- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+92Why doesn't Google just acquire Earth itself and be done with it?
- wildfire, on 10/11/2007, -2/+29I hope they start super ultra-high resolution aerial imagery with nude beaches.
- jmnormand, on 10/11/2007, -1/+21in other news google just opened their new compound at the north pole and now knows if you been sleeping, they know if your awake, they know if your been bad or good, so be good for google sake?
- MavRevMatt, on 10/11/2007, -4/+19To continue with "other news"...
In other news Google just bought the United States of America for a reported 29.5 trillion dollars, it is expected to be branded beta shortly. - TVarmy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9New mission statement: "Don't be naughty"
- AlphaPrime, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I read the title and saw "Google Acquires America" and I thought, "well it was bound to happen sometime"
- CaptainWeasel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6drink cyanide, please
- TVarmy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6The thing is that, so far, Google has been an ethical company that's been consistently turning out good free services they continually improve. Microsoft practices aggressive business tactics, and many people feel like Windows is only popular because of the compatibility that comes with that popularity. Also, Microsoft runs on a different sort of economy than Google. When Microsoft releases a new OS, some people feel like they're being pushed to spend hundreds of dollars for a few new features that a service pack could have easily added. Google offers the vast majority of its services for free, paid for by ads. The consumer experience with Google feels like a gift more than a product.
- Firehed, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6What, normal porn doesn't suit your fancy? Now you need to be a creep with a satellite?
- aquadoctorbob, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5That would be badass. They'd index the planet and nobody would ever lose their keys again (unless they left the atmosphere which is unlikely)
- clempka, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Until Google does something that the people deem 'evil', there probably won't be very many. Microsoft has gone 'evil' a long time ago in the eyes of the public, that's why there are complainers for them.
- MasterGrief, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3What If You Had To Take Cyanide Quickly -- How Would You Do It? Here's EXACTLY How! Poor Ex-KGB Russian Agents are giving away their $12 "Cyanide In-A-Pill" - a suicidal edible that reveals one of the fastest ways to die in your home in the next 60 seconds! Get a FREE copy NOW!
- JoeDiggsIt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That's not painful enough.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Just turn "safe search" off.
- Fritzed, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Google? Is that you?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4In Other news, Google PWNS!
- carniv0re, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The same thing they try to do every night. Take over the world!
- TVarmy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2We all know Kim Jong Il is doing it. Google is just democratizing the technology.
(BTW, it's not a satellite that does the close to the earth, high res images. Those are done by planes. But it's fun to imagine a world where perverts can have fun with a satellite without the use of a TV service) - bnolsen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2the old image-america.com page got pulled and everything under it.
Any place to get more information on what their technology looks like? - KyjL, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3The thing with Microsoft was that whenever they sucked someone/something up they let it stagnate or just flat-out strangled it of life. Anything that Google has bought up, they let it behave just like as if it never even happened (YouTube). They hold up the "Do No Evil" thing pretty nicely.
- Atlantics, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Digg.
- Tanishh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Be careful what you wish for. Statistically speaking, a whole lot of people on those beaches will be old, obese, or any number of other things.
As long as it had good enough zoom or somethin to be able to filter out all the bad though I guess it wouldn't be too bad. - digitalstation, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2They aren't putting these camera's only on satellites. Google's gonna put them on airplanes, lots of them. Your maps will be updated every time United (based in SF) or Southwest flies by.
- leksdraven, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Smart move.
- yevar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.image-america.com
- Garfunkel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1hahah good on them, they don't ***** around with money.
They obviously are not worried about their little stock-price issue yesterday. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I wonder what will be their next step :-)
- ivosilva, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3I saw what you did.
- leomyhero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That's down right now, try this:
http://news.com.com/8301-10784_3-9748227-7.html - xeno439, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Just a step closer in Google's quest to become bigbrother.
http://www.bigbrotherless.com - DolFan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Big Ups for the "Pinky And The Brain" reference.
- ictoan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1haha i glance at the title and thought it was "google acquires america"
- richardiscool, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Or if they were penalised for having duplicate keys.
- Atlantics, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Can't you tell by the Michael Jackson image he has...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1The United States of Gamerica?
*and I'm not even commenting on the pronunciation of that* - kidcodea, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1google rooles
- Fritzed, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1The executive branch could really benefit from Google's motto
- delta013, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1In other news, Google makes a bid to acquire the NSA.
- Fritzed, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Wouldn't "Goonited States of America BETA" be a more obvious choice?
- catchkin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Hmm
- Official, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Stephen Chau, Project Manager of Google Maps and Earth said: "Since we're in the research and development phase right now it may be some time before you see any of this imagery in Google Maps or Earth"
http://news.taume.com/World-Business/Business-Finance/Google-Acquires-ImageAmerica-1955 - CryptiniteDemon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0They've been buying up companies like crazy this year. It's the reason their stock fell $50 almost the other day cause their earnings were down from buying so much and people thought they were buying too much.
I think it's cool. The company obviously has some great projects in place that will be free to all of us and they have more than enough cash to throw at anything they want to get their hands on. So buy on google! - iamlutheran, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Can they see me when I pray to Jesus? I most certainly would not like that...
- Cloudo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1well earth is not for sale yet otherwise they would have
- CryptiniteDemon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Give it another 20 years and you'll prolly see that or News Corp with the same headline.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2I can't *wait* until Google builds the world's most sophisticated and tied in surveillance system....and the federal gov't nationalizes it, ala their deals with MS.
Police state, here we come! :( - SuperSunny, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Google acquires the Executive Branch.
- tupperwareman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Google scares me sometimes.
But I suppose if I had so much money I'd buy everything as well.
Everything good anyways.
I wonder though how much innovation we're going to lose once everything is being run by the big G... - nectom, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3Yes, soon my friends very soon Gearth shall be a reality. Or should we call it Eargle?
