- CrazySpaniard, on 05/01/2009, -3/+331I like how the fact that we cannot use .tv domain names is more important than the fact that an entire island is sinking
- WayOutWest, on 05/01/2009, -14/+246I did not know .tv represented an Island nation.
- roastedbagel, on 05/01/2009, -2/+142 I gotta say, it's nice seeing a cool tech related story on the front page of Digg. Reminds me of old times.
- mclewell, on 05/01/2009, -2/+86"now you know" to quote Bill Nye
- CrazySpaniard, on 05/01/2009, -1/+83AND KNOWING IS HALF THE BATTLE
- advancedOption, on 05/01/2009, -8/+75Tuvalu is not sinking, the oceans are rising, and it's highest elevation is only 4.5 metres.
- IWDA4, on 05/01/2009, -0/+59Actually the real reason is that .tv is currently being operated by dotTV, a VeriSign company. As of now, only 20% of the TLD is owned by the Tuvalu government. The reason that GoDaddy is trying to convince people not to buy domains under the .tv TLD is because the 12 contract that the Tuvalu government signed with dotTV ends in 3 years. There is currently a dispute of what might happen to the popular TLD afterwords, for it has become very popular since it is an abbreviation of "television." Of course, I just learned this all about 8 minutes ago on wikipedia.
- megaton, on 05/01/2009, -1/+45Not only that, but they don't expect it to be totally screwed until 2100, so whatever domain you buy now probably won't matter by then.
- Lostsurferboy, on 05/01/2009, -0/+36It's being reported on
- TylerDuhrdan, on 05/01/2009, -8/+43Blog post should read "Dont buy from Godaddy, because they suck dog balls"
***** at Godaddy, I hate those ***** suckers. - manitoba98xp, on 05/01/2009, -0/+32A neat tip: you could have used this link:

YouTube automatically skips to 6:00. :) - kalascritic, on 05/01/2009, -1/+32the actual battle.
- jobobshishkabob, on 05/01/2009, -0/+28He means old old digg. Pure tech. Good times...
- Traiklin, on 05/01/2009, -1/+25what's the other half?
- inactive, on 05/01/2009, -0/+24Not just an island, but a whole archipelago. It's also nearly inevitable that once the land base is gone, the Tuvaluan language and culture will die out as well.
- diggydougie, on 05/01/2009, -1/+24I'm not drowning, I'm just chained to the bottom of the pool and it's filling up.
- cyrix, on 05/01/2009, -2/+23Wow...I never wondered what the other half was. mind=blown.
- NathanielJ, on 05/01/2009, -0/+20Good thing you gave up on it -- you might be a bit disappointed when you realize that there's a grammatical error in your website address.
- TrouserJazz, on 05/01/2009, -0/+18WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE DOMAINS?!?!!
- Rubis1, on 05/01/2009, -2/+20killing people.
- CrazySpaniard, on 05/01/2009, -0/+18I went to GoDaddy to buy www.hastuvalusankyet.tv and make a little joke website
turns out it costs an extra $50 just because it is .tv (all of the other ones are ~$15)
I gave up on my joke =( - carterx, on 05/01/2009, -3/+20www.sinkingisland.tv
- TVarmy, on 05/01/2009, -3/+19Global warming denial argument 65: The icecaps aren't melting, the continents are just sinking because people are so fat these days.
- DjBlic, on 05/01/2009, -3/+18Hmm, maybe if I start stockpiling, these domains might actually be a collectors item. First collector domain anyone?
- illTech, on 05/01/2009, -3/+17and this matters why? its not like only islanders could buy the .tv domains. Sucks for them but if the island does get submerged it doesnt take it's TLD's with it.
- MScrip, on 05/01/2009, -1/+15To explain further... add:
#t=3m23s
to skip to 3 minutes and 23 seconds - CrazySpaniard, on 05/01/2009, -0/+14holy ***** you're right
sunk* - AntiInsight, on 05/01/2009, -1/+14I officially recognize SeaLand as a sovereign state.
- NathanielJ, on 05/01/2009, -1/+13Wouldn't IANA retire the .tv domain name if the country to which it belongs no longer exists?
- Atario, on 05/01/2009, -1/+13You shouldn't have admitted that. On the Internet, no one can tell you were ill-informed till just now.
- glacierfanclub, on 05/01/2009, -2/+13Is it going to switch from .tv to .atl?
- a3r0, on 05/01/2009, -1/+12We still have .su and some other non-existent TLDs
- light50, on 05/01/2009, -0/+11Ive been to Tuvalu. The climate is amazing. It's a crazy atoll. The international flight is like a 12 twelve seater that arrives every Thursday. Every other day the airstrip serves as the islands main road / sports pitch. Awesome people, it will be a terrible loss if Tuvalu is flooded. I can't imagine my whole country vanishing like that..
- carterx, on 05/01/2009, -0/+11http://www.namecheap.com/
$17.99 per/.tv domain - Pottersquash, on 05/01/2009, -0/+10Tuvalu?? Leo Laportes got some splainin to do.
- sunshinelife, on 05/01/2009, -0/+9Don't buy .com domains!
Because the sun will eventually engulf the planet Earth, we are doomed. - dlllb, on 05/01/2009, -0/+8That sounds like a rape website O_O
- MarkOfTheDead, on 05/01/2009, -0/+8Address not found, you should register it!
- spookyttws, on 05/01/2009, -5/+13...I've had quite a positive experience with them over the years..
- cmw72, on 05/01/2009, -3/+11http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4GfDx_W-PE
Skip to about 6:00. - NewTV, on 05/01/2009, -1/+9This is not new news. When it comes to DotTV, it doesn't matter if the island of Tuvalu is sinking or the oceans are rising; all of the dotTV's infrastructure is located in Virginia and controlled by Verisign. GoDaddy doesn't have a clue and their false propaganda is not going to stifle the .tv extension. If they didn't believe in it, they should stop offering it completely and stop utilizing it--right now they are trying to drum up business for other gimmicky tlds like the .me extension.
- comrademikhail, on 05/01/2009, -2/+9Who else did a WhoIs on the domain to make sure Nodaddy.com wasn't registered with GoDaddy?
- jgubbe, on 05/01/2009, -0/+7But whats funny is that your comment has 68 Diggs at the moment when in "old times" 68 Diggs was the Best article all week.
- beesaretasty, on 05/01/2009, -3/+9"And knowing is half the battle" to quote GI Joe
- dlllb, on 05/01/2009, -0/+6Not me but I commend your contribution to the team.
- mattharvey716, on 05/01/2009, -3/+9combination of both?
- JRowe3388, on 05/01/2009, -2/+7And apparently .fm is the country code top-level domain for the Federated States of Micronesia
- TylerDuhrdan, on 05/01/2009, -5/+10I had quite the experience with them 2 months ago, they deleted 11 of my domains and wanted me to pay an extortion rate to get them back. I told godaddy to ***** off, disputed the charges for the domains on my card, took the chance and let the domains delete, then picked them up at Moniker. Godaddy will never see a penny from me again.
We all learn the hard way sometimes, I got lucky by not loosing my domains. - Elranzer, on 05/01/2009, -0/+5What you can learn in 8 minutes on Wikipedia is often the equivalent of a semester of a college class. And often less inaccurate and biased.
