- billytkid, on 12/03/2008, -0/+48I've been using this for 3 or so months now, its been going for ages.
Shame iPhone still cant play with CalDav :( - Mokshaguy390, on 12/03/2008, -3/+46Okay, okay, I get it. Google is integrating itself into every single part of my life. I don't even care anymore. Come back when Google has integrated itself into my dreams.
- dignick, on 12/03/2008, -0/+42This is really just the release of a setup utility that automates something that was already possible. Still useful.
- sLydE, on 12/03/2008, -0/+23Buy Lightspeed Briefs, style and comfort for the discriminating crotch.

- alecks, on 12/03/2008, -0/+12Can't you sync your iPhone to iCal, which syncs to gCal?
- customer, on 12/03/2008, -1/+12Easier to use? I always thought it was just a ripped off online version of iCal.
- slanted, on 12/03/2008, -0/+11does this mean we'll soon be able to sync our iphone calenders with google?
- electronicdream, on 12/03/2008, -1/+12Well, you know, they're not FORCING you.
You can still use pen and paper if you wish so. - bilco, on 12/03/2008, -1/+10So can I now get my Google Calendar as my default Calendar on my iPhone ????
- Munceenuts, on 12/03/2008, -4/+11Do uSpeak for every single user on Digg?
- Eisen4, on 12/03/2008, -0/+6My iPhone syncs events to my google calander over the air. Free account on NuevaSync takes care of it all. Just have it link to your google cal within the account. Set it up as an Microsoft Exchange account on the iPhone. Done. Been doing it for ~6 months now.
- nysus, on 12/03/2008, -0/+5Why? I just uninstalled it.
- krekc, on 12/03/2008, -2/+7Its about damned time! Google calender is so easy to use that I stopped use iCal.
- a12iel, on 12/03/2008, -0/+5what about transporting my ical events to google cal?!
- Altotus, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4Yeah. I've been using this feature for about a year. It works a treat (and not just iCal -- it's just that iCal is a popular CalDAV client).
- centcom, on 12/03/2008, -1/+5Another reason to leave Mobileme I guess. Gonna be interesting when my subscription runs up. Now all I need is some storage that works like mobileme.
- Kozy, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4As i already have all my calendars set-up within iCal, is there any automated way of doing the reverse and copying all of my iCal calendars onto Google Calendar? The program only seems to work in the other direction
- TimmyGUNZ, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4Export your calendars from iCal then upload them into Google Calendar. Then, use the Collaborate app to sync up your Google Calendar into iCal. Once you do that and verify the data is there, you can safely remove the old native iCal calendar and start using the one that syncs w/Google.
- counterplex, on 12/03/2008, -0/+4Get outta my dreams...
Get into my car...
On second thought, I don't want Google in my car. - ironiridis, on 12/03/2008, -0/+3While this is true, and I'm currently a paying SpanningSync customer, I'm looking for a solution that I can use with my personal gmail account and my business google apps account. SpanningSync requires me to pay once for each, and I can't work with that. As it is, I can't get my boss to pay for my business account with you.
This isn't your fault, naturally, but I need a solution which is workable and affordable, and with two accounts like this, SpanningSync isn't for me. - customer, on 12/03/2008, -1/+4Yeah, I sword it did that too.
- merr, on 12/03/2008, -1/+4The title is a bit misleading since it supports any client that uses CalDAV.
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -0/+3God dammit. I've slowly started using my me.com email as my main email address. When my trial runs out (Which thanks to apples screw ups has been extended to about 6/7 months :D) they'll be holding my email hostage. I'll have to pay up :(
- dxgg, on 12/03/2008, -1/+4You already can.
http://www.nuevasync.com - TeraRealm256, on 12/03/2008, -0/+3yeh...jailbreak and in cydia...download nemusync....been using my iphone calendar to sync with my google calendar for a while now...it's awesome!
- abird, on 12/03/2008, -0/+2Same here -- any smart guys out there know how to do this?
- beck5, on 12/03/2008, -0/+2sweet
- davzie, on 12/03/2008, -3/+5Comical!
- erictheninja, on 12/03/2008, -0/+2Cause some people like paying subscription fees for their data to go through the software developer's servers. *sarcasm*
- nysus, on 12/03/2008, -2/+4For that privilege, you have to pay $100/year to Apple/MobileMe.
- 1nhuman, on 12/03/2008, -0/+2Still using MobileMe and will keep using it. I almost only use the syncing features (cal, address book, keychain) between my Mac, my wife's Mac and our iPhones. My wife also uses the web space for iphoto websites, etc.
It pretty much just works. No hassle. - elrac, on 12/03/2008, -0/+2***** yeah
- ironiridis, on 12/03/2008, -0/+2The utility only adds the calendars as objects into iCal. You should be able to copy-paste the events into your Google calendars in iCal, but unfortunately, it seems doubtful that you'll be able to automate this any time soon.
