- complex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh, I see, it is on AdWords ads. Pretty cool.
- XStatic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Amazon did this several months ago:

Demo here:
http://www.estara.com/livedemo/a9/ - volatileacid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1search for: CARIBBEAN for example
- catullus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah. does anyone have an example search from google they can show us?
- doant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I would be terrible irritated if I had to take up all the fake phone numbers. they cant see you,you can see them sounds great.if you are bored just call a number and talk whit them for an hour and then say mm your product really sucks. also a great thing for all those lonely people all over the globe. the companies will get phone calls of sad people who just want to talk about there depression or about that there man or woman is cheating.
- billygreen23, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3the perfect prank calling service. great idea google.
- cecil_t, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Screenshots here:

But I wasn't able to duplicate the results on the same search term "refinance", I wonder if the companies either asked to be taken off the program or if it only shows up during their business hours or something. - thundercleese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd like an example search too...
- tomacco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So this is what they're gonna do with all that dark fiber.
- photophunk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Another service, Google never seems to stop. Great service, another cool product from Google.

I have privacy concerns. Besides if I still need to click and then enter my own number, I could have just dialed the damn thing.
+ digg - teh_toaster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1now for certain people, they will have
1. email address
2. street address
3. SSN
4. phone numbers
That's all i gotta say...for now - jcs_goog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Others are already doing this. Too bad for them that they didn't buy Skype, but then again perhaps they don't value Skype as much as eBay due to less synergies.
- nene7070, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0interesting concept
- digdeep666, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0this seems like an excellent joke:
click on an advertiser link for say erectile dysfunction, or suicide hotline and then type in your buddies cell phone number who happens to be in the other room and doesn't know whats going on, then sit back and listen to the confusion - Abduladu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"Others are already doing this" - "Google isn't the first" - "Google is just playing catch-up"
Google wasn't the first to do maps, local, messaging, and just plain search for that matter! But even though other companies are doing this already, hardly anyone even knew of it, am I right? It is the first I've heard of this concept. So just like many of Google's other services, it might not be a totally original idea, but they'll be the only ones to nail it on the head and actually get people to try it and like it. After they start to fine tune the idea, Yahoo and MSN will play catch-up and copy the idea.
Google just likes to try things to see if they materialize. This is just one of those things. I think it will work well for them, but they are obviously just testing the water.
And for those "Google is taking over the world" people, go use Yahoo and MSN because every time you get on your computer you have the choice. Google isn't being forced on you like Microsoft is. Have you noticed that for Google local listings, they actually give you the option of using Mapquest or Yahoo Maps in addition to Google Maps? When is the last time you saw Microsoft give you choice between them or someone else?? Google is taking over because of superior services. And...in part because of all the hype around their company. But still! - cecil_t, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Can't digg until I see a demo. I've tried a number of searches on google, google local, google mobile, etc. and haven't seen a phone icon or "click to call" or anything.
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Stupid spam links... Ahhh!
Mark that ass for spam. - CountZr0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I'd use it. Seems easier to look up a number for a company through google than the phonebook.
- amitrix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0worth a DIGG +_+
- merm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0these guys are friggen geniuses
- ht2k05, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0great idea...digg
- acontorer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I don't see any link nor icon for this. I looked in my search results, AdWords ads, and Google Local. Any hints on how to make these show up?
- 1337geek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0And i dont see the phone icon anywhere also, not in adwords or anything.
This is a good thing however, any increase in communications is a good thing. - tcybulski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0it doesn't seem like this service is for calling random people. it seems like its a service for ad-words folk, that google can connect them with someone who wants to talk to them. Its a neat concept, kinda like reverse-telemarketing. Instead of a do-not-call list, advertisers can wait for interested people to say "call me!"
- tcybulski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0also: the reason we might not be able to find examples of this is that advertisers have yet to sign up. If its a new service, it might be a couple of days to a week until advertisers put in their phone number and enable click-to-call.
- pemdasi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Google vs Yahoo Vs Microsoft is starting to remind me of the cold war. Insane spending on insane projects, waiting to see who will fold first.
- ct2000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0excellent now Google has your phone number too!
- -dXs-, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I'm getting very tired of the "google's plan to take over the world" comment on every google article posted.
Until Google announces they are trying to take over the world, i think it would be appropriate to stop saying such an ignorant comment.
This is actually really cool from a consumer's perspective, and it works for advertisers as well. I wonder if they'll have a phone number lookup service and implement Click-to-Call with it as well. I know Gtalk has VoIP but this is a real telephone call which gives it a more personal feel. - jonnyd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0it's bloody genius, although I can definitely see it getting abused--then again, no more so than any method of blocking one's phone number.
- Hergio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Actually, as I think about this, I can see Google instituting a nice way to keep the abuse down. When you submit a number, when it rings you, a Google-created message says:
"Hello, this is a call from Google AdSense (or whatever, Google ClickToCall). This number was recently submitted to be connected with an advertiser. Press 1 to accept and be connected, 2 to decline this invitation, or 3 to remove your number from being called for 90 days".
That'd curb it in no time. - ronin9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Well add one more Google feature to the story
http://digg.com/technology/Google_Games - kl9470spin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I really do not understand this? is it part of gtalk or? what.. i cant figure it out
- cricketman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0First cool thing they have done since Google Maps
- tcybulski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0clarification: click to talk is NOT part of the google local for mobiles. It is simply: Consumer clicks on a link next to an (presumably)ad-words advert, and inputs their phone number. Google then calls that person and subsequently calls the company that the advert was for and connects the two. thats it. Kind of an interesting idea, but only has to do with traditional search. not google talk (for now) and not google mobile.
- trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Thanks to xstatic Allen Car & Limo Service is also experiencing the digg effect on their phone line :^)
- m4v1s, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0huzzaah for google
keep those stock prices climbing, daddy needs a new pair of shoes - AdamCo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"In addition, we'll delete the number from our servers after a short period of time."
"In addition, we'll delete the number from our servers after a short period of time."
"In addition, we'll delete the number from our servers after a short period of time."
So they have your phone number for a short period of time. This phone number is tied to your IP address maybe, but it's not tied to your name. So they have just a phone number, with no name, on their servers for a short period of time. What are your privacy concerns? - gmgauthi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0zzzzzzzzzzzzz.....
- bloggerbrigade, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0click 2 talk is part of google local - mobile version, hence no need to download anything:
mobile.google.com/local
see my comment above. ;-) [why is there so much confusion about the new feature they released? - TKDWILSON, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1""""I don't see a place to download this... or is it part of Google Talk?""""
Read the article before asking dumb questions.

