- Takteek, on 11/18/2007, -1/+146Honestly the only difference I noticed is that "Loading..." doesn't have a red background anymore.
- hdar3415, on 11/18/2007, -5/+116At least for me it's a little faster and it hasn't crashed my browser yet. (Firefox)
- AriaStar, on 11/18/2007, -2/+86I didn't even realized I was switched over until just checking and seeing a link in the upper right hand corner saying "Older version"
- stalky14, on 11/18/2007, -9/+83Can't be as bad as the new Yahoo mail!
- twrife, on 11/18/2007, -3/+43Which I actually liked...
- SamboGT, on 11/18/2007, -5/+44Gmail 2 has been working great. Much faster for me. It doesn't hang anymore when performing a task.
- SilentKnight121, on 11/18/2007, -1/+36Once it's main page is loaded, everything within Gmail is much faster for me. The only slow thing is loading the main page, but i'm satisfied.
- ksong12, on 11/18/2007, -4/+34Its worse for me. Main complaint: When I disconnect and reconnect, a.k.a. turning back on from standby after getting back from school, it doesn't like to automatically detect that and start refreshing my mail like the old version did. Also, it frequently says "We're Sorry, but this is taking longer than usual to load" when it in fact isn't loading at all.
Kudos to Google, however, for letting people go to the "Older Version" if they wish.
P.S. Using Firefox. - Drgn547, on 11/18/2007, -1/+24If you're having problems with Gmail crashing in Firefox, try the following:
1.) Disable the Adblock extension if you have it installed. (source: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answe ...
2.) Disable the Firebug extension for "mail.google.com" if you have it installed.
Also, to just speed up Firefox in general, try the suggestions at: http://forevergeek.com/open_source/make_firefox_fa ...
(worked well for me - no more crashing, and runs faster.) - AriaStar, on 11/18/2007, -7/+27Why are you using Yahoo?
- AriaStar, on 11/18/2007, -3/+22Sorry for the multi-posting. I kept getting an error, gave up, came back, and saw they all posted instead.
- benr75, on 11/18/2007, -1/+19Many features that used to work in Safari no longer work. Autofill in the to: field is the biggest. It also constantly spins the loading icon in the tab. I realize the browser is not a preferred one, but things worked great under the old version on Safari.
- djdole, on 11/18/2007, -1/+17Have you tried editing your contacts lately? THAT seems to be VERY different.
(Although it could just be an enhancement that I was oblivious to prior to 2.0 :-\ ) - djdole, on 11/18/2007, -0/+15My company's IT dept is just now progressing people from 2k to XP.
From what I hear, in the industry world, it isn't really that uncommon either - MattL920, on 11/18/2007, -2/+17My company's IT dept is downgrading people from XP to vista.
Zing! - bonavistask8er, on 11/18/2007, -3/+16i'm finding i get a lot of browser crashes... i'm not sure if it's due to the recent firefox update or the updated gmail version. Either way, i'm not liking it and i don't really see much of an 'update'.... but maybe i'm missing it.
- mustang460, on 11/18/2007, -0/+9yea the new yahoo is why i got a gmail acct in the first place
- Mike89, on 11/18/2007, -0/+8This happened to me once - I got my account banned for 'spamming'. Good ol' Digg :)
Ps: I ***** you not - proof: http://mike.lfi.net/diggbanned.png - petard, on 11/18/2007, -0/+8I just did, it didn't crash my firefox?
- AriaStar, on 11/18/2007, -0/+8Maybe you should submit that as a story as proof of why Digg needs to allow comment deletions for a few minutes.
- atomofconsumpti, on 11/18/2007, -1/+9it doesn't crash for me BUT IT'S SUPER-SLOW. like, even if i have it on a background tab, scrolling in other windows is slower than before. what i did was to show only 25 e-mails per page (before i had 100).
- DMXell, on 11/18/2007, -1/+8Works flawlessly for me in Opera 9.5 beta.
- MalDON, on 11/18/2007, -1/+8I don't why you were dugg down, but it;s true. Sometimes when I send out emails Firefox just dies. I've narrowed it down to Gmail. I really don't like the new version with how it shows your email address in the title. It makes my tabs look cluttered.
- digdug2020, on 11/18/2007, -0/+7Turn off adblock? No ***** way! I have no problems with adblock on. I think people with gmail should just stop using gmail if it's crashing their browser! :-D Now there's a solution /end sarcasm/
- generalalcazar, on 11/18/2007, -1/+8This may or may not be related (I use Gmail), but Firefox 2.0.0.9 seems to crash constantly now. I am trying to isolate the situation in which it crashes so I can submit a bug report, but it crashes so often, I don't know what to say other than, "It seems to crash an awful lot." Not much help to the developers I know.
