- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -7/+40Google doesn't care about Opera people.
[/browser-racism] - jrbrewin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20google, i dare thee to take one of your products out of beta.. go on...
you can't do it, can you! - mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Simple to use, but those people testing Firefox 2 will need to use this little workaround:
http://digg.com/software/How_To_Install_Google_Notebook_Extension_In_Firefox_2.0_Alpha - anthonyb415, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18GREAT FIND! Its post like this that remind me why "digg" is so damn cool!
- mxpxpx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14it's live!...... simple yet just so useful
- weiran, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16"Google Notebook is only available for Firefox and Internet Explorer at this time."
No support for us Opera uses, again! - kingfelix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8yeah, someone needs to get on this situation. opera works perfectly for me and is the only way for me to use the web the way i need to on my old laptop.
however, the way it fails to handle google services is consistently frustrating for me. i love opera and i feel like it is light-years ahead of firefox in every manner except extensibility. and this google thing. although it "works" with gmail now, i keep getting weird glitches there, too.
isn't opera supposed to be more standards-compliant than any other browser out there? can some css-ish ajaxy person give me the one-minute rundown of what the deal is here? - jamelt, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15I'm not really excited about this
- ngerber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I see they have already listed the notebook at: http://labs.google.com/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7if you have a google account then you have a account instantly
- Heembo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Cause Ajax code is a complete bitch to support on multiple browsers - especially when you are doing very "high end" Ajax like Google does (pop-up dynamically created graphic-intense forms, etc). We web developers were taught FOR YEARS that heavy use of Javascipt was BAD BAD BAD practice and now those who are Ajax masters are making 100$/hr + hr! :)
- WeThePeople, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Actually I think this will be a very popular feature, I can't tell you how many times I would have loved to have had this while I was at friends or a public computer. So easy to just drag and drop something you want to save right into your notebook. The ability to make notebooks public will open up some cool ideas as well.
I will use this a LOT, I wonder how much storage space we get? whats left over from Gmail? - rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's pretty cool, but I'm having a hard time figuring out when I'm going to use it. The only thing I can think of is gathering information from wikipedia or something.
- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Works for me. And this is one very unimpressive product that, like calendar, should be integrated into Gmail.
- freexe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6IMdB for films that are good, sci-fi, have actor or actresses in.

Well these are just the things I use Opera notes for, I hope this gets released for opera soon as it is really cool to have all this stuff searchable and open to the public - Orbatos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5umm, it, like the calendar, will be?
- umedone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4really cool. thanks again Google. perfect for taking notes for my school work and sharing them with others. I think I can delete Opera now for good.
- tybris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Can't say I'm really impressed by this one. Especially performance is disappointing (heard of cache and synchronize?). So what's the added benefit of the ability to publish your notes...
- zootm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Looks very similar to Flock's "Shelf" feature, but server-side. Very cool.
- nofunnyshtuff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I am trying to decide whether if a company besides Google released this it would still be so big. It is clear that there is some potential here but Google has become really lax about their product integration. I love most of the new releases they have been making but there is a general feeling that they are worrying less and less about making everything work together and smoothly. When Gmail was trickled out it was already a very solid product whereas Gcal doesn't have a todo list. It would seem that email integration with notebook, personalized home integration with Gcal and personalized home with notebook would be obvious. Guess not.
I for one would rather Google go back to the slow release to trusted beta users who can provide Google with feedback so that when the general public does get them, its rock solid. Then again, thats just my opinion, man. - sishgupta, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5opera support is always pretty slow with google. It will come for sure for google calendar. It works 99% in opera 9, and im sure google and opera will work together to make it work.
As for this? opera isnt extensible...so this may be harder. - wyattearp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3holy crap i'm an idiot ... it does take images!
- gadgetuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's all very clever I guess, I'm a clipboard hog so an online distributed version sounds cool. To be honest though, I can't think of something that would make downloading it worth my while. What does everyone forsee using it for?
- Spike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Try "MyStickies" -- It works in Opera and looks like it works the same as this offering.
- aplusplus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Am I the only one who doesn't get excited about these lackluster features from Google? The only application from Google that I've ever even found useful is the search.

"It beats using notepad.exe to take notes."
Doesn't everything? - Dmatias, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3or you could just go to http://www.google.com/notebook/download
- MrsHarris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is really neat... It's gonna save me having loads of stupid little .txt files everywhere.
Though Google will have even more access to my mind - zootm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Interesting. I think they're just getting the basics "sorted" for now in these products, in any case. Bear in mind that as solid as GMail was when it was first released, it had little or no integration with other Google products either.
- mikae1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I just went to google.com/notebook and logged in and registered five hours ago. No hacks needed.
- baltakatei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've already been using it to mark wikipedia pages while I read my assigned reading about Nazi Germany. The Firefox extension is pretty convenient. Just rightclick on the page or some highlighted text and it creates a new entry into your online notebook. It beats using notepad.exe to take notes.
