- nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -8/+309GoDaddy is REALLY shady. I have used godaddy a few times and the last time I used them they kept asking if I wanted to use their anonymous domain registration (where your WHOIS info is a godaddy office that forwards letters/emails). I said "no" about 5 times and after registering the domain I suddenly got dozens of "bills" for my new domain and all my old godaddy domains that were actually "ads" designed to look exactly like a bill including a tear-off stub and a "this must be paid by XX/XX/XXXX to avoid late fees". I hate godaddy. Godaddy is a go-drunk who go-abuses go-mommy and has go-molested go-me.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+164hey Kevin, i know GoDaddy.com helps pay for diggnation, but if this is indicative of their practices you may want to distance yourself from this brand. I don't want Diggnation to go down by association.
- Pepper, on 10/12/2007, -12/+141I would hate for Godaddy to do this to my domains.
- djbell, on 10/12/2007, -9/+103Let's see if this story gets censored with GoDaddy being a DiggNation's main sponsor.

loose != lose
loose = your mom
lose = your virginity in 2020 - jus1haz2, on 10/12/2007, -8/+79I dont know why people think godaddy is so good, their a ***** ripoff. 16 dollars for a domain with privacy whereas 1and1 does it for 5.99 (Domain and Privacy) I dont host with either of those I chose dreamhost for that. I mean seriously godaddy is a ***** ripoff and an attention whore with all thier super bowl *****.
Oh and beware of registerfly as well http://www.digg.com/offbeat_news/Guys_domain_is_stolen_by_his_own_registrar - Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -3/+60Agreed. Honestly, I don't know why people buy from GoDaddy considering their commercials - any company that has to use sex to sell their product is either selling an inferior product or doesn't trust in their corporate reputation to sell the product. Or they're selling sex. Which, since the internet is for porn, I suppose they are...
:/ - rally1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+53Digg it up so they can talk about it on DiggNation.... sponsored by GoDaddy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+44but kevin and alex use godaddy, they can't be bad?!?!?.... world... collapsing...
- pooper, on 10/12/2007, -5/+44Their commercials suck, period. I don't know why they spent how many millions to make a ***** superbowl commercial like that anyway... and that girl was damn ugly...
- Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38Right, which explains why they sent an e-mail to the address that was reported as invalid instead of sending it to the email address on file and/or calling the phone number they had on file.
Did you even RTFA? - MeatBiProduct, on 10/12/2007, -25/+62are you guys stupid and not understand that this was the owner of the domains problem?????
christ. Heres how it works.
***** #1 registers a site with fake details. Spams 60 million websites with form/forum trash - then sends out another billion emails.
User #1 Reports said company - Godaddy (OR ANY REGISTAR) has to legally verify their domains contact details. email being the primary method of contact for ALL reigstars.
***** #2 Registers familyalbum.com and never updates his details.
User #2 doesn't like his site - or tries to contact him - can't contact him - contacts the registar and submits 'incorrect/fake detail complain on the domain'
Registar contacts domain owner.
Domain owner never responds.
Domain is assumed to be falsely registered and under law is taken out of the registar database. Even even has a 3 week holding time in which you can get your domain back. I know this cause it happened to me.
What this poor bastard did was - loose his expensive domain - then cry about it.
He should have - contact godaddy - contacted his lawyer - and stayed the ***** off the internet gossip line until its resolved. - Disclaimer, on 10/12/2007, -6/+40Damn. I have about a hundred domains with GoDaddy, all of them with an invalid mailing address. :|
- Jeffler, on 10/12/2007, -6/+38Thats biased. You didn't use quotes for sucks.
Results 1 - 10 of about 1,130,000 for godaddy is the best.
Results 1 - 10 of about 822,000 for godaddy rocks.
Results 1 - 10 of about 225,000 for godaddy sucks.
Results 1 - 10 of about 794 for "godaddy sucks".
Results 1 - 10 of about 657 for "godaddy rocks".
Results 1 - 10 of about 400 for "godaddy is the best".
Stop ***** with facts. - mathmanjeffy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33@carguy,
Any commonly used phrase can be a potentially valuable domain if used and marketed correctly.
If you don't see Family Album as commonly used, then I can only assume your parents didn't love you as a child. - rohanrns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24http://www.nodaddy.com where we speak out against GoDaddy and discuss alternatives.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25They don't think godaddy's so good, they just know about it due to good marketing strategies. You don't have to be good when nobody knows your competitions' name.
- nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18@techreads
The website wasn't implemented, so you can assume it didn't get a lot of traffic. How can you not see that the domain "familyalbum.com" is valuable. If you owned it, how much would you be willing to sell it for? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -15/+31It's not entirely GoDaddy's fault. They have responsibilities to the ICANN-be-a-dickhole. Whois information is supposed to be kept valid, up-to-date and available to spammers, stalkers and anonymous *****.
