- ketsugi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Direct syncing with Outlook and Evolution (and by extension, with Pocket PCs or with your Palm/cellphone/iPod/whatever) would be a very welcome addition.
- thatsiebguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I just want a Google Calendar box on my google.com/ig page.
- planbinc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Wave goodbye Outlook!
- thatsiebguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, but you can get about the same thing by just adding your personal XML feed directly as a module. I wanted an actual mini calendar (with day boxes and such) like whats' on the side of the Google Calendar page.
- Thickey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Great, more stuff I want to play with. I call first dibs on Calendar/Maps mash up!
- mahler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4>> 2. It'd be nice to be able to enter calendar data in Outlook and have it publish to Google Calendar.
That is now possible when somebody creates an Outlook plugin using this Google Calendar API - jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Cute.... now to get to coding a web applet that takes advantage of all this...
- razzi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If someone writes a good interface to iCal, using this api, I see (apart from the addressbook synchronization), no good reason to use the (expensive) Apple's .mac anymore.
- mstahl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3bwghuges,
Glad to hear you and your colleague are enjoying the new GData APIs. I'm one of the GData developers and we're very excited about them. Unfortunately, with all new code there are very likely bugs, but we're happy to hear feedback so we can continue to improve the code.
If you have suggestions or bug reports on the new API(s), please post them to the Google Group for GData or the Google Group for Calendar API .
Thanks for the feedback. -- mark
Mark Stahl - -dXs-, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You should mail your findings to Google, try code@google.com and let them know about this.
Maybe even calendar@google.com
On the note of APIs, I'm sure we'll see a flood of new plugins and tools. The more popular ones will probably be adopted by Google and they'll hard code it into Calendar. THis is why I like Google, a base product is launced along with APIs and they let the users decide what they want and see what works instead of stating "This is how it is, deal with it".
I'd like to get my hands in this myself, but I'm still learning the existing features, let alone creating my own :) - CubiX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Awesome. Now someone can make a Google Desktop Sidebar Calendar plug in, that syncs with GCalendar.
Btw, what's up with the calendar.google.com url? Why not something like gcal.com etc. Just like they did with the gmail.com - MCMLXXXIV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Two features before I switch over from Outlook to Google Cal:
1. Ability to automatically sync it with Outlook to retain a backup (I use pop to backup my gmail). Specifically Outlook because I already use it to sync my calendar to my iPod-- kills two birds with one stone.
2. It'd be nice to be able to enter calendar data in Outlook and have it publish to Google Calendar. - Koldark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I would love to be able to sync Outlook with Google Calendar. Then all I need is a portable version of the calendar and my cell phone company to get internet back on the phones, and I would be all set.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I was waiting for this to happen. I didn't realize it would so soon!
- ThomasCS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Although it may not *necessarily* derive from the API, by far the coolest thing ever would be direct integration of Google Callendar with Outlook and other desktop calendar software.
I'm not talking about the current import/export functionality (which is cool), but an actual integration of the two. Possibly it could use gmail as an intermediary or something. I'm not sure how Microsoft would feel about it, but ultimately I don't think they could stop it.
The great value of something like that is for people (like me) who are frustrated because it's not possible to synchronise Outlook's calendar between two computers without Exchange or complicated pieces of (mostly) badly-written thirdparty software. - retral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd love to see a google calendar app for pocketPC :)
- CrackHappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm not sure of the possible applications, but I've been wondering how using Gcal would help with my work's public events calendar. We already have management systems in place for it and don't know or see how Gcal would help.... any ideas?
- proton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Get coding. Seriously all the posts on here are "I wish someone would..." or "the first person to...", etc. If you have an itch, scratch it yourself instead of waiting for someone else to come along and do it.
- bwghughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A colleague and I have been playing with this - him more than I !! The c# library has some shocking errors in it - creating an appointment uses a 12 hr clock for example - that and the posted XML is malformed, causing the appointment to be added at the point in time its posted rather than the intended start time. While I'm over the moon Google have launched Calendar and the api, these errors are real schoolboy ***** ups.......
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought about the same thing concerning Outlook. However do to my job using Outlook/Exchange I can't really just give it up. I am starting (hopefully I'll be able to finish as well) a synchronizer between the two. At first I envision it working in only one direction. It will take all Outlook appointments and make sure they get entered into the Google Calendar. That way you can still accept work appointments but can view everything in your Google Calendar.
Here's my first post about it. Right now I also plan on publishing this as an Outlook add-in and also intend to publish the code for free non-commercial use.
http://www.jaygeiger.com/2006/05/google-outlook-calendar-synchronizer.html - jj00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow that was quick - maybe this will get Yahoo off their asses and do something similar. I'd love to see some direct sync capabilities with Palm Desktop for instance.
- mstahl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thanks for the shout-out, but I'm pretty sure Kyle would prefer if you were to contact us through the Google Groups we've setup for this purpose. Head over to groups.google.com and look for "Google Calendar Data API" and "Google Data API". We're keeping an eye on them, and will try to respond quickly.
Mark - seweso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Someone should make a virtual outlook application which synchronizes with Google Calendar!! This application should register itself as outlook and expose the Outlook api which all kinds of synchronization applications already use (including my samsung PC studio).
:D - Solol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Me too.
- Griffen37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Isn't that already built in?
- sagargemini, on 11/25/2008, -0/+1Mindblowing. Really, Google is the king. I would love to discuss this on my small site http://technology-nuggets.blogspot.com and spread the word...

- TheRepublic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i think its been done but not with gcalendar nor gmaps. Hope to see this in action soon.

google - l0th, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1looks like gcal.com was already taken, that's probably why.
- carwashi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1there is a java api. check the google website http://code.google.com/apis/gdata/calendar.html
- regriff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would love to see some type of script that will allow you to integrate this calendar into a personal website, where you can theme the calendar to meld nicely into your website.... This will open the door for a lot of google action on personal websites, which will undoubtedly turn into ad space on every website that integrates... oh the possibilities.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Do you know that Yahoo's Intellisync is capable of syncing directly to your Palm without resorting to using Palm Desktop as the middleman?
- spadgos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1haha you're a linux man, aren't you?
- TheRepublic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1importing your stuff to gcal (they have the import feature + rss also.)
- p2pintel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nice! well Mark, it's good to know that as well :-D

- l0th, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this has been out for 12h and 20 min. already and still no script to sync my google calendar with my palm? Please someone: deliver us from MS Outlook!
- c1p8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very cool! Now I can see my agenda in PC, mobile phone and on the web!
However I think Microsoft will offer an Outlook Live... right? - polartb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A .NET library is already provided by Google. Just click on "Client Libraries" on the left hand side.
- DrLex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, where is ToDo list na gCal?
Where is PHP library for this API? - p2pintel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2People who need quick answers should be talking to Kyle Marvin at google, he's playing a huge role in the project, get him on kmarvin at google.com
cheers!

on this site when you click save to calender options appears and send to respective sites using api calender ,i also want to implement it in php please provide me help - LittleMoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If someone made a desktop app that matched my rainlendar setup but used google calendar data I'd be so happy. Add dates and info at work or school, then come home and see it nicely reflected on my desktop. Currently I can only add and edit stuff when I'm at my computer and most of the time I think of stuff I need to add to my calendar when I'm not at home.
- Zarafyan, on 02/11/2008, -0/+0Very interesting article
