- locojones, on 10/12/2007, -6/+43Question 11 -- Why do dumbass blog postings like this continually make it to the front page when they have absolutely no worthwhile content?
Question 12 -- Should I "Mark As Lame" before or after I post my dissatisfaction? - Teaboy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23Apparently http://www.dailymotion.com is good too, and allows nudity.
- okokitsme, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12@forrestg "But once these kind of companies are acquired, it’s never be the same"
People also feared Flickr would lose its cool when Yahoo! bought it-and it's still got that cool, fresh, user-friendly and community creator feeling. - willcode4beer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11re:11, At least the blogger was smart enough to get some ads on his blog before getting digg'd.
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14I don't think Micorsoft bought it because they only make wise business investments....
I almost said that with a straight face. - cdharrison, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8My number one question would be: "Why did Google buy YouTube, and pass on the chance to buy MySpace?" Google passed on MySpace because, as John Battelle (http://battellemedia.com/archives/002684.php) put it, "it's the equivalent of pooping where you eat."
- drburk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Google bought contracts that came with Youtube, it got more than your dumb home videos.
Several of these 10 questions show only how thoughtless this guy is.
1. Will users stay with the recently scrubbed and censored Youtube or will they migrate to other alternatives? I asked a few people this… only 1 of them new about the scrubbing so yes is your answer people won’t know about it and therefore won’t care. Before you all jump on the I know train, I don’t care about you, you are exceptional users not average users who make up the bulk of youtubers.
5. Why is this the first company that Google has ever kept independent? Writely, the start of Google earth, Picasa, sketchup, to name a few started off left alone, it’s what google does. They actually played attention in leadership class when they were told people can’t handle more than 10% change a year and figured out that a purchase is a change and things need to calm down before doing anything.
6. There are a few theories on number five. I’m no lawyer, but if it’s kept as a separate legal entity, it might be able to limit any content liabilities to that entity? Is this a question?
9. Many people have asked “Why didn’t Microsoft buy Youtube?” I’ve never heard that question… It may be like asking why didn’t Microsoft make a good OS.
10. How long ago did these talks start? I’d say the answer isn’t important and you are nosey. - mileswillcod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4--Quote--
Why are the investment analysts and “major media” only allowed on the announcement conference call? Why not bloggers, why not the person, Michael Arrington, who broke the rumor and story in the first place?
--End Quote--
Because inevitably they'd be asked moronic questions like this.
They answer to their stockholders who own the company and get proper (i.e. actually read and appreciated, not necessarily correct) exposure through the major media. - robwistar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4why did zerock get buried? it's a legit question ... rupurt murdoch's company news corp, which also owns fox, bought myspace last summer.
- pauleric, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Hating MS and MS making wise business decisions isn't mutually exclusive.

http://duggmirror.com/tech_news/Google_Acquires_Youtube_10_Unanswered_Questions/ - ignavia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I uploaded a video to Google Video last night (for the first time) and after a brief period where I was told they were not accepting any new uploads, it went just fine and I never saw a message about review, and I was able to watch my video right away.
Maybe it's a new thing since the buyout? Maybe it's why uploads were temporarily disabled? Who knows? - noreturn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Question #11:
Why did you post such a poorly written list of the most stupid questions ever? - ga7sh, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6dailymotion kicks ass!
its got full episodes of all your favorite shows...well mine at least :) - MrSolutions, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you haven't had enough of this google youtube deal then here is some more:

Has a video of the cofounders too... - joshfraz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12. Why are the investment analysts and “major media” only allowed on the announcement conference call? Why not bloggers, why not the person, Michael Arrington, who broke the rumor and story in the first place?
Well, the code you need to listen to it is 2260624. Just call 888-203-1112 domestically or 719-457-0820 internationally. There you go Michael. - lexbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's a good point about the record company deals. Could this buyout mean Google is looking to create a iTunes killer (or at least a competitor)? Of course, Google could try that without buying YouTube. Hmmm...
- tomvendetta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why is #2 even a question? If you think logically, when main stream media is reporting on it they want to make sure that it is accurate. They dont want to report that Google is going to buy Youtube just for the deal to fall through, cause if that happens they lose credibility. If they take the information right from the horse's mouth than they keep their credibility. If that makes any sense.
- Redcooper02, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This part of the article says it all. It's the reason it should be dugg and what makes it historic:
Some critics say Google just bought itself a boatload of potential lawsuits. A good deal of video on YouTube is snatched off TV programs and movies by individuals and posted there — and that could be infringing on copyrights. But Google and YouTube both waved that off on Monday, pointing to the day's deals with CBS and record labels as proof that content owners would rather work with YouTube than take it to court.
