- avatarpalin, on 10/12/2007, -10/+229meh,I was hoping for boobs....
- ggypsy, on 10/12/2007, -13/+215They didn't do the same lame *****. This is entirely new lame *****. See, the OLD lame ***** had decent eye candy, while this just had doughy office drones and jokes my third-grade cousin wouldn't bother to make.
- Xageroth, on 10/12/2007, -8/+156That's it? ... that was pretty tame. TV has stricter standards than I remember.
- loveandrockets, on 10/12/2007, -26/+158I'm glad it was denied. Nothing like a good INCEST JOKE when you're sitting around with family and friends at a Superbowl party.
- Anrkist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+110"Lets tell everyone this was banned and put it out on the internet, they will watch our commercial if we do!"
- pcghost, on 10/12/2007, -27/+89Come on, not exactly family-friendly, but it was funnier than most commercials and quite well targeted. People need to lighten up. Damn puritans.
- unicornhunter, on 10/12/2007, -47/+95Isn't it about time they stop doing the same lame ***** for attention every year?
- BortQ, on 10/12/2007, -6/+45Their 1.99 advertised price is *****. For one year when you buy some hosting or something from them. You can't actually get that price when you just want to buy a domain.
And they say it's easy? godaddy makes you go through pages and pages, even when you select 'quick checkout'.
I still use them, but... they could be better. - Spanktacular, on 10/12/2007, -7/+27It's not a Puritanical thing, it's a brains thing. That ad was just plain dumb.
- diggenerate, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Here is the first one. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4503542146793702190&q=super+bowl+go+daddy
- osc1882, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19... it just wasn't funny. I'm sorry. I wish it was. But it just wasn't.
- Wandel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16It got rejected for "I already did my mother"?
Man, Americans are even more uptight than I thought. - mahdaeng, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14yeah, because in other countries, "doing your mother" is highly acceptable
- Phil246, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12@mahdaeng

Dug down for not checking your facts before making yourself look retarded - Iroxorsju, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16I personally think that FCC sucks. Commercials from overseas are much better. US T.V. is so restricted what does it hurt anyway?
- Nitro187, on 10/12/2007, -8/+18Why is it, that people keep submitting videos in the NON-Video section? There's a section JUST for videos.... WHY DON'T THEY US IT!!
Digg should automatically change videos to go there instead. - ngageguy, on 10/12/2007, -18/+27lame ad
- Markpdotcom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9So they aren't funny... big deal.. they are very very tame and imply a little innuendo. They'd be fine for broadcast in any other country in the world... well maybe not Afghanistan... America goes nuts over anything slightly sexual like this... but at the same time has the largest porn industry in the world and constantly allows their teens to go running off after finals for "girls gone wild" type holidays.
I just don't get it. Why are Americans so ashamed of themselves? - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -12/+20I find the American version hilarious.. but everyone has their own opinion. "Awkwardness" doesn't equal "better" in my book..
- kirakun, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I would think it's actually family-friendly too since how many kids would really get the innuendo?
- icky, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Since JymBrittain is the only one who seems to understand this, let me again point out that the "government" does not engage in any sort of rejection of content for television (or radio, for that matter) in advance of things being broadcast.
The US Congress passes laws that are then signed by the President - these laws set out the rules for indecency in the country. Specifically, the law says that it is a violation of federal law to air obscene programming at any time and that it is a violation of federal law to air indecent programming or profane language during certain hours. Congress has granted the FCC the authority to act after the fact on these standards and to further define what obscene, indecent, and profane mean. In the past, many cases have been heard by the US Supreme Court regarding the FCC's definition of these terms and the Court has supported, among other things, that "contemporary community standards" be part of the equation. The idea here is that the rules should be tied back to the people and what they will or won't tolerate on average.
The FCC is not allowed to review things before they air. Even if ABC had asked them to approve content for broadcast, they would have declined. ABC themselves could have rejected the ad but I highly doubt GoDaddy bothered to send it to them. Clearly GoDaddy makes these commercials for internet viewing only and that works for them. The fact that people assume the ads have been banned just works to their benefit - there are plenty of folks (Digg readers, apparently) that like watching the stuff and the word banned just escalates the interest.
Should ABC or some other broadcaster air something that appears to violate the standards of federal law, the FCC still cannot act against the broadcast unless private citizens file formal complaints. Once a complaint has been filed, the FCC is forced to review it and compare the broadcast to federal law and make a ruling. They may determine the broadcast was fine or that it violated federal law in which case they are empowered by Congress to fine broadcasters, warn them, or revoke their license to broadcast.
The important point to be made about this system is that the American people are in a position of control here. It is only complaints from citizens that force the FCC to act. We may be dismayed that there are so many puritanical people in the country but it is what it is. If you wish to change societal attitudes about all thing sexual and are successful, the same societal pressure can change how the FCC acts and even encourage our elected representatives to change the laws. - doubleyoube, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If thats ban-worthy in the US, i can happily say whoever is in charge of telly censoring is a bit of a prude. In the UK we have boobs and swearing during the day. An example would be during the news a while ago when they showed the advert for holland that they show to immigrants. there were nekid ladies and people smoking weed and gays getting their gay on.
