1) your phone uses an open protocol
2) Google Talk is *not* open source, but it is open which means it uses an open documented protocol that allows you to communicate in an open way just like how your phone works
3) your train rides on a standardized railway network; the railway network allows trains from every company making trains compliant with the standard to ride on it. In short, your railway network is *open*, but it is not open source
4) Conclusion: open protocol != open source (both closed source and open source software can support the open protocol, nobody owns an open network, and different vendors and thus competition is possible on the same open network) - ploum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The two complete links are :

I think i don't use my phone for a day (because it is not open source)
And I don't ride the train (who knows what proprietary software they have in their engines)
Oh, and i just farted... I hope everyone will care as much about my fart as the rest of the world cares about your "boycott"