Nemussync on the iPhone does this really well, but you'll need a jailbroken phone do use it. - RobotBuddha, on 12/03/2008, -0/+2Nuevasync's been great for the few months I've used it. Though it has made me wish the iphone had a better system for notifications.
- hollismb, on 12/03/2008, -0/+2That's my question too. I've been using NuevaSync to make it work, but direct support would be much better.
- thenome, on 12/03/2008, -0/+2But sync ical with CalDav and the iphone to ical, near perfect, or sync with mobileme to ical than to google, even faster.
- diggcommentguy, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1No.
- Sketchcast, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1I feel silly that I just now noticed the new Calaboration.app .
Colour me impressed; it's simple and it's a lot easier for the end user to wrap their heads around than the old method of connecting CalDav accounts. I for one welcome our new google overlords. - sheldonnbbaker, on 12/03/2008, -1/+2Try NemusSync - available in Cydia. Will sync up your iPhone and Google Calendar.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1I'm just waiting for Google to release a native iPhone app for Google Calendar so I can completely stop using my MobileMe calendar. I am always adding events to my personal and shared work calendars, but MobileMe doesn't push shared calendar updates to the iPhone. If I could just fire up a native Google Calendar app that kept everything in sync my problem would be solved.
- thedragon4453, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1Sort of. For example, I have a couple of ical native calendars that I use with my iPhone just fine.
My wife uses gcal, and I've got that set up to play nice with ical, too. My wife's calendar won't sync to the iPhone though. I've been reluctant to try syncing to my own gcal because because I haven't had the time to fix it if it messes up. - caspy7, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1I've been investigating this topic for my organization for a while now.
From what I've found, there is no free *sync* bridge from a normal iCal calendar and Google Calendar. As was mentioned, you can export from iCal and then import to Google Calendar and then set it up as a CalDAV calendar (using the Calaboration app if you like) in iCal.
As we explore using Google Apps Education (non-profit) Edition, one of the sticking points in collaborating by necessity with Exchange users (in terms of calendaring) is that Entourage can sync with a normal calendar in iCal, but when you set up a CalDAV calendar it is 'special' and Entourage cannot sync with it.
I have found three *potential* solutions to this problem all of which are pay solutions.
http://busymac.com/
http://spanningsync.com/
and I've most recently discovered
http://www.syncem.com/
Both of the first two report that there have been 'issues' with syncing when Entourage is in the picture because it does not play a good sync citizen and can have irregularities and corrupt it's database (oops).
The third, Sync'Em looks like it has the most potential as it claims it will sync directly from iCal to the Exchange server as well as Google Calendar - thereby completely bypassing Entourage. This feature, however isn't due to be landed till the end of January.
You'll want to be checking the prices before you pee your pants with excitement.
You'll probably want to check the full feature lists before shelling out your shells. - phronko, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1I tried this out and every few minutes, I get an error message saying that my password is no good. I enter my password again and it works fine. Anyone else having this problem? Is it just because so many people are using it all of a sudden?
- RobotBuddha, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1I'd guess apple would consider that duplicated functionality and reject it.
- kennyscott, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1Actually, Yahoo Calendar already supports this: http://www.glenscott.co.uk/2008/10/22/synchronize- ...
- nazsco, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1it's there for some months now.
- mrBitch, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1Wow, buried for CalDAV truth (google it, the facts can't be argued).
- kelchm, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1Look, theres nothing wrong with using your mobileme account for push, but using it as your MAIN account is a horrible idea.
What happens when you decide you don't want to pay for it anymore?
Best soution... Use a gmail account linked to a domain that you own and have al mail forwarded to mobileme. Use your mobileme account as inbox zero while sending all mail through your gmail account. The key is to never reveal your mobileme account then so everything ends up in the gmail archive. - GopherChucks, on 12/03/2008, -0/+1Oh now, come on, this is pretty big. When I was in college, I was using a PowerBook and iCal to keep track of my class schedule, color coded to the nth degree, with all projects and what not listed in my to-do bar. iCal was fantastic for keeping me productive and making sure I didn't miss something before settling in for 5-6 hours of Halo 2 and Natty Light beer.
However, when I took a job as a "lab consultant" (basically monitoring the computer labs in shifts) I was prohibited from keeping my laptop open. I could still do work on the computer, just so long as it didn't appear I was doing work to the customers who weren't able to see my monitor, because having books out would make them feel more like they were interrupting, which we didn't want.
I always had to use some 3rd party software or trick to get iCal and Google Calendar to "play nice". They sort of did, but there was a seam... Having used OS X for a year or two, I subconsciously rejected anything that wasn't totally transparent and seamless after being spoiled by the bevy of free and trial software that "Just worked."
My PowerBook has since fallen into disrepair, and I don't use it any more, instead of my hand-me-down ThinkPad. But I would have paid some of my hard-earned beer and pizza budgeted money to get this back then. -