- sandkiller, on 11/18/2007, -1/+8always crashing firefox with me :(
- stalky14, on 11/18/2007, -0/+7I've had both. Just the Yahoo "upgrade" prompted me to go to Google as my primary. Yahoo is now just my spam dump.
- zazzalicious, on 11/18/2007, -1/+8Disable the adblock extension? eek! Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo...........
- abandonedhero, on 11/18/2007, -0/+7Seconded. If Firefox is crashing with Meebo and Gmail, your system must have other issues.
- djdole, on 11/18/2007, -2/+8Hm, interesting. We HAVE all been wondering how you set up your email client.
I guess THAT mystery has been solved. - wiihuck, on 11/18/2007, -2/+8imap > pop3
- gavintlgold, on 11/18/2007, -0/+6The "Quick Contacts" bar doesn't work either, does it? Or maybe I just tried it on an old Safari...
- gadgetuk, on 11/18/2007, -0/+6Sad to say, but in my experience Win2k is the most stable OS Microsoft have come up with so far. XP has caught up somewhat but we still have engineers at my company who refuse to upgrade - I can't blame them either.
Actually, when I first switched to Win2k all those years ago it filled me with hope for the future.... well, so much for that. - gavintlgold, on 11/18/2007, -0/+6It is much faster in Firefox 2.0, and it's even faster in the 3.0 alpha that is in the Ubuntu repos that I've been testing. There was a little bug with the body of the message though...
Speaking of which, the firefox alpha renders Digg stupendously. The comment threads are really smooth opening and closing, and the "News" and "Videos" mouseover graphics don't take a half-second to change like they do in FF 2.0. - expatcatalyst, on 11/18/2007, -0/+6Me too! Google rules.
- inactive, on 11/18/2007, -7/+12its fantastic
- gavintlgold, on 11/18/2007, -0/+5I don't have a problem with Adblock and Gmail. I don't have any problems at all with gmail.
- mehan, on 11/18/2007, -1/+6use IE7 - and no problems. FF isn't quite done yet.
- ElGanyan, on 11/18/2007, -0/+5All is well for me (firefox 2.0.0.9).
- loof, on 11/18/2007, -0/+5I'm getting random crashes in firefox but only after I try to navigate away from gmail. It seems about as quick as before.
- jimbohawkins, on 11/18/2007, -1/+6Same thing here...
- thelab101, on 11/18/2007, -1/+6It keeps crashing safari on my machine.
- chaosium, on 11/18/2007, -0/+5Then you haven't been changed over.
- themarq, on 11/18/2007, -14/+19"but his Firefox 2.0 browser kept crashing both on Windows 2000 and Mac OS X 10.4."
Great googly moogly... Windows 2000? You don't have to be cutting edge but seriously man, an 8 yr old operating system? - mjpatey, on 11/18/2007, -0/+5Gmail v2 definitely runs slower on my system (Firefox 2 running in Ubuntu 7.10 on a P4 3.2 GHz 1.5GB RAM). I've also had it freak out while trying to load the Inbox, wherein it only covers the right half of the browser window, as if some weird window resizing is trying to take place but failing. It's also crashed the browser more than once.
Before reading this article, I'd assumed the problem was unique to me (or my slightly "non-standard" OS). Glad it's a big enough problem that it may get addressed! - affanjam, on 11/18/2007, -1/+6I use Windows 2000 at home and am running Firefox 2.0 and its faster for me. I still haven't bothered to update to XP but will soon to run CS3...not looking forward to it.
- mikesbaker, on 11/18/2007, -2/+6ok comment high jack after that gem
WTF is anyone doing using IE 5 these days anyway?
also if you still you outdated tech just click on older version and go away - jonahan52, on 11/18/2007, -0/+4Works wonderful in Safari 3 for me.
- mhuggins, on 11/18/2007, -0/+4Yahoo's interface takes a million years to load (I had a souped up machine FWIW), hangs the whole browser as a result. As soon as you try to read a message in your inbox, the page disappears and reappears so they can load an ad on the right, and it turns out your message you clicked didn't load. Changing folders and loading messages is time consuming.
I gave the new Yahoo Mail a shot, but in the end I switched back to the old version of its UI. - diversionmary, on 11/18/2007, -1/+5We're mainly a w2k shop with XP laptops. The problem now is getting the corp laptops with XP. I hope my rep can still get them for a long time, the few vista machines I support are horrible. :/
