- johnhummel, on 10/10/2007, -6/+24Maybe, it doesn't hurt to remind people in case there are newbies to the net. I have a weekly article for my coworkers we publish on our internal wiki called "Scam of the Week", where I show people things like this so at least they know. You'd be surprised how often I've had people go "Hey, I got an email from [insert bank here] telling me my account is canceled, and I don't even have an account there!" So I figure it doesn't hurt me any to tell them, even if they already know about it.

- tholder, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Only a complete idiot says things like that. There's no shame in not knowing something, it's important people who are less technically minded (you know, normal folk that have girlfriends and stuff) are educated to these risks.

- Myonosken, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4To be fair, this is a bit more sophisticated than "There is a pigeon in your bank account, we need your details and sort code so that we can enter the vault, move the pigeon and tidy up the monies".
- TVarmy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I was so going to say that! I'm glad I'm not the only Fonejacker fan. It better get a second season.

- pbaehr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+49I was going to say that the average Digg user probably doesn't need a warning about this, but then I started to think about some of the recent submissions on the front page and changed my mind.

- BelgainRoffles, on 10/10/2007, -11/+2Why is this on the front page?

- garethrr1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Hey,
Well, you see..... This site, "Digg", has all these people who look at it called "Members" and they all vote on different stories which get "Submitted" from ALL OVER THE INTERNET. By voting, or "Digging" a story, these members are sending it higher and higher up the list of stories. So, with enough "Diggs", a story is placed on the "Front Page" which shows all of the stories which have recently received the most "Diggs".
Of course no shovels or farming implements of any nature are used in this digging process as it is all done electronically. Like Donkey Kong isnt a real donkey who exists in real life.
Hope this helped!- SysstemLord, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Aaaaaaaaaaaa

- danwallace, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Buried. Anyone who actually falls for this deserves what's coming to them.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1OK, you're driving down the highway at 70MPH. You hit a sharp object on the road and one of your front tires shreds. You go out of control and hit a tree. However your insurance company won't pay for your damages or hospital stay because you should have checked out the highway before driving on it.
The problem isn't that people fall for this stuff, it's that it happens in the first place. Blame the @$$hole trying the scam, not those that fall for it.- danwallace, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No. If there weren't gullible morons, there wouldn't be people trying to exploit gullible morons. If anything, kudos to these guys for taking advantage of the dumb. I mean honestly, if by this day and age you can't determine this is a fake by the terrible grammar and complete lack of a professional quality about it, then you need to stop using the internet.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1danwallace,
Not everyone is going to have the same tech savvy that most diggers do. While people still do fall for these scams (obviously some do otherwise no one would bother) why are you blaming the victim? If a woman is raped while wearing a provocative dress, does that mean she deserved it? Yes, people should be smarter about these things, but a lot of people (most likely the majority) don't know any better. Put the blame where it belongs, on the criminal that perpetrates it, not on the victim.
