- DefaultGen, on 02/08/2009, -7/+218I don't understand. What's wrong with Hotmail?

Check it out! - ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -7/+168Most of my friends have Hotmail because they don't realize you can use any e-mail address with Windows Live Messenger, which is basically the AIM of Canada. Most also don't know or care about the benefits of GMail.
- ureshiidesuka, on 02/08/2009, -13/+145gmail hasnt surpassed hotmail yet?
- kaosethema, on 02/08/2009, -7/+138Hotwhat?
ok, ok, i still have my hotmail account but it's just for diverting spam now. - link3333, on 02/08/2009, -3/+112Maybe when it surpasses Hotmail, Google will finally take it out of Beta.
- untitlednet, on 02/08/2009, -0/+92Why, didn't you get that one email that told you to forward it to 10 friends or your inbox will get deleted? Tisk tisk.
- nbouma, on 02/08/2009, -11/+84hotmail sucks
- Duffle, on 02/08/2009, -6/+53My entire Hotmail inbox disappeared, and I have no clue why.
- inactive, on 02/08/2009, -4/+46Why are people digging him down, its true.
- TomTruelle, on 02/08/2009, -0/+41I never got that... Is the whole beta thing a joke at Google?
- erikerikerik, on 02/08/2009, -5/+44well, duh.
Any one remember when hotmail was just a free and VERY SIMPLE email account?
Then after Microsoft it grew into this ugly monster that was spam prone?
Google has it correct, KISS- keep it simple stupid. - inactive, on 02/08/2009, -4/+43I'm STILL waiting to receive an invitation.
- anachronaut, on 02/08/2009, -2/+40Yeah, that happened to me a couple of years ago when I didn't log in for 4 weeks or something like that (I was out of town dealing with my dead parents' estate and checking email was a fairly low priority). Totally wiping the account and address book when I'd been using it regularly for around 10 years?? And the account was using less than 1MB of storage. That was just a huge dick move on their part, and it was the last time I ever used Hotmail. ***** them.
- damack, on 02/08/2009, -2/+39You have to remember the majority of people have no clue about the benefits that Gmail provides and have stuck with their own account.
Gmail is a power users dream. - cyrix, on 02/08/2009, -4/+39I use it for junk email signups. That's pretty much it's only good purpose anymore.
- Chicken2nite, on 02/08/2009, -8/+41That's almost like asking 'People still use MySpace?'
People give out their email address and are expected to check it. People generally don't like to have to change their phone number for the reason of losing contact with people that have their old number. Same deal here except you have the added level of complexity of your MSN contact list for IM chatting as well as the fact that Microsoft hardly makes it easy to switch, let alone automatically forward emails over to your new email account which you more frequently use. - t0ny, on 02/08/2009, -0/+29Why use hotmail for junk? http://10minutemail.com/ :P
- inactive, on 02/08/2009, -1/+29you have to log in once every 30 days or so or you lose all your emails. Gee, thanks Bill Gates! I've lost some pretty important stuff that way.
- 1hrSleep, on 02/08/2009, -0/+26Oh, right... I always forget that MSN is popular in Canada and AIM is popular in the US, apparently. That's so weird. NOBODY in Canada uses AIM. It's either MSN or Yahoo at probably 90 to 10.
- Harbinger67, on 02/08/2009, -3/+28Hotmail really doesn't let you switch easily.
Copy/paste from the Hotmail message forwarding setting page:
"You can forward your mail to one other e-mail address that ends in hotmail.com, msn.com, live.com, or is part of Windows Live Custom Domains."
I'm pretty sure Gmail isn't a 'Windows Live Custom Domain' - brandnewx, on 02/08/2009, -0/+23AIM is not popular outside US. It's Yahoo, MSN and ICQ.
- Princeamor, on 02/08/2009, -0/+22You can sign up your gmail for a live account...
- DrLeePhD, on 02/08/2009, -0/+21back when it was capitalized HoTMaiL.... for H.T.M.L.
- JaysonthePirate, on 02/08/2009, -0/+19The user interface is clean, simple and FAST. And it doesn't have giant banner ads.
- censormagnet, on 02/08/2009, -4/+20it already has
microsoft is apparently still counting all the hotmail accounts us gmail users abandoned years ago - iwaltz, on 02/08/2009, -0/+16or use MSN with Gmail account....
if they know how to - -" - Immune, on 02/08/2009, -17/+33These comments suck.
- inactive, on 02/08/2009, -1/+16yes, it seems you are.
- DrLeePhD, on 02/08/2009, -3/+18IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!!
I haven't used it since this logo.
and when people still used geocities!
http://www.geocities.com/Paris/Arc/1028/hotmail_lo ... - deformation, on 02/08/2009, -3/+18I accidentally the whole inbox.
- mrfreeziexp, on 02/08/2009, -4/+19that last time I used Hotmail it was probably 1999.
- nshady, on 02/08/2009, -0/+15It's case IN point, idiot.
- inactive, on 02/08/2009, -1/+15I once knew a 16 year old girl whose throat was a veritable event horizon.
- MaXiMiUS, on 02/08/2009, -3/+16Just because you can use your gmail for live doesn't mean you have to. I have over 400 contacts on my list and have used the same MSN email for 8+ years, so.. yeah.
- carboncanyon, on 02/08/2009, -2/+15My biggest issue with Hotmail is their crappy, crappy spam filtering. Gmail seems to catch 99% of that garbage, while my Hotmail junk folder has mostly false positives. I dunno why Microsoft can't get it right.
- bdfariello, on 02/08/2009, -0/+13Agreed. My first email account ever was @hotmail.com, and its only current use is when I have to register for a website, and BugMeNot doesn't come through for me.
- Lith25, on 02/08/2009, -2/+14mailinator.com
- ConfusedCartman, on 02/08/2009, -1/+13Damn, I didn't realize it still was in beta. It's stable and feature-packed. You'd think it'd at least be a Release Candidate.
- RSAgent007, on 02/08/2009, -3/+15Um, I hardly think Gmail is KISS.
Gmail is actually way more complex than Hotmail (and maybe that's why people use it more):
- Built-in gChat, which also connects with AIM networks
- Latitude, friend-location tracker
- Email threading view
- Search chat records
- Themes
- Labels
- Gmail labs, which adds even more crazy features, like beer goggles, integration with Gears, Superstars, mouse gestures, etc.
You sure Google is KISS? ;) - bdfariello, on 02/08/2009, -1/+13Why'd you have to go and bring dicks into it?
- AllHereTruth, on 02/08/2009, -4/+14Thanks for the info mate
- IFEice, on 02/08/2009, -1/+11Ohhh, $ = S
I see what you did there. - erikerikerik, on 02/08/2009, -1/+11nuts, I'm well past my edit time.
but you have good points (I was not the one that dug you down)
What good dose very well is its KISS-User Interface. - yeahblah, on 02/08/2009, -2/+12My question exactly.
- inactive, on 02/08/2009, -1/+10I'm guessing a Welshman.
- petska, on 02/08/2009, -8/+17Gmail is to email what broadband is to AOL dial-up ... except Gmail is free.
- Nintendesert, on 02/08/2009, -1/+10That's a lot of cybersex partners.
- cyrix, on 02/08/2009, -1/+10Why? It's basically the same thing mate.
- beejive, on 02/08/2009, -1/+10Not that wierd - Its called AMERICA On Line.