"The copyright concerns are overblown," says Suranga Chandratillake, CEO of BlinkX, a video search engine that competes with Google Video. "Content owners are more interested in doing business than ever" for Internet video.
They see how powerful this new personal media can be. The rock band OK Go recently proved that. It made a simple video with a handheld video camera of its four members dancing on treadmills and posted the video on YouTube. In four weeks, the video was viewed more than 3.5 million times. As a result, OK Go's album saw a 182% jump on Billboard's Digital Album chart and shipped another 50,000 CDs.
"This is a paradigm smasher of the first order," says OK Go manager Jamie Lincoln Kitman.
In the grand scheme of things, the $1.65 billion Google is paying for YouTube doesn't rank high among the largest U.S. buyouts so far this year, tracker Dealogic says. The biggest was a deal in March by AT&T to buy BellSouth, valued at $67 billion at the time. Alcatel agreed to pay $13.4 billion for Lucent in April.
But when it comes to shaping the future, a couple billion dollars negotiated under Denny's fluorescent lights might be the winner. - 90sChild, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Those questions were unanswered for a reason... Nobody asked.
- DaRkSkye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1These are not questions about the aqcuisition! Poorly titled and a VERY boring read! How do these things make it to the front page?!?
- kavery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope I'm not alone in thinking that 'GooTube' sounds a bit sexual for a video site.
- SupaDawg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I have over 100 videos with 300,000 views and i expect nothing. I use them for their bandwidth. I have no intention of stopping that. I get no cost video bandwidth and they get content. Sounds fair to me.
http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=SupaDawg - edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Q11: Will they fix the utterly abysmal quality of googlevideo and youtube? Whilst it's a slight irritation to have to install a plugin (it's available separately from the player), Stage6 has SO much nicer videos. Even HD!
- greyghost487, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how about # 13 which is the 1.65 billion dollar question. How the hell will they make money on it, shove 30 second ads before every 15 second clip?
- NonPC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If they make YouTube anything like Google Video it will die a quick death. The whole "you're video will be available after it is reviewed by our staff" is the no.1 reason I never used Google Video. The search features are also much better in YouTube than Google Video. GooTube will probably suck.
- adila01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am surprised nobody is wondering what will happen to Google Video. I bet it will become more like an online source for Music, News, and other professional type of video's.
- kozie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Google isn't playing monopoly.
And those two streets would be _DIFFERENT_ streets. They might be in the same neighbourhood, but they aren't the same street. - johnvid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0SupaDwag, yes I know that was my initial reason for using them, I suppose i am just wondering how we can make money from our video's, as its hard to do, I will have to check out your vids, are they all yours?
- johnvbrennan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1When is the last time Microsoft made a serious investment in purchasing a web competitor? The last big Internet purchase that I can remember for Microsoft was Hotmail.com and that was quite a long time ago.
- ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@okokitsme
And it still creates losses. - lasdigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0YouTube is death!
- paulmike3, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2if your submission is good, it will make the front page without you having to spam other people's stories with it.
- drathan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Here's some answers to some of those 10 questions:
http://digg.com/tech_news/So_Google_bought_YouTube_Here_s_what_happens_in_the_next_six_months/ - willcode4beer, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Well, there was one smart thing about it. Even though $1.2B looks like a lot, it was that much in Google stock, which is over valued about 10x. Thus cutting the real price down to $120M, probably still too much money, but a small piece of Google equity.
- woodeee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1IMHO.. I think Google just jumped the shark
- mre5765, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4My wife asked me just now, WTF YouTube was after seeing the news of the acquisition on TV. I showed her a sample of the top viewed YouTube videos. Her response: "34 million Americans watch this thing every month, and we wonder why we have to go overseas to hire help". Oh by the way, her husband is one of those overseas help. :-)
- siMac, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0"8. Eric was forceful in the call about stating that these will remain seperate entities and curiously he asserted Google Video will become even more important. Am I the only one that is mildly confused by this statement?"
Ever play Monopoly? If you own Park Lane and the chance arises to buy Mayfair, do you do it?
Exactly. It makes both of them worth more. - johnvid, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Makes you wonder how Youtube can be sold, as they really dont own the Content, As I have about 32 videos on there, with about 15,000 views it would be nice to think we would get something out of this. Like when the building societies, where bought by the Banks.
http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=johnvid - zerock, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6doesn't fox own myspace?
- kdehead, on 10/12/2007, -18/+5"9. Many people have asked “Why didn’t Microsoft buy Youtube?” "
simple answer - Google are cooler than Microsoft. - forrestg, on 10/12/2007, -41/+6The answer to your question #1 is “users will start moving to other sites”. Till now, YouTube had the loyal users. It had some kind of persona. It had zeal. It had some kind of ingradient for addiction. But once these kind of companies are acquired, it’s never be the same.
