- sockpuppets, on 06/21/2009, -4/+86That's what she said.
- supermanred, on 06/20/2009, -11/+69Let's party total crazy!
- EnTaroTassadar, on 06/21/2009, -2/+58I've been using Google Voice for a long time (since they still called it GrandCentral), and I gotta say, it's a really awesome service if you have multiple phones (or if you just want a second number for your single phone).
For me, the best part is the number blocking. I've yet to see a single cell phone provider allow you to block individual numbers at will, and I'm paying them over a thousand a year. Google comes along and gives me this FOR FREE.
***** you Sprint. - Cglass, on 06/20/2009, -3/+50I love many of Google's services, will be interesting to see how this affects my life.
- RiotHeart, on 06/21/2009, -0/+36Which will forever be in BETA
- 1shawn, on 06/21/2009, -0/+28Eh?

Probability of Getting Number After Posting: 1%
You really got to learn to not post thing like that on the internet! - Garmonbozzia, on 06/21/2009, -0/+23I've had it since it was GrandCentral. Very cool, and Google just made it much cooler.
- jamwil87, on 06/21/2009, -1/+24Canada?
- sockpuppets, on 06/21/2009, -3/+23I hope I get 555-1212.
- Aethra, on 06/21/2009, -3/+20.
- ralphthemagi, on 06/21/2009, -0/+17Yeah, better only go with companies like AT&T, which own a majority of all phone and fiber lines in the US. Stay away from Google!
Every company cooperates with the US Government. Get over it. The NSA can get access to pretty much anything they need through Sprint, AT&T, Verizon and Qwest. - rnawky, on 06/21/2009, -0/+17I REALLY don't think you're going to get a 1-800 number.
- Rufunki, on 06/21/2009, -0/+15You mean google is finally going to give out more gc accounts?
Lies!!! They only give them to people that don't want them, and make us that want them wait. - rnawky, on 06/21/2009, -5/+19Can't wait!
This is going to be a great year. Windows 7, Google Wave, and it looks like Google Voice as well! - grumpyrain, on 06/21/2009, -0/+12That is what the little green thumb is for.
- cowsgonemadd3, on 06/21/2009, -2/+9It is time for Random Dancing!
- mysticalone, on 06/21/2009, -1/+8What's all the commotion aboot?
- Dou6, on 06/21/2009, -2/+8I love GC / Google voice, been using it for years now. The app for the G1 is awesome, a shame it got pulled from the iphone. It was an easy solution to having a cell phone number tied to where I used to live, and having a local number where I live now, all tied into one phone. So now I just give whatever number is local to the person.
- DavidTurnbull, on 06/21/2009, -1/+7Have you ever Googled something? Obviously that affected your life to a degree (no matter how slight). Therefore I conclude that you have no life.
- LanceUppercut, on 06/21/2009, -0/+6thank you in my semi-drunken stupor i clicked the parent thread for this comment and was rewarded w/ said comment verbatim :)
- chazlever, on 06/21/2009, -0/+6This is very cool even though I'm already a Google Voice user. What I'm waiting for is the number portability that has been talked about.
- xrmb, on 06/21/2009, -0/+6did they buy them all in one area code? or 10000 of each area code...? some more details would make this article worth digging... 1/2 buried
- thcobbs, on 06/21/2009, -3/+9What are you, like 12?
My daughter is 5 and loves iCarly... but come on! - Schmich, on 06/21/2009, -1/+6The service (obviously) only works in the US.
- r00fus, on 06/21/2009, -0/+5What a baby. So you get this free service and you whine about not having portability?
- EliCompton, on 06/21/2009, -1/+5It already said that at the top of the page.
- Flagg3, on 06/21/2009, -0/+4It has some pretty advanced call routing features. You can create separate rules for different people who call. So, you could have your business calls automatically sent to voicemail during night hours, create custom voicemails greetings for different people, block some people entirely, set certain callers to always go to voicemail for call screening where you listen in on the voicemail while they are leaving it and can pick up in the middle if you choose.
it also can transcribe voicemails into text and e-mail them to you as well.