- kruykaze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I found that it conflicts with skype's toolbar (I'm not giving up direct skypeout calls from my browser specially that they are free now )
- CorneliusAgain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's fab, especially with the brower plug-in, but I wish they would sort their act out with integration. I want access to my recent notes from my google homepage. Of course I do. Also the google page creator stuff (pages.google.com) is cool, but why can't I note content then turn it into a page with those nice layout options?
I love google's innovation, but for the sake of my sanity, I hope they start getting just a bit more organized some time. If they applied the some of the same skills to this kind of integration, their offerings would be a lot better. - rctech, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4No Opera Support unfortunately...
I can't seem to return to firefox after seeing how fast and easy opera is. - obey43, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4good for rembering code to copy and paste
- gaberbruno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2One thing that would be very nice would be for it to be possible to save using Ctrl S - I'm typing up some quotations and brief notes which I'll add to occassionally from a number of different computers. My full lecture notes will always be in a word processor for the better features and also because none of our lecture theatres have Wi-Fi in them.
- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It would be much easier if Google were to go ahead and purchase Digg. That would free everyone from the time spent digging around Google looking for new apps.
- theguy10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Maybe they don't need a dupe finder. Yes several of you have mentioned that you saw this posted same day. But that is the great thing about this site, if enough people haven't seen it and they digg it, it can make it to the front page again.
I personally did not see this the first time around and obviously neither did 311 others who also dugg at the time of this post.
And as for Notebook, ehh, not too useful for me but I guess I could use it for research that would need to come from multiple sites. Even then, I probably won't use this one. - EgyPL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I love it, it's going to be a hell of a browsing accelerator. Way better than even del.icio.us and stuff. Gosch, I hate to have to click several times for EVERY page that I found interesting, and after a week I didn't even remember what was the whole point? With this here tiny thingie however... Mhmm...
Love it :) - shade73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is great! All the time I am wishing I could just store some web snippets & some thoughts. (not to mention code when programming). Perfect :) Good job google!
- BubbleBobble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2People should install the browser extension when using Google Notebook. You can add webb snippets and other stuff that way. Makes a lot more sense to use it that way.
- eclipse99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was just thinking about it...
I am also waiting for the integration of the bookmarks with the toolbar. - Flukey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ooooh very nice. i'm going to find this particularly handy for code snippets and notes from wikipedia or forums etc...
Damn you US and Canada with your free Skype calls! :P Us British don't get it for free yet :( it's a conspiracy! lol - Flukey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Because a. This way is more accessible, doesn't mean i need to make sure i have the .txt file with me, i can just go to an internet connected computer and grab the notes.
b. It's easier to add notes from the internet with this method then it is, from opening up notepad, whacking the notes in and then saving the file to a director and then making sure you have some removable storage to access the notes from another computer.
c. i don't think google really cares about it's bandwidth, it'll make more money from this product then it's bandwidht bills totals.
d. Also, you don't need to have the notebook extension. You can add all the notes via the Web interface, the extension just makes it that little bit easier.
Cheers.
Overall, i prefer this way. It's also extremely for notes you get when you're working, and then when you go home, you may want to retrieve them. - seventoes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1...People have forgotten the entire reason of digging something... Digging something was supposed to be like "Hey, im going to digg this so i can see it later," now its just "Ill only digg this if i like the person and i like the page..."
- dextroz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I need a windows application extension so that I can "write" anything to my notebooks from any windows location, application screenshots, directory readouts, from word, Excel, etc... a later step would be to enable access to them from writely... that would really kick ass!
- STokumine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a real shot across-the-bow for http://del.icio.us/ and Yahoo. It lands smack bank in their socially organised information waters with a whole load of extra "useful" functionality to actually get people to make organised bookmark lists without even thinking about doing it (Making a note "qualifies" the link as being bookmark worthy in a way I guess, and they are going 1 step further by making a bookmark of information held *inside* pages).
This is where "publish my notes" and "search notes" comes in perhaps.
They are not exact copies (that's not what google does), rather notes seems to be the next step forwards with the idea. - computerjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1baH! They copied Clipmarks.
- sigterm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Simple, but I probably won't use it.
I just noticed that if you click on the printable version of the terms of use, close the browser, when you come back it acts as if you accepted the term.
I guess everyone is so used to people just clicking through, they don't even check if the person actually accepts. - Skettalee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I installed this at home this morning on Firefox and it worked perfectly.... Now that I am at work and trying it using IE (only browser we can use [US AIR FORCE]) the ***** dont work... it shows a little notebook right next to the go button on the top after the URL box and also shows the same notebook at the bottom right of the window next to the resize slashes... but everytime i click either... it just opens a small small box next to the one on the bottom and shows "Loading...." forever and doesn't do crap...
Maybe its the military blocking stuff or does anyone else have those kind of problems with it on IE? -