This is quite a scary thought (from a comment on the page):
"Person tries e-mailing domain owner with Whois information and e-mail bounces. Person backorders domain and then sends complaint to GoDaddy. GoDaddy tries to contact only via e-mail, which bounces. Domain is canceled and given to person with backorder." - etienne202fm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Yea godaddy isn't the greatest, but they ALL suck. I'm using godaddy as being the least evil of them all.
Back in 2005 someone pretexted my info and got ALL my domains (20+).
I LOST ALL MY DOMAINS. I called godaddy up, they wouldn't even talk to me. I begged them to look at the domain history, all my info was there. They replied, how do we know YOU are not the hacker. They told me to contact a domain lawyer, WTF, ***** YOU GODADDY! WOULDN'T EVEN LOOK AT DAMM PURCHASE HISTORY, OR CHECK PREVIOUS INFO???>
STILL SO ***** UPSET ABOUT IT
GODADDY WITH ALL THE OTHER DOMAIN HOSTS SUCK MONKEY BALLS
I'm still using them though, LOL Just made sure ALL my info is super secret so I can't be pretext. - tagawa, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20@dcjoedog
I second that. - USAOwnz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Stop spamming then, if you want your story to be dugg, well then good luck.
Spamming sucks. - opensourcemaven, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13agreed. Imma just waiting for this to get buried. Kevin, we're watching you.. just like that time you did the ish (yes, we know you like the greeny green).
- Sc0rian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10i hope kevin and alex bring this up on diggnation.
- dougbdl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I registered my name (actual name) at GoDaddy. I had it for about a month and then it disappeared! I called go daddy and they said the credit card was denied. I said it was a mistake and I could give another card, Godaddy said no and that I had to buy it off of their holding company for $200. I told them to go to hell.
I don't do business with shady companies anymore. I love the Internet because reputations get around.
Best Buy anyone? Now add Go Daddy. - metafore, on 10/12/2007, -11/+20meatbiproduct == my hero, on multiple layers. he's right.
i'd also like to add that registrars are typically servants of satan, so buyer beware. if you're running a business, try not to cut corners on ***** like this. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+18Umm, go ahead and digg me down if you want to, but I've been a customer with godaddy for over two years now and I've never had a single problem. I use them for about twenty domains and two hosting plans and anytime I needed help their customer service was nothing short of amazing. They're cheap and effective for common internet registration/usage if you ask me. Granted, I've always heard complaints about their hosting services being slow, but it's not like I'm hosting Digg on my server...
Anyways, enough kissing ass... the point is.... with any online company such as godaddy, you'll typically hear both sides of the "they suck/they're great" argument no_matter_what. Just use at your own discretion.
BTW if you are going to use them, be sure to use the coupon code "saveten" at the checkout page and you'll get 10% off... it's a little money saving tip I heard about a while ago. - Futurepower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8GoDaddy stories on Slashdot.org:

Nice attempt at looking smart, but you failed. Your corrections are moot as the post wasn't--nor was meant to be--a complete sentence anyway. Standard stylistic rules need not apply. The author was breaking grammatical constructs anyway; failing to capitalize becomes more of a choice.
Now, if you really wanted to correct the user's statement you would have written:
Loose - a description of your mom.
Lose - what you will do with your virginity in 2020.
A colon(:) would also be acceptable in place of the hyphen(-), but since we are not dealing with complete sentences, and thus rigid grammar, my style choice is the hyphen as I feel it provides a more "dictionary"-like feel and is more fitting for the situation. The subordinate clauses are punctuated as they are for the same reason. A capital letter would make it appear to be a sentence, which it clearly is not, but the lack a trailing period would make it appear incomplete.
The moral of the story, of course, is that grammar is not as rigid as you'd have it be and that you are a very big ass--although perhaps not quite as big as me. ;) - slalomskier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Lets make this simple. Digg this up so much that it would HAVE to be mentioned on diggnation. If they don't address the issue, we know everything is censored. There was a Diggnation episode in which they clearly stated that they would only say the required tidbit required by the sponsor, and then they would express their true opinions. This was in reference to the Microsoft Zune. If this is true, they surely would bring up this digg story in the next episode.
- topbob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8digg.com is registered through godaddy, be careful what you post here. LOL?
- garyh84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Well no crap!
They threatened to take mine away about a year ago, so I quickly transfered my domain. It wasn't because of invalid information either, it was because of 'RAM usage' on my hosting. Even after staying on hold with them, contacting them through email, etc. they wouldn't answer my question about it.