Yeah... and we all know how far THEY took this "technology". - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0> This coule be one of those classic Google pranks
> to get everyone's tongue wagging :-)
It's not April 1st?
Humm... *thinks about it for a second*, you know you just might be right.
To do this right, I would expect google to use their ICANN registrar privileges and ***** of cash to make that all elusive ".tel" TLD actually happen (people have been trying since 2000 and before). CALLTO: can't be disambiguated and is HIGHLY dependent on which VoIP client the end user has running. Something like CALLTO://anonymoustroll.tel could work across multiple VoIP clients. Who knows, maybe 2006 will be the year that POTS is finally absorbed into the internet.
circa 2004 (haven't heard anything since):
http://www.sitepoint.com/print/domains-launched-icann
[...]
.tel – two competing interests have sponsored the .tel TLD. Pulver.com of Melville, New York and Telname Limited of London, England. According to the Telname Website, "The purpose of .TEL will be to provide individuals and businesses a text-based naming and navigation structure for the Internet-Communications space: any individual or business will be able to initiate communications or access services simply by inputting AdamSmith.Tel or Hertz.Tel on their Internet-enabled communications device."
[...] - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0> click on an advertiser link for say erectile dysfunction,
> and then type in your buddies cell phone number who
Oh, great... google paid-for VoIP link-up spam; thanks for inventing that, assh*le.
Say... I wonder how much money I could make with an Indian VoIP link-up army? - etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@rirath
Actually, I think "phone company" is exactly what Google wants to do. They're incredibly brazen and powerful, and given the opportunity, they wouldn't think twice about revolutionizing telecommunications. If Google comes out with "Google Phone", a free VOIP service, you can bet the major telecommunications carriers will take notice and cry foul.
...and that's what Google is all about - god bless em. - Hergio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"No digg ... because they didn't invent this"
Who's claiming they invented this? Google sure isn't.
Neat idea, I can see it being abused alot, more so than with all these other companies that have had it already, mainly becaue the sheer availability Google will give it since their ads are EVERYWHERE.
But I'll digg it because its gonna generate some revenue and because there are gonna be some funny prank phone calls. - TopDog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This coule be one of those classic Google pranks to get everyone's tongue wagging :-)
they have done it before! - LoneStar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0that's very nice, i (heart) google
