- dvsbastard, on 11/09/2009, -5/+46I wonder if Dragon Age has ownership of its own Twitter handle?
***** Dragon Age - DaviDTC, on 11/09/2009, -0/+11Fight for the most squished page.
Final round: Digg vs Adage - MacHarborGuy, on 11/09/2009, -0/+4yeah, a fad, like that "internet" thing, or that "nintendtari" whatzit, or hulahoops
- factsahoy, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3Exactly. Last year we read the same idiotic story about YouTube.
News flash: THEY DON'T GIVE A *****. And neither should you. - supersonicjim, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3If they spent their time registering for every little web site in the world they'd not have enough time to do anything else.
- binaryalchemist, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3Intent is pretty important here. If one takes the name with the intent of impersonating it or advertising competitors, that could be grounds for deregistration.
For example, if I registered "@ExxonMobil" and used it to spruik environmentally sustainable fuel alternatives, I'd probably expect to get kicked off.
That said, I'd also be awesome.
Hm, I wonder if all of these guys have got their twitter names sorted out:
http://www.peri.umass.edu/toxic100_index/ - binaryalchemist, on 11/09/2009, -1/+3Well, I agree that if a person has a valid claim to the twitter name, they should be granted it to use as they see fit.
Sincerely,
Apple J. Republican-McDonalds. - darkphenox, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2So I was right they grab everything related to their name its not that big of deal.
- MacHarborGuy, on 11/09/2009, -1/+3actually, the size of the page is normal. Digg has a CSS file that normally allows the page, when reduced in size, to display the content at this width. As the window is enlarged, the content also gets larger. I think the min and max widths are 900px and 1200px.
- darkphenox, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1Most companies don't really care about twitter its just they try to grab up any names related to them I wouldn't be surprised if Ford owned fordsucks.com and had a digg account name called ford and a variety of names they will never use.
- goldenechos, on 11/09/2009, -1/+2Land, patents, natural resources... in this free market that is capitalism, ownership is granted to whomever gets there "first." Why should the internet be any different? These corporations need to stop crying like babys when they don't get their way; it's the free market in action.
Besides, twitter was supposed to be a social networking site, not an advertising portal. If they want to advertise on twitter, they should own up and pay for the ad space. - howdareyou, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1http://digg.com/odd_stuff/Digg_WTF_6
- MacHarborGuy, on 11/09/2009, -2/+3"ownership is granted to whomever gets there "first.""
And then re-granted to whomever can prove that they have used the name more often and the earliest.
Look, I just registered "your-mothers-pussy.com". Sorry, but I think your mother has more rights to her pussy than me. Actually, you're dad might too. - fiv3isaliv3, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1The company I work for had no problem wrestling control of dozens of accounts from impersonators. It helped though that the accounts were actively being used to impersonate our brands (with an attempt to profit) which violated the Twitter TOS. It only took a few weeks before our legal department managed to work things out with Twitter and get control of all the accounts.
Not sure why large corporations like Walmart and Hyundai are having issues though. - MacHarborGuy, on 11/09/2009, -1/+1you don't seem to understand how many people work at these companies. It takes one or two jerkoffs in IT with a really deep bag of pot to get all of these accounts and domains registered.
- goldenechos, on 11/10/2009, -0/+0Classy response.
I was half kidding, note that the word "first" was and still is, in quotes.
Anyhow, I do, of course, understand your point, and I believe you are correct when you write
"And then re-granted to whomever can prove that they have used the name more often and the earliest."
Nonetheless, I get sick of corporate interests constantly trying to control every facet of life. - dystra, on 11/09/2009, -1/+1because even these companies now Twitter is just a fad.
- Frostek, on 11/09/2009, -1/+1What does the 'J' stand for?
- SSUK, on 11/09/2009, -1/+1http://www.whois.net/whois/fordsucks.com
- Valyn, on 11/09/2009, -1/+1You point is true. But that does not mean we should not bitch about it, so that it wont become a normal thing here.
- andrejhoward, on 11/09/2009, -0/+0Additional generic I hate dragon Age comment.
- philomatic, on 11/09/2009, -8/+7Eatin cereal 4 brkfst w/ 2% milk.. nom nom
- pLuhhmm, on 11/09/2009, -5/+4I dont understand why big companies like this care about twitter accounts... Im willing to bet 99.99999999999999999% of followers are already fans or users... I mean Ford only has 18,000 followers, thats nothing at all, Ive seen more youtube views on a 10 year olds account. Also anything important that could be on twitter would be facebook.
- sentry21, on 11/09/2009, -3/+1It's just an ad get over it. Its not like it's an ad of a crappy game or product.

What is Digg?
