- socialpyramid, on 11/30/2007, -0/+48The real question will be whether this turns out to be vaporware or actually something. hmmm
- Beatmiser, on 11/30/2007, -8/+55In other news... Duke Nukem Forever to be released tonight at a special foundation dinner...
- apollo168, on 11/30/2007, -4/+41Dugg for use of "Super Material".
- BigManOnCampus, on 11/30/2007, -3/+36I'm betting it becomes something in between vaporware and the Segway. Something that yes, can be used, but isn't as practical as advertised.
- zeromancer, on 11/30/2007, -0/+29I'm pretty sure they're talking about the new generation of solar panels. they cost $0.30/watt to produce. i read an article the other day about it. http://www.popsci.com/popsci/flat/bown/2007/green/ ...
- digger77, on 11/30/2007, -9/+36I'm so happy, I could club a baby seal.
- geomon, on 11/30/2007, -9/+33"Food will probably be pretty good, too."
The menu will be exclusively comprised by rare and endangered species. For $100K/ticket, a group of people whose combined net worth is ~$200B will expect nothing else!
Do you think any of the attendees will walk to the event? - pauldy, on 11/30/2007, -2/+20I thought for sure this would be an onion article from the description.
- cambob76, on 11/30/2007, -5/+22SOILENT GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- inactive, on 11/30/2007, -8/+23flying pigs on a treadmill.
- mach4x0r, on 11/30/2007, -2/+15Yet you took the time to post a comment.
- strictnein, on 11/30/2007, -1/+13How would the pigs use a treadmill if they're flying?
- nightstrm, on 11/30/2007, -20/+32Inaccurate... Al Gore is simply updating them all on his search for ManBearPig.
- Cougaboy, on 11/30/2007, -1/+12that's exactly what he said. The cost of solar panels isn't in the installation, it's in the cost of the panels themselves. If the panels become cheaper, installation and ownership will become cheaper as well.
- BESTenemy, on 11/30/2007, -0/+10Element is going to be lighter and stronger than Aluminum, so they are going to replace Al in the periodic table with the new super element - "Algorium".
- ConceptJunkie, on 11/30/2007, -0/+9I'm sure it will be available in "2 to 5 years" just like every other huge tech breakthrough we hear about.
- sophia137, on 11/30/2007, -0/+8Skepticism is always the best policy, but positive thinking never hurts.
- Error601, on 11/30/2007, -6/+14That reads like a late night infomercial scam.
- Talena, on 11/30/2007, -0/+7Is this being aired? or maybe streamed?
- thcobbs, on 11/30/2007, -2/+9I really hope this is true. Any truly sustainable energy source is a MUST to consider; however, I'm still highly suspicious of this. A "super material" that's "80% cheaper" and will give us guilt free energy?
Anyone else feeling a great disturbance in the force? - Bologner, on 11/30/2007, -2/+9Find a different arguement. It's getting old.
- geomon, on 11/30/2007, -2/+9Damn tough room. I guess the allusion to the current interglacial warming period wasn't clear from the reference to the woolly mammoth.
You guys need to get laid. Soon. - animaetaeris, on 11/30/2007, -2/+9he won the friggen Nobel for a reason, you know
- kineticarl, on 11/30/2007, -2/+9No, they'll walk out to their garage, and sigh in resignation as they climb into the Prius instead of the BMW 7-series parked next to it.
- TypeEE, on 11/30/2007, -1/+8Article that tells me nothing but expensive ticket to see al gore with something unknown that is supposed to be green
- Darkside2984, on 12/01/2007, -2/+81. Invent Problem
2. Swindle world's governments out of trillions.
3. Fix Problem that is imaginary
4. Profit!!! - geomon, on 11/30/2007, -3/+9The cost to the consumer is more important. To replace 50% of the electricity for some homes can cost nearly $60K. There is no way that anyone will recover the cost of installing these systems on their homes in this market or the one that was red hot before the sub-prime collapse.
Solar has to get a lot cheaper to install before people start taking themselves off the grid in a serious way. - uidzero, on 11/30/2007, -0/+6touche salesman
- Mercedes383, on 11/30/2007, -5/+11I would hazard to guess that perhaps he has done more for this planet than you. He's done many times more than I, though I do what I can.
- Talena, on 11/30/2007, -0/+6"And the one that will be shown to Mr Gore and fellow guests is highly marketable and could revolutionise the market in clean technology"
Then why did they use "could", instead of "will"? I'm not getting my hopes up.. - inactive, on 11/30/2007, -8/+14Have they actually proven the earth is not flat? I don't think the science is in yet on that one. Those round-earthers or "globo-fascists" as I like to call them are all on the secular-progressive payroll.
- jgtg32a, on 11/30/2007, -0/+5Investors?
- wiggles, on 11/30/2007, -1/+6Name one.
- catalysis, on 11/30/2007, -6/+11No, it's the "IT"
""IT" can go up to two hundred miles per hour, gets three hundred miles to the gallon, and is an all-around better mode of travel. The only problem is that it is controlled by an uncomfortable method; using four "flexi-grip handles" that somewhat resemble erect penises; two used by the hands, one in the mouth, and a fourth handle which is inserted into the anus. "
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Entity_%28South_P ... - Portwineboy, on 11/30/2007, -3/+8You do know it's "soylent" right? If not, please hand in your Digg user ID and find you way to the door.
- SpaceDreamer, on 12/01/2007, -0/+5you're right,
it actually affects it instead. - squeezer, on 11/30/2007, -0/+5Yeah.. I'll believe it when I see it, unfortunately. :( I wish I could be excited about this.
- austinvideo, on 11/30/2007, -1/+61. Al Gore convinces the world of a climate problem.
2. Al Gore unveils a new "climate-saving" product.
3. Al Gore makes a trillion dollars.
Now we know who he's been working for all this time. - Talena, on 11/30/2007, -1/+6This show the effectiveness of smear campaigns during the elections...
- WasabiBomb, on 11/30/2007, -0/+5That's my theory, as well. We've been seemingly on the cusp of a solar breakthrough, so hopefully this is it. Cheap solar power would revolutionize the world (well, okay, at least the sunny parts- not as useful here in Seattle).
- JKVM, on 11/30/2007, -2/+7Man, he invented the internet and now he's saving the world. Thank God.
- stalman, on 11/30/2007, -0/+5I'm betting on a Segway 2.0
- megaloid, on 11/30/2007, -0/+5That you, Maddox?
- Majorkerina, on 12/01/2007, -0/+4If it turns out to be "The Human Spirit" or something or "The Fabric of Mankind" then I'll be pissed.
- jsmith39, on 12/01/2007, -1/+5Damien Rice huh? Now I feel even better about not getting invited.
- RonObvious, on 12/01/2007, -0/+4Is it Flubber?
- jhnewt, on 11/30/2007, -2/+6Who's getting this $100k per seat?
- geomon, on 11/30/2007, -2/+6"Blame the earth's NATURAL climate cycles for that."
CO2 can cause NATURAL climate cycles too. Ever heard of volcanoes? - init100, on 11/30/2007, -0/+4My guess would rather be "unobtanium". :)
- Talena, on 11/30/2007, -0/+4between ~ 2k$ and 100K$
