduced. That's the only way that I would find this even remotely acceptable. Either I pay normal price for no ads or I pay either nothing or a reduced fee with ads.
- Asrrin29, on 04/24/2008, -0/+6Ok, for those of us that have limited data plans and have to pay our first born for going over our bandwidth (which is only 20mb for me!) this amounts to theft. Every banner ad I am forced to see is that much less data I can use to check important things like maps, weather, and email. ***** this *****.
- linkdj, on 04/24/2008, -2/+7There's a whole... algorithm. You really don't want diggers to go into it. It's a source of much contention when it is seen to be working improperly.
- linkdj, on 04/24/2008, -0/+5AHHHH!
Don't sneak up on me like that! - CodeCobalt, on 04/24/2008, -0/+5"similar devices" have been around WELL before the i-phone. And anything that is 3g, has hardly changed the internet in the past 3 years.
- Mizzike, on 04/24/2008, -1/+6Long story short, it's supposed to be based on a number of things including the diversity of people digging the story. According to Kevin (founder, digg.com), the more diverse the group of people who digg the story, the less diggs required to be promoted. There are other things built into the algo, but this is the one they focused on during their townhall meeting, which you can find somewhere here on Digg's "About Us" pages.
- clesch, on 04/24/2008, -0/+5now, if you are willing to pay money for an application that only runs on jailbroken devices.

I'm not though. :/ - linkdj, on 04/24/2008, -3/+7I'd be happy with Firefox for Windows Mobile
- bkorte, on 04/24/2008, -0/+3Lame. Mobile data is expensive enough as it is....
- Flamancot, on 04/24/2008, -2/+5Yay, more ads...
- chanop, on 04/24/2008, -2/+5I'd love to explain it to you, but we can't get the old-school diggers to understand. How the hell are we suppose to get a new digger to understand?
- Asrrin29, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2they have the rest of the population of internet users to advertise to. This is akin to sending SMS advertising spam to mobile phones vs. a telemarketer calling your home phone. In the latter case, there is no extra cost to you for them doing that, as all land line companies do not charge seperate incoming fees. However, some cellphone companies still charge for incoming text messages.
- caleb4mj, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2Huh? I was thinking of something more like an opt-in service for local ads that might help pay for the phone/net service, SPs getting a percentage, etc. But I would be much more interested in something more like an RSS/newsfeed when I'm close to the strip mall I should get a configurable list of icons or an iconfeed, possibly sorted by distance, that I could click on to get current advertisements, online ordering, etc. So around lunch time it would pop up the local places I frequent, etc.
- CodeCobalt, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2and uh, so did I.
- clesch, on 04/24/2008, -4/+6... what?
parasite |ˈparəˌsīt|
noun
an organism that lives in or on another organism (its host) and benefits by deriving nutrients at the host's expense.
• derogatory a person who habitually relies on or exploits others and gives nothing in return.
One can accuse google of a lot of things, but defintiely not of "giving nothing in return." - Matteos, on 04/24/2008, -4/+6When can i put firefox on my ipod touch/iphone?
- gllopc, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2They didn't mention what you get for viewing the ads. I don't want ads on top of my $150 a month I pay on my cell phone. Give me my service for free, then we'll talk.
- Alegoo92, on 04/24/2008, -2/+4Ew you smoke?
- 180andback, on 04/24/2008, -1/+3I'm not hating on Google, I'm hating on ads. I can't watch artwork -- films -- on network television without an interruption every fifteen minutes for ads. They're everywhere. I don't want that crap. HEAD ON, APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD. When I want or need a service or product, I take the time as a consumer to research that service or product on my own. I don't need ads. I don't use ads. I ***** hate ads. /rant
- Galume, on 04/24/2008, -1/+3because after all, i have PLENTY of room on my tiny cell phone screen. Frikin' greedy bastards.
- imbob, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2it was fun while it lasted..........
- 180andback, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2Then you must click them all the time, eh? Eh? Love the banners? Groovin' on 'em?
- FredFredrickson, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2They gotta get this thing rolling before they put out their phone platforum, duh.
- Alegoo92, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2Yeah, go to Europe or Australia where it's COMPLETELY different! Or China, no ads there or nothin!
- sandeepbalaji, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1Google can't seem to stay out of everyones personal space.....
- inactive, on 04/24/2008, -1/+2NEAT!
i want to buy a free NINTENDO Wii from a GOOGLE AD! - chandrab, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1SMS Ads are the worst....you have to pay to recieve them. the bastards.
I hope this isn't what Google is thinking of. - inactive, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Love how my safari adblock blocked this digg post and no other.. (had to disable adblock in order to comment) i guess adblock for iPhone is coming out soon?
- 180andback, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1I know.
- spicytuna, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1It's not the same as sms spamming. Here you have a choice to NOT visit the websites that have ads.. SMS spam I can understand since it's just that, spam.
By your logic people using ad blockers are also thieves since they are 'stealing' info without seeing the advertisements. I obviously don't believe the previous statement. - Daggity, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1You're buying a free Wii from an ad? Must've been lying to you.
- telepheedian, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1More like, this service had better cost the advertisers an insane amount to put the ads up.
- bullhead2007, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1Yeah can't even pay $10 for a movie wihout seeing 45 minutes of advertisements anymore. Can't watch sports without some sort of ad every 3 seconds "This replay brought to you by AT&T!" etc. it's getting ridiculous.
- JudgeMonkey, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Yeah, as nice as that would be, it's not the phone company supporting, and profiting, from the ads. Just like your ISP isn't shoving ads in your face (unless you have a crappy cheap one, but.. those are, as stated, cheap.)
- vishnu, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1[deletia]
- sorrytheusernam, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Wrong. Is your internet bill reduced because of all the big, scary ads on the internet?
- LightSpeed4, on 04/25/2008, -1/+2more annoyances, brought to you by google.
- darkism, on 04/25/2008, -1/+1Actually, I place them. And trust me when I say that people do click them. :)
- Daniel591992, on 04/24/2008, -2/+2I could've sworn I saw the same comment somewhere else? A new meme?
- Sentinel, on 04/24/2008, -3/+3Boo!
- spicytuna, on 04/24/2008, -1/+1theft? (rolls eyes) how do you think the sites that provide you with important things like maps and weather stay in business?
- polko, on 05/01/2008, -0/+0ad me GOOGLE!