- bossm4n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It should have been rejected on the basis of godaddy being such a crappy host.
- MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I don't think the aim of GoDaddy commercials is to get them aired. It is pretty obvious that they design them to get DENIED so that there's a big controversy on the internet... which just so happens to be where their market is.
- Phil246, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9I didnt find it all that funny.
My sense of humour is more orientated towards irony and sarcasm, rather then purile innuendo. - b_flats, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Great rants, but the Super Bowl is on CBS this year.
- cakesale, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5wtf? i think that was a good commercial, dougy dougy dougy...
- NJank, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5not 'superbowl worthy', but not entirely lame. There was almost a chuckle heard in this room. that puts it well above many other ads out there. By the way, was the first 'rejected' ad ever posted online?
- gidiv, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6really is tateless, this coming from a guy in college with really low standards for humor.
will not be dugg - Wonderkind, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"I already did my mother" is not slightly sexual, it's just childish.
This is the cheap stuff that made The Man Show go off the air.
It's Beavis and Butthead humor. - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well.. it's particularly strict now during the superbowl.. ever since the "OMG WARDROBE MALFUNCTION!!" incident.
The studios get automatically fined $300,000 now for each incident of any obscene act. - LVsFINEST, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Where is the first one?
- Recluse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Cause it sucks?
- MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Family-friendly? Yes, this is far below all those high-minded beer commercials featuring bikini-clad, highly objectified women. This commercial wasn't exactly "funny", but I'm tired of people pretending as if the Super Bowl is the big family event.
People get drunk, eat nachos, and between fart-joke laden Buddweiser ads, they see football. It's not Jeopardy!, or Blue's Clues, it's football. It's dudes, most of them tattooed and barely capable of stringing together an intelligent sentence for the post-game interview, running around in tight-fitting, padded clothing, trying to wrestle other dudes to the ground. Who's watching it? Yup, other dudes. Maybe their wives or girlfriends are watching too, but only if Desperate Housewives (also not wholesome) is a re-run. If they have kids, the kids are there too.
Can we drop the act? There's just nothing about football culture that's particularly wholesome. Janet Jackson's quasi-exposed breast is not that different from the nearly exposed breasts of all the cheerleaders and semi-nude women in the beer commercials, or the girls in bikini's playing volleyball on the beach in Sandals commercials, and certainly none of that is as bad as the barrage of beer, pizza, and cola commercials that contribute to America's youth being the fattest, drunkest, and dumbest it's ever been. - dengzhi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3youtube link since their site is faster than godaddy's http://youtube.com/watch?v=4JHGCd_9U5E
- Gutterpunk, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9@ galaad2 : You really are a master deducter!
(not) - Y0tsuya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Every country has its hang-ups. For the U.S., it's sex on TV.
- Jadinlee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This wasn't denied... its a publicity stunt to begin drawing attention to their Superbowl commercial (the real one). Its basically a commercial for a commercial. Don't worry, the go daddy girl will be back for the real thing during the SB.
- diggermike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That commercial was bad, but it did what "Go Daddy" wants. How many of us went to the site to watch it? Plus all "Go Daddy" has to do is running a little 30 second ad during the Super Bowl (Is the NFL going to come after me for using the name Super Bowl?) saying "Go to "GoDaddy.com" to see the commercial that the censors didn't want you to see tonight!" and people will log on thinking they are going to see something sexy with Candice Michelle or Danica Patrick. I will say one thing for the add it finally shows people who are not as internet smart as the people on this site what "Go Daddy" offers users.
- aargh01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Humpass? The guys last name is Humpass?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i dont get it, whats wrong with that commercial?
- kibmcz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3WOW.... that was tame.
- h2ogun99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3As a marketing manager, what we witnessed was a clever attempt to trick us into watching a commercial. If I were a betting man I would say that this commercial was not banned, or even submitted. The word "banned" will get anyone to watch. Clever, but not what it seems. I might have to try that! Beware of a video with "banned" in the title, it might just be a worthless commercial from me!
- arafoz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Maybe elementary school age kids wouldn't, but by the time they get midway through Junior High, most kids know the jokes, and what they're referring to."
If this is the worst thing you've heard by the time you're in junior high, you're living a pretty sheltered life. Under a rock. - Nitro187, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Oh my god... I just realized my previous comment.... "Why don't they US it" wow... just wow. So this is what it's like being on this side of things....
- dcharti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hooray for encouraging the waste of domains and squatting.
- Keyframe3D, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2the girl is hot though
- James2008, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, superbowl commecials are of better quality. Can't have this junk.
- kickasspodcast, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4not funny
- GamerzCorner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You guys do all know the intention of Go-daddy was to get denied...Think about it.
Instead of paying millions of dollars for a Super Bowl T.V. Spot they make a 30 sec video that cost them pennies to make with the intention of getting denied and then when they do get denied it blows up all over the Internet and they get free advertising...
It may seam lame or stupid but I think it's very keen to say the least. -