Turns out that it wasn't a RAM problem at all, and every time I talked to them they just said 'upgrade to dedicated server' and that was it. Ever since I changed i have had no problems with the so called 'RAM usage'. - quaeler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Trevor Brown had his original domain usurped by GoDaddy as well:
http://www.pileup.com/babyart/pages/*****.htm - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"Try googling 'godaddy sucks'."
eh, try that with just about any company. there is always someone who is going to say a brand sucks. - opensourcemaven, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11@noahhoward: is that what a soon to be father says? dude, chill out this is digg.
from your blog thingy: "I'm currently juggling 9-5 fun, a pregnant wife.." - jus1haz2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7That would be pretty funny...
- kickstar1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6godaddy better step up. that's freaking lame.
- Modulo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5yes, it is, and no, sorry, you effing don't.
- ricepudd, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11In that case, perhaps we should send an email to fvofkjgnksnvvj90809iwv@digg.com... when it bounces, complain to godaddy and see if they take away digg's domain :-)
- nogami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You get what you pay for...
I use register.com for my domains. It's more expensive, but I've never had any issues with them, or their DNS hosting. I also use "domain discreet" for my domains, to make all of the DNS info anonymous (I can be an opinionated bastard :P).
N. - Ender0910, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I use godaddy currently for a few of my domains. Stuff like this scares me.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a solid, cheap domain registrar? I'm always afraid of having a company disappear on me overnight or something.
Also, what's the process of moving domains from one registrar to the next? Another fear is GoDaddy holding my domains hostage. - jcaino, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8that's really *****.
now, look - you can (and likely should) digg this down, but...
i work for a web hosting company. anyone familiar with me or my posts probably knows that by now, i'm proud of the company i work for (notice here, you have never seen anyone claiming to work for godaddy...or dreamhost...or...)
but seriously, how does godaddy get away with this *****? legally or not - why would customers keep going there? i guess people see the low $ and go "HEY! YEA! Cheap *****!"
And that's exactly what they get.
Go to somewhere that gives a *****, that answers your e-mails in a professional, but personal manner.
There aren't many places that you can get that from. I know one for sure. - democracysucks, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14When you suggest that someone needs to retake "english," you should perhaps capitalize it so you don't look like a moron. Oh, yeah, and the rest of your post was great example of horrible English, as well.
Please stop sucking. And please tell me your wife isn't pregnant. - wooptoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I recently (last week) checked if a domain is available for registration using GoDaddy (the domain name was something like XXYYYY, where xx is some number and yyyy are letters). It was, with all the extensions. When rechecking this week, guess what? The domain was already registered by some obscure company (like the ones that buy domains like "googalle" or "yutube" and put a crappy site on it that tells you to buy back the domain). I'm highly disappointed. :(
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I had no problem with GoDaddy until they started running those obnoxious ads.
- aemaeth7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Try to register a domain 'godaddysucks' at any domain. The search will always fail with godaddy in the URL =).
- mjrpes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@fkr2
Some registrars are now offering a privacy service, where they will display their info on the whois instead of yours. I am using stargate for my domains, and they offer this service for free. When you do a whois, it shows a link to privacyprotect.org, and if a person wants to contact you they can go to this website and fill out an online form that will send the message to you. - boomerxl, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12@democracysucks
Yeah, you can poke fun at him for having made mistakes while commenting on someone else's English skills.
Yeah, you can insult him.
Hell, you can even make it personal.
You CAN do all of these things, it doesn't mean you have to, especially making it personal. - mathmanjeffy, on 10/12/2007, -13/+18@Crumbles,
... oh! Sex jokes. I get it, that's pretty original. - quux, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9@noahhoward:
The point is that if you're going to be a dick and degrade something for it's poor grammar, you'd better be on the high ground. If your English goes to ***** at 4:00 in the morning, then don't ***** post.
You problems were a little more than a couple of misspelled words:
"There are plenty of reasons to bury this article, for starters the author needs to go back to school and retake english."
-- Here we have two sentences begging to be separated by a period.
"That is a horribly written article."
-- This would be your second point. The use of 'Next, ' here would have been a good choice. Also, the structure is a little awkward. Turn the sentence around, maybe? "Next, the article was poorly written."
"Next, it is inaccurate the artice makes it sound like GoDaddy just stole the domain and profited it, the truth is the domain was reclaimed when they couldn't contact the guy and the author doesn't knwo for certain what was done with it."
-- What a doozy! This is your final point, so start with 'Finally, '. You need at least two more periods in this stream of consciousness. You have a couple of misspellings. You're missing words.
Wait a second. I think I get it now. Your post was a joke. A troll, if you will, to bring out us Grammar Nazis. Well played, sir. The egg has been placed squarely on my face! -
