Google: LOL
Microsoft and Yahoo: WTF?
Google: LOL - crowbar77, on 11/27/2008, -8/+262Who actually still uses yahoo? When google has become known as a verb, you know you've lost.
- FearlessFreep, on 11/27/2008, -8/+167So MSFT buying Yahoo is just two people drowning holding on to each other as they sink?
- HaSulam, on 11/27/2008, -27/+173I for one welcome Google as owner of the universe, and would like to welcome them to our planet.
- displacednomad, on 11/27/2008, -23/+166Google for President in 2012!
- DangQuesadilla, on 11/27/2008, -3/+82Google has achieved that powerful thing where the phrase "google it" is synonymous with using a search engine just like "Kleenex" is synonymous with "tissue." Even when someone is going to use yahoo, they still say "i'll google it." It's just such an easy word to say and has such a ring to it. I think that accounts for half their success. here is an article on the phenomenon:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genericized_trademark - timrob, on 11/27/2008, -3/+65I think I would prefer Google to Palin 2012. Google gives more intelligent answers.
- Thousand, on 11/27/2008, -2/+63Yeah, except nobody actually says that. Have you ever heard:
"Oh hey, what's this word mean?"
"Dunno, why don't you Yahoo it?"
Company Slogan =/= Common Vernacular - ofenza, on 11/27/2008, -1/+61+5 funny
- GoodbyeHorses87, on 11/27/2008, -10/+68all yahoo and microsoft's base are belong to google.
- jordantneff, on 11/27/2008, -7/+63Now that the majority of people finally know what search engine to use it's about time they learned what browser to use.
Firefox FTW.
IE - eat ***** and die. - BellaVitaGirl, on 11/27/2008, -0/+45Hey, it worked in the film Titanic.
- ligyron, on 11/27/2008, -4/+45Google Laughs at Yahoo! and Microsoft [citation needed]
- CAD420, on 11/27/2008, -0/+37/. is down the hall...
- ryleyleckie, on 11/27/2008, -1/+37nice analogy
- khoa1708, on 11/27/2008, -7/+42yahoo should just back out of the search engine business and focus on fantasy sports & their yahoo answers thing
- dengzhi, on 11/27/2008, -0/+34that was so 1990s..
- SirDocOfTardis, on 11/27/2008, -0/+28Google is actually the second name they chose. Originally they were going go with Skynet....
- uncoolcentral, on 11/27/2008, -3/+30yahoo answers is garbage.
http://www.somethingawful.com/flash/shmorky/babby. ... - Nauthez, on 11/27/2008, -0/+23who misspells google?
- drgruney, on 11/27/2008, -1/+24I'll never let go... then like 5 seconds later bitch lets go. WTF!
- drizzlelicious, on 11/27/2008, -8/+30"Do you Yahoo?"
- Lokc, on 11/27/2008, -0/+22Chrome and Firefox are both good, each has their strengths and weaknesses, a combination of both would be awesome
- Petebyte, on 11/27/2008, -6/+28The title is misleading. I thought Google released a press release saying "hahaha Yahoo and Microsoft you suck!" or something. It's so typical of reporters to spin things to make it appear like there is some kind of "he said she said" conflict just to push their stories.
- lornefs, on 11/27/2008, -3/+23Search is a very small part of Microsoft's business. They would like it to be bigger but I bet they aren't too worried about it.
I think people will find in time that Google is not the benevolent giant they think it is.
Why is there always a fanboy contingent that has to show almost religious devotion to what are only big companies with one thing in mind. Making money for themselves and their investors.
They don't care about you, wake up. - meghalc, on 11/27/2008, -4/+22I want both Microsoft and Yahoo to survive the Search engine war! Google needs competition and who else is better to provide it?
- CedEx, on 11/27/2008, -0/+18Hold me Jack!
- NodOfficer, on 11/27/2008, -0/+18Can corporations run for president since they're treated as a single entity?
Founded in the US - Check
35 years of age - Nope
14 years in US - Nope
Google is too young to be president. :( - inactive, on 11/28/2008, -1/+18You don't have a girlfriend you ***** liar. :-)
- bdfariello, on 11/27/2008, -1/+18It only takes one intelligent answer to out-perform Palin.
- Ghid, on 11/27/2008, -0/+16it needs to improve its search engine. That thing is horribad.
- dawpa2000, on 11/27/2008, -0/+16It's that easy!
- meddelem, on 11/27/2008, -1/+16imo , all yahoo's got to do is change it's name .
- josejimenez, on 11/27/2008, -1/+16The search results on Yahoo and MSN live search are hideous. If I want to find something on the Microsoft web site, I have to Google it.
- ileftfark, on 11/28/2008, -0/+14^ +2 insightful
- gabbagabba, on 11/27/2008, -9/+23Does anyone actually care about this?
- DigitalisAkujin, on 11/28/2008, -0/+13Apple can not possibly compete with either Google or Microsoft until they stop overpricing their products simply because it has an Apple logo on it.
- rpieszak, on 11/27/2008, -0/+13The other half of their success can be attributed to a superior product. It just works.
- lolwaffle, on 11/28/2008, -0/+12I once asked my mom a question, and she sarcastically told me to go ask Jeeves. It surprised me, and cracked me up for hours.
- inactive, on 11/27/2008, -8/+20no mention of the new hot cool cuil roflol
those vcs are so gullible - Netrilix, on 11/28/2008, -0/+11"You're going to see Titanic?"
"Yeah, but you can't ruin it for me, I already know the boat sinks!"
"So does Leonardo." - xutopia, on 11/27/2008, -1/+12I dunno... the movie made millions at the box office but the survivor only had sad memories to hold on to for the rest of her life.
- inactive, on 11/28/2008, -0/+11be sure to wipe it off when you are done.
- Hughsie, on 11/27/2008, -1/+12Haha I laughed at that part, "I'll never let go" So she actually pushes him away, decieving bitch!
- Fartag, on 11/27/2008, -0/+11"Gimp that image Corporal, I wanna see my face in it!"
"God damn it sir you're makin' me uncomfortable." - TheBlueVulcan, on 11/27/2008, -4/+14"Loosing," heh.
And their "dumb" browser is 2 months old. Using your definition, Firefox is also "losing" the "browser war" by a very significant margin.
Dumbass. - splorpdotorg, on 11/27/2008, -2/+12Maybe he meant goggle. You know, as in "The goggles, they do nothing!" It was secretly ironic.
- benswanson1, on 11/28/2008, -2/+12Is this a bad thing?
I don't think so
Everything would be free and work well!!! - Ugotownedo, on 11/28/2008, -1/+10Google News.
- AndrewWiggin, on 11/27/2008, -1/+10@ Jeepinator: you're right, but this isn't talking about that. We could also talk about how Google owns Microsoft in voice recognition software, online mapping/directions, webmail, etc. etc. but this story is about search.
