- Shogi, on 09/25/2008, -2/+41Hells yes, it needs to be done. The government needs to realize that this is now a digital society.
- AgentMull, on 09/27/2008, -0/+16And we are both 50 years behind Japan.
- alx1507, on 09/27/2008, -3/+19I hope google doesn't turn out to be that charming guy that the girl trusts but then ends up getting raped by. Us being the girl of course...
- AbsurdParadox, on 09/27/2008, -0/+12So... um... you don't think the FCC is raping us by claiming ownership of the electromagnetic spectrum?
- statrick, on 09/27/2008, -2/+13information = power
cheap internet = information for more = power for more = not good for our masters
not to mention all the over priced digital ***** we pay for could be acquired for free by even more of people.
the whole idea is to keep thee people stupid so they are easier to control, duhhhhh! - psud0, on 09/25/2008, -1/+10Woow, that would be a big step. Hopefully some would lobby for the same thing in Europe, but we are always behind US :|
- SuperKewlGirl, on 09/26/2008, -1/+10I couldn't agree more
- inactive, on 09/27/2008, -0/+6Oh please... We may act all naive and innocent, but deep down, we're dirty, we're filthy, and we WANT it.
- inyearstocome, on 09/27/2008, -1/+7Advanced Digging machine who speaks in stock symbols? Sweet.
- Daevlong, on 09/27/2008, -0/+5You think your behind?? I live in Canada.
- septicmadman, on 09/27/2008, -0/+5Encryption of signal to prevent interference and provide parity can be done at speeds that are quick enough to accommodate most professional uses. It also seems that such devices shouldn't operate in the same frequency range and too my knowledge they do not). Much greater bandwidth can be obtained through usage of higher frequencies (more loss as well), but either way it is done at a shorter distance in the case of the "wireless microphone." If I recall correctly FSTV operates from ~60mhz to 600mhz (I think the article gives the range as well) I don't see why the ghz ranges aren't being used for devices that are claimed to be for short-range high fidelity applications.
Unless they are saying"but...but...but HARMONIC!!!!11"
***** the FCC - fxu1989, on 09/27/2008, -1/+5I think my behind too.
- UpperUpsilon, on 09/27/2008, -1/+5Can't wait till the day we all breath the 'nets in at 50gb/s
- pamon, on 09/27/2008, -3/+7kudos to google for always pushing the bar and thinking of the future and customers. don't see MSFT or AAPL doing this. GOOG FTW
- representDLV, on 09/27/2008, -1/+4It's not like Google is doing this out of charity or goodwill. They just want more Internet users because it ensures more profits for them.
- bstew22, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3Japan secretly used the LHC 50 years ago...
- Joudoki, on 09/27/2008, -0/+3Sooner or later I predict all electronic mediums merging.. cell phones, cable tv, phone service - will all be distributed over the internet. With no need for specialized lines - different areas of the spectrums, cable tv wiring, etc - we could use all mediums for internet - wireless broadband everywhere, internet wherever you can get TV...
Well, maybe someday. ( hopes ) - digichris, on 09/27/2008, -2/+5http://www.freetheairwaves.com
Sign the petition! - wonderworm, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2We can get this done with Obama in the whitehouse. I hope I am right.
- infinitus64, on 09/27/2008, -1/+3Canada eh?
- Derrekito, on 09/27/2008, -0/+2Yes, google does have an interest and they have been very forthcoming about it. Better access to the internet means more people using google which "hopefully" means more ad clicking. Read the google blog for more.
- Oztog, on 09/27/2008, -1/+2And you think you have it bad, when I was young we had to get up at 2 in the morning 3 hours before we woke up, head down the mill for tuppence a week and when we got home our father would cut us in two with a bread knife.
But try telling the kids of today, and they won't believe you. - WeThePeople2012, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I thought about this for a while now. What do you think is taking so long? I can't picture this type of advancement being all that difficult, and I'm sure that a lot of people can make a lot of money off of it too.
- bstew22, on 09/27/2008, -2/+3I personally liked the little black and white war on my tv screen.... although i could never tell who was winning.

These guys are already manufacturing commercial-grade spectrum-sensing white space radio device not just for broadband, but also innovative uses such as long-range radio control of devices and data transmissions.
Think smart traffic signals that's solar-powered with LED signal lights, with software-defined signal processing, video streaming of traffic conditions, image/on-ground traffic sensors, automated with central control and central data processing. ALL WIRELESS and GREEN! - timdgibson, on 09/28/2008, -1/+1One problem- these frequencies are needed for every wireless microphone in the USA. TV shows, award shows, churches, and oh yeah your political rallies all need these. And BTW, the devices don't work. Nice try Google. http://shure.com/ProAudio/PressRoom/WhiteSpaces/in ...
- septicmadman, on 09/27/2008, -1/+1They don't own them carte blanche.
- digichris, on 09/27/2008, -2/+1I for one, welcome our "date-rape-face" overlords.
- digichris, on 09/27/2008, -3/+2Yeah man, so they can liek, take over the world.
- chrisduser, on 09/27/2008, -2/+1It is one thing that the government can tap phone lines, but it is another thing when anyone with the proper tools can tap the airwaves. Other than that, sounds great. I'll still want my ground line for secure or sensitive communications.
- AbsurdParadox, on 09/27/2008, -2/+2omgomgomg lobbyists r bad!1!!
- novenator, on 09/27/2008, -2/+2no, he's talking about google. We have all known those charismatic slimeballs that schmooze (or roofie) their way into girls panties.
- arkaycee, on 09/27/2008, -1/+0I think it's kind of odd that the FCC was fine with making many/most existing TVs obsolete without a box (and even with the coupons, it's hard to find a box that the store doesn't ask more than the coupon value for), and yet there's this big paranoia about problems with wireless microphones.
- aznpwnzor, on 09/27/2008, -2/+1then the central desktop'll come true where we "download" our pc's whenever we use them on different hardware
- ThePerkins, on 09/27/2008, -3/+1SHUT YOUR ***** BUTTMOUTH!
- ErrorF002, on 09/27/2008, -3/+1There is a difference between lobbying, and lobbyists.
- NathanielJ, on 09/27/2008, -3/+1My sister was raped and killed in a white space :(
- BrendanSheehan, on 09/27/2008, -5/+2Don't be evil. Google wants it open, I wonder why? There's obviously personal company interest in this. Who cares though, as long as these white spaces are safe then I'm all for it.
- EmperorOfCheese, on 09/27/2008, -5/+2Although I like Google's intentions with this, I fear they are getting too much power over consumers.
- inactive, on 09/27/2008, -4/+1Google is planning to take over the world.Let the digg conspiracy theories begin.
- inactive, on 09/27/2008, -4/+1Ah, but an information overload can easily be used to brainwash the masses. So therefore, it should be easy to argue to the powers-that-be that this is the right move.

What is Digg?
