- demigod186, on 10/12/2007, -1/+98I grew up in the West African country of Mali, and we had these there. They generally stayed hidden under rocks and logs, and I have never seen one hunting anything. They are very aggressive if disturbed though, and will try to jab you with their front spikes which are filled with venom. They are said among the Africans to have the most painful insect sting second to the large emperor scorpions. As long as you do not touch one, nothing bad will happen, and they will not try and attack you.
We lived in a village in mud huts for 5 months, and we had one of these that lived on the wall above my bed. Freaked me out at first, but it kept the peskier bugs that fell out of the thatched roof away(think earwigs).
If those seem bad, the wall spiders were much worse, and were the size of sand dollars. - Godric, on 10/12/2007, -4/+81Damn, I hate to see that happen to a fellow mammal. ***** insects.
- barbobot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+77You sir are a shakespeare of digg
- justin22290, on 10/12/2007, -11/+76All i said during and after that video was "HOLY *****, HOLY *****. OMFG THAT *****.... HOLY *****!"
- georgep, on 10/12/2007, -4/+62centipedes arent technically insects...o.O....theyre in the same phlyum (arthropoda) but a different class than insects (chilopoda)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41Dear god, if I ever see one of those in the wild, I'll run for a mile never looking back.
- longman2g, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40if I saw one in the wild, i'd run about 10 feet, take out a gun, shoot the ***** out of it, and then start crying.
- crythias, on 10/12/2007, -4/+38'scuse me while I eat my ribeye. You gonna finish that hamburger?
- longman2g, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29I'd love to see the video of you hitting it with a stick and it climb up the stick, wrap around your arm, and bite the hell out of it. People have fear for a reason.
- AoSimon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26The 2nd video of the series is way cooler. There was a chase that went on:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=3APJA0EedSE&search=giant%20centipede%20scolopendra%20gigantea%20robusta%20eating%20mouse - yagoogaly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24Too bad there's no way to report a story for being too ***** creepy!
- fpsjeff, on 10/12/2007, -17/+40Whoever fed the mouse to the centipede is one cruel, sadistic bastard.
- Ratty, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25But to let the centipede starve to death is not cruel? It's nature dude. Just the way it is.
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25lol you're afraid of something that's about 1/50th of your size?
take a goddamn stick and hit it on the head, show it who's boss - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21i don't know, it looks kinda tasty to me
- ronmexico, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24You'll be missed.
- Dano, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Wow, that was disgusting.
- Nowheredan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Note to self: If I ever travel to Peru, never ever go to sleep.
- rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Where do those live so I can never live there myself!!!
- aristotle1990, on 10/12/2007, -10/+23Omitting the "C" in "*****" makes it no less obscene.
- jamesob5, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14note to mickey: don't go sniffing the giant centipede.
- jbond03, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14ill miss ants
- subrobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Quote from William Burroughs: “Now what sort of man or woman or monster would stroke a centipede I have ever seen? ''And here is my good big centipede!'' If such a man exists, I say kill him without more ado. He is a traitor to the human race.”
- inferno320, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13This is REALLY CREEPY. I am dis-insecting my house tomorrow.
- Nicholas482109, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Wow, that is crazy, that centiipede is massive!
- lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I think people don't like centipedes because the "insect" sort of look, that is, hard exoskeleton and skinny and long appendages etc., is so alien and distant away from mammals, which have characteristics similar to humans.
What I mean is, centipedes are ***** nasty. Kill them with fire. - greenbox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10i had no idea:
- centipedes were that huge!!
- that they were strong enough to kill mice
- that that ate mice in the first place (assuming if its in it reach) - znutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I can't help but agree with godric. I'm studying to be a wildlife ecologist and every time I see nature take it's course it just turns my stomach. I just feel that certain mammals are helpless in defense, this mouse clearly was put in a cage to die. It doesn't make it wrong, it just makes it very hard to watch. The mouse had no choice.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9They should have added some background music... "Die MF Die MF DIEEEE!1!"
- Niomi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12The mouse shouldn't have died, because it was cuter than the centipede.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9That not a centipede!, thats a snake with feet!
- sephiroth965, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9One quality an insect has:6 legs not 50 or 100 lol
- Darkshine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8How can you say 10 inches is not big?
- longman2g, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8they cheated, forced the mouse into the centipede's grasp. I would think in nature it would be very rare for a centipede to catch a mouse
- prockcore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8They're all over the place in the desert. One thing I hate about living in Tucson. Giant centipedes, scorpions, black widows, and rattlesnakes. All poisonous.
- mck9235, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Jeez, that's freaky, although I guess if I lived there, I would adapt too.
- aplusplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I don't think that one is going to fit down my shower drain.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Imagine if you crawled into bed with you when you had morning wood.
Be thankful it was the mouse, not you. - kevinski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I wouldn't mess with one of those things, either. I don't think I'd trust my usual method of killing pests. I tend to prefer Clorox spray, but I'd be too afraid to step within 25 feet of one of those things. Ugh…
- dioscaido, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10I stopped the movie as soon as the centipides came into view. Thanks digg for what I'm sure will me months of night terrors.
- rudolphdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I have to see something eat a huge centipede now. Please, I beg somebody to find footage. What the hell eats a centipede anyhow?
- Bobwise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5/shudder
- JCacho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Got removed from Front Page... WHY?!?!??!?!
- bobothn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@ turgor
here here i was thinking the same exact thing. it might be cool but it is one of those things i wold kill if i ever saw it. - ronmexico, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I like things that are way cooler.
- techlinks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5A little part of me just died inside.
:P - Computer_Kid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7do it today! You cant take the chance tonight!
- Godric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Thanks, you learn something everyday.
- nahdan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6my rule of thumb is: if an insect is bigger than my penis, it doesn't deserve to live.
- goettel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5:O
