#1: forward all email from accountyouwant@yourdomain.com to youraccount@gmail.com via your webhost cpanel.
#2: under ACCOUNTS in gmail add accountyouwant@yourdomain.com
#3: receive email (right in your gmail inbox) and activate.

I have a gmail addy and an old hotmail addy via live mail beta, and I like the MS version much more, looks similar to the yahoo beta, don't have a yahoo account though to compare.

I can now use the sidebar thing to scroll through all the google features using IE, but not in Firefox.

- kitsonk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would seriously consider doing this too, as long as I can deal with wildcard users in my domain. That is the way I manage most of my spam is by giving out single use, or company specific users that end up in my inbox and then have users that are abused on my dump list, so I never see them.

Ummm... I have been using GMAIL as a SMTP and POP(ssl) server for a long time..
This is pretty well know as a good way to get around restricive ISP's who block outgoing port 25. The gmail servers even support addition ports to get around most any filtering.

The issue with TomPetty's method is, when you do this, most other (gmail doesn't) mail programs will show "Sent on Behalf Of xxx@gmail.com" - which a lot of people don't even know that it is sending out, could cause some problems. - bglav, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Been using a similar feature at live.com for months.

There was a news story on the front page a couple minutes ago titled something like "Looks like Google has hired a graphics designer." And the summary was about how Google might be redesigning some of their sites (Google video?) and how Kevin and someone else can't complain about the lack of design anymore.
Anyway, ITS GONE. I reloaded Diggs front page, intending to click on this story right after, and it dissapeard. Ive done a couple searches for it, and looked further down the front page for it.. but it's GONE.

I think you may be a bit off track.
At an O'Reilly eTech (Emerging Technology) conference last year in San Diego, I happened to end up sitting next to Peter Norvig -- Google's Director of Research http://www.norvig.com/ -- as he typed away on his laptop. I couldn't help but notice he was using an email client called "Caribou" for what appeared to be his work email client. I also noticed it was *very* similar to Gmail, which by then was widely available. Caribou appears to be Google's internal email client, used by all of its Employees. It doesn't surprise me that you would find reference to that name within Gmail's code.
Maybe you're on to something with the "manage this domain" bit, but I think you get off track when concentrating on the Caribou reference. It could even be that the domain management code is used within Google to manage their own internal domains and subdomains, which their various divisions may use with Caribou...

You give yourself to much credit. There are a quarter billion people in the United States. The government has neither the interest nor resources to get everyone and their brother's Gmail/Search History/Whatever ... Let your so-called privacy issue go. -