Personally, I've had a Grand Central # for 2 years and while I don't really use it now, I can see the potential in it for future use. - heresy_fnord, on 06/21/2009, -0/+4I can't wait for google to take over everything. Google cars, google houses, google cemeteries. I'm tired of having variety. I also want my entire life to be searchable all the time.
- mooseysavage, on 06/21/2009, -0/+4Grand central (now google voice/talk whatever) has been around for a long time. I recommend snatching up a number now, while you still have the option of choosing one that suits your fancy.
- sexybobo, on 06/21/2009, -1/+5I have 3 gc numbers. Didn't know they were hard to get.
- cawpin, on 06/21/2009, -1/+5I just hope they offer the ability to have multiple numbers and 1-800 numbers. That's one feature I will pay for.
- inactive, on 06/21/2009, -0/+4It seems like google is taking over the world with information. Scary, but google has a lot of good ***** services.
- Rufunki, on 06/21/2009, -0/+3Be happy that you have it :)
- rpieszak, on 06/21/2009, -0/+3Number porting added later this year... was hoping that'd be available at launch.
- or3n, on 06/21/2009, -2/+5I couldn't agree more.
- diggforworld, on 06/21/2009, -1/+4GOOGLE FTW!
- centran, on 06/21/2009, -0/+2I am not sure how they will make money on this but with such a large project I would think they do have a plan to make money.
However, Google will normally come out with projects with little to no idea of how to profit it from them. Their mentality is come up with a good idea and they will somehow make money off of it.
They normally make money by ads. They also make money by selling user statistics. They do not sell your information directly(ie. maloventevil searched for this) but as a lump statistics of what all the users are doing(ie. 12000 people searched for this). - ultrafez, on 06/21/2009, -0/+2Why? Also I thought the 555 prefix didn't exist anyway?
- EnTaroTassadar, on 06/21/2009, -2/+4My sister is 5 and watches iCarly. Sometimes when I'm babysitting her, I'll tune in and out and honestly, the show has its moments. I'll admit that I've chuckled a few times watching it.
- lazyslacker, on 06/21/2009, -0/+2OGC?
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 06/21/2009, -0/+2I guess if I could set up a rule whereby certain numbers could ALWAYS ring through, or say ring through at night while others go to voicemail, I could see that being useful indeed.
And I wouldn't mind having my "spam" phone voicemails translated and autoemailed to my junk email bin, so that in case one of them is useful, I'd see it much more conveniently there.
Thank you for your help. - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 06/21/2009, -0/+2I have a phone number that I register all my credit cards, banks, registrations, etc. to.
And I have a private cell phone number that handles ONLY my business and personal calls.
I NEVER answer or even check the voice mail on the first "spam" line and I ALWAYS answer calls on the real line.
The only lame calls that ever get through are wrong numbers and robo-calls that are just counting through random phone numbers. And I flag those as future "ignores".
Since business and person is the same line for me, why would someone like me have any interest in Google Voice?
Serious question! - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 06/21/2009, -0/+2So far, this is the only feature I see worth having if you already have one cell phone for people to call you at.
- DaviDTC, on 06/21/2009, -0/+2You might be the first Amish person I know who uses the internet. You do realize that pretty much anything you do now the NSA can some how get knowledge about it right?
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 06/21/2009, -0/+2Um, Azriel7, why not just move your land line to a cell phone (new or add to plan)? You know, like all of us did years ago for just this reason?
- klinquist, on 06/21/2009, -0/+1Once they offer line number portability, I'll finally be able to disconnect my home phone. Bye, Vonage.
- AngelaQ, on 06/21/2009, -0/+1I have had one forever, hardly used it. I had to get an invitation originally to get in. I got an email just before the switchover, and saw they were closed to new customers. Mostly I just get messages from wrong numbers in Las Vegas.
- caller9, on 06/21/2009, -1/+2555 prefix does exist. No you cannot use it. The actual fake number range is supposed to be 555-[0100-0199]. Nobody seems to care about that rule.
Except for 1212 which exists in almost every area code already as directory assistance, a 555 number is fake.
