- topcat31, on 02/29/2008, -9/+24It's nice to see Wired talking about this kind of thing but the article is flawed. Since the recent Google update (which they reference in the footer) Google bombs are only effective if the website you are bombing mentions the target phrase (or part of the target phrase) on the site.
For example, the reason the scientology website was ranking number 1 for 'dangerous cult' is that it mentioned the word 'cult' on the page (and, more subtly, that 'dangerous' is a common word).
So remember, when you're planning a google bomb make sure your phrase, or most of your phrase is already mentioned on the site somewhere.- quomen, on 02/29/2008, -7/+5rtfa?
"Unlike the good old days, however, you can no longer google bomb for any phrase you like. The google update of Jan 07 (referenced below) means that it's necessary to choose your phrase from words which already appear on the page in question. For example, the recent google bomb of the scientology site for 'dangerous cult' only worked because the word 'cult' was mentioned on the page."- topcat31, on 02/29/2008, -0/+6Yeah - that para wasn't in the original article. I added it.
- dannyapplesauce, on 02/29/2008, -3/+2How are you being dugg up... That is in the freakin article and quomen just quoted too. Did you even read it?
- dumbrit, on 02/29/2008, -3/+1It was the word 'dangerous' that was mentioned on the scientology site, not cult. Incidentally, the site was ranking 23rd for the single phrase 'cult' at the time. Google bombs are still possible.

Yes, that's exactly what they say in TFA. - rpgmaker, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2In Spain the SGAE (it is like the RIAA of Spain) was victim of a Google bombing. If you google for the word ladrones (that's thief in spanish) you get them on the first result: http://www.google.es/search?hl=es&q=ladrones&btnG= ... and if you press the "I'm feeling lucky" button you get instantly redirected to their web page. It would be awesome if we can do this to the RIAA and the MPAA :)
- redwallhp, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2Just leave a comment with the target phrase in it (assuming it's a blog), then proceed with the Google Bomb.

- SteveMax, on 02/29/2008, -0/+5Ok, let's bomb your site with "damn spammer".
- rhbama13, on 02/29/2008, -6/+0So what you are saying you could use google bombs to rick roll the world?
- gak001, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2I hope you die a slow and painful death - preferably involving disembowelment by feral cows and a bottle of 5 molar HCl, but I'm not picky.
- rdoger6424, on 03/02/2008, -0/+15 molar? be reasonable! 10 molar at least!

- nsoonhui, on 02/29/2008, -5/+0Check the Google, now it doesn't say that Scientology is a dangerous cult

Googlebomb Watch - http://blogoscoped.com/googlebomb/ - NinjaPirateDude, on 02/29/2008, -0/+4yes i can see it now, make my "enemies" laugh to death by google bombing them.......... your methods are sly, wired, quite sly indeed.
- metapop, on 02/29/2008, -1/+2reminds me of the hilarious attack on ashley cole, the then arsenal, now chelsea defender... a couple years back, when searching for "ashley cole" on google, it would automatically suggest "see results for: ashley cole gay" which was most likely planted by a rival team's fan. see this article: http://www.theinquirer.net/en/inquirer/news/2006/0 ...
- ServAce85, on 02/29/2008, -4/+2As Fat Albert would say, "Hey, hey, hey, [Google] bombs away!"
- jsffive, on 02/29/2008, -1/+3It doesn't take a genius to BREAK a computer. It takes an idiot.
Here's an idea: get a job.
Go ahead, give me any "ticking time-bomb" scenario that you want. Al Quaeda, Scientology... None of those "boogie-men" warrant breaking a system that others use for peaceful purposes. And google-bombing IS breaking the system... by a bunch of crybabies who can't deal with the fact that other people don't wish to THINK LIKE THEM!
I won't join their silly, self-righteous, and self-involved crusades.
Break your own damn computer.- ciejer, on 02/29/2008, -0/+4Firstly, nobody asked you to join any 'crusade'. No current projects were advertised, even in the comments...
Secondly, the term 'cry-baby' is definitely a poor term to use as nearly all the 'serious' (as in, not between personal friends or in organized competition) google-bombing has been presented by way of peaceful protest.
Thirdly, no systems were 'broken'. Ever. The worst crime that any google-bomber could be convicted of is libel.
Fourthly... loosen up a bit mate, its never hurt anybody, and if anyone was seriously looking for 'dangerous cult' (which I'd find quite unlikely, although I may be wrong), I am sure the second or third result in the search will still deliver what they are looking for. 2 seconds of time wastage. Maximum.

- brocori, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3did anyone else notice that the screenshot is actually a yahoo-bomb?
- 1033, on 02/29/2008, -2/+0Also noticed that it was a Bush basher, grow up. LIFE FAIL would be your google bomb. (hurry and digg down before too many people see the truth.)
- VSLOATHE, on 02/29/2008, -2/+4Why waste time doing this when you could make a ***** of money using the same method?
- darkism, on 02/29/2008, -1/+1Because Diggers hate money.
- aenima987, on 02/29/2008, -1/+2They forgot step 4- Profit
- Jalh, on 02/29/2008, -2/+2"liar" didn't work
